Honestly it's been in construction for the past 13 months, I've been surprised that the media never made mention of it when in the past they've made a huge deal about Nintendo selling a plot of land to Microsoft.
That's because selling anything to Microsoft clearly meant they were doomed, you see.

It's easy to work in NINTENDO IS DOOOOMED when they're selling their land, not building huge fuck awesome new offices.

WHOA MAN I'm awarding you the gold medal for most helpful response to a genuine question. You provided so much keen insight and education, explaining things to me - I'm just overwhelmed.
Sorry - it seemed like too basic a question, and I was wondering if I'd missed the joke somewhere. So, rather than launch off into an explanation only to have you roll your eyes at me and 'splain the joke, I gave you a chance to clarify whether or not you were being serious.
And to answer your other question, if revenues fall but profits go up, it means that they cut costs faster than they lost revenue - but not necessarily that, without that cost cutting, they would have been unprofitable.
So, if you spend $800M and make $1,000M in year 1, you've got a profit of $200M (20%; this is high, but it's an example).
Then, in Year 2, you don't fund SuperMegaExpensiveFailureGame 3, so your costs drop to $700M and your revenue drops to $950M - you make a profit of $250M. So revenues are down 5%, but your profits are up 25%.
If they hadn't cut their costs, they'd've still made $150M.
So one day Sony is going to realize the PSP needs a price drop right?
Or they will just release a new handheld. The next generation is coming up with handhelds thanks to the 3DS, and I doubt Sony really gives a shit about their ten-year plan with the PSP.
UPDATE: Xbox 360 pack shot seemingly reveals upcoming Microsoft RPG is heading to PC
Microsoft’s Fable 3 will be released for PC as well as Xbox 360 when it goes on sale this December, the official boxart for the game seems to indicate.
The publisher released official pack shots for the game today which carry the ‘Only on Xbox 360 & Windows’ badge.
In comparison Fable 2’s box art featured the words ‘Only on Xbox 360’ when the game went on sale in October 2008.
Microsoft also reportedly advertised a job position for a Fable 3 network programmer earlier this year before removing it once reported. The ad said the responsibilities were “converting and maintaining network code of the Xbox 360 version of this game to the PC.”
In March lead designer Peter Molyneux admitted that he'd love to see his popular RPG series on PC.
MCV has contacted Microsoft for comment.
UPDATE: Microsoft has now killed all links to the boxart, suggesting a PC release is definitely on the cards. Is this the first confirmed E3 spoiler?
So Microsoft hasn't forgotten the PC exists. STOP THE PRESSES!
Honestly, this looks more and more like a public dilemma that Microsoft can't win.
Release on the PC, and bigger response tends to be, "See, why bother owning an Xbox 360? It'll just come out on the PC for $10 less."
Don't release on the PC, and the bigger response tends to be, "Microsoft has forgotten about the PC! Noooooo!"
Granted, that's not a uniform response (thankfully), but it's getting louder and louder.

You'd think they'd at least want to run through their current stock. Especially with the Go... given how Sony overestimated demand in Japan, I'm guessing they've got several warehouses full of the damn thing.

I sure do hope the color coded quadrants in the Nintendo building are these 4 colors in this order
Also dear Christ in heaven what I wouldn't give to shop at Nintendo's employee store
Dedicated servers are the devil for some reason, right?
Codblops is the best unintentional acronym ever.

I'm going to buy a PSP as soon as
1) The last model that supports UMD is out, which may have occured but I'm not sure
2) MSRP of that final model drops below the launch price of the original DS.
However, I'm able to borrow a PSP occasionally, so I may not buy one at all if I go through the games I'm interested in by the time those conditions are met. tick-tock, Sony.

