Not just that. The female romances are all blonde elven casters (three of them divine). The male romances (I think two more are being added) are all male priest-types (including a monk).
Well considering BG1 had no romances in the base game, I'd say we're just going to have one female elven caster romance, once male human monk romance, and one male half-orc blackguard (read, evil paladin) romance.
I think that is a decent spread.
If we add in the