The 360 has achievements and other exclusive games though.
Plus their sales are tapering off anyways, I don't think this will have as much effect.
Sure, you'll get the guy who says that but I really don't think we'll actually see their console sale numbers harmed by it.
I think FF13 dropping off so quickly is due to the secondhand market. The game is very divisive so there's probably a lot of people who are trying to sell it after finding that it's not to their taste.
And I imagine that the only reason why Monster Hunter Tri did as well as it did was because of the Control Bundle. With that gone, I can't imagine it having very good sales legs at all. I mean, it's a game with a huge learning curve that requires a tremendous investment in time - not exactly sales blockbuster material.

Ultimately, SONY realised the PS3 couldn't maintain the $600 price point. So a price drop on the Go could happen. Maybe.

PC games have achievements too. Not all of them, but more and more games use Steam or GFW Live. Fable 3 being released by Microsoft will probably use GFW Live.
I didn't realise how long it had been since Microsoft released a PC game. According to Wikipedia, the only PC releases from Microsoft Game Studios since 2007 are GFW Live versions of Tinker, Osmos and World of Goo.
And I imagine that the only reason why Monster Hunter Tri did as well as it did was because of the Control Bundle. With that gone, I can't imagine it having very good sales legs at all. Yeah, universal appeal is a pretty big factor for stuff like that. I'd unhesitatingly endorse the game to anyone here, but if someone asked me for suggestions on a game to get their kid, it'd be one of the last things I'd suggest, right before No More Heroes.

They can always do what Couscous suggests.
Cous is right, they WILL announce a new handheld at E3; they pretty much have to. That doesn't prevent them from dropping the price of the current model in the meantime to juice sales, though.

Anyway, if the PC nerds are so humongous as to suggest that owning a 360 isn't worthwhile since you might be able to get a game for $10 less on a platform that could cost more for upkeep...
Was I going somewhere with that?
The Agenda simply means finding something to conform to a particular purchase history. It will always be 'damned if you do, damned if you don't'. And almost especially because it's Microsoft.
As for Monster Hunter on the wii, not sure about other stores but amazon.ca has it for 75.99 without the controller which seems like a crazy ass price for a game these days. I'm sure it's cheaper in the States, not sure what price it goes for in Wal Mart and all up here.
I feel like a horrible person for hoping that there never ends up being a FF15.
Your dream will never come true. I think FFXIII has already sold more than the PS2 games in the USA.
buh? Its the worst selling entry in Japan in nearly 20 years.
In the US, 12 is more than double and 10 is triple.
I wonder whether it being on the PS3/360, it being the game after 12, or it being weird on its own hurt it the most. All three aspects certainly contributed to it for me, though 12 was probably the big thing.

Yeah, I think that's also what killed 9, which is the best Final Fantasy game.

I don't think that's a particularly common argument.
As for upkeep, man, I know. This weekend alone I'll have to repack the bearings in my L3 cache and adjust the math co-processor.

Revenue is total income, profit is total income minus total costs.
So then they only made a profit because they cut costs somewhere along the line then, not because they actually had more money flowing in?
WHOA MAN I'm awarding you the gold medal for most helpful response to a genuine question. You provided so much keen insight and education, explaining things to me - I'm just overwhelmed.
If you're in the UK, revenue is also called "turnover," which is confusing because, in the US, that's a workforce-related term.
Sorry - it seemed like too basic a question, and I was wondering if I'd missed the joke somewhere. So, rather than launch off into an explanation only to have you roll your eyes at me and 'splain the joke, I gave you a chance to clarify whether or not you were being serious.

Or, you know, they made more money than they spent.
Yea, I want one, but can't justify it until the end of the year...hopefully a new PSP 3000 will be cheaper by then.

Huh. I figured FFXIII would be somewhere near the bottom of the top 20.
It's not a Nintendo title, unfortunately.
Although Nintendo IS pushing it heavily. With any luck it'll be a slow burn.
Then again not everything Nintendo pushes becomes a long-term success.

Run straight ahead, cut scene, run ahead, cut scene, run ahead, cut scene, run ahead, cut scene. Repeat.
Non stop battles sprinkled between each of those actions is just not very fun.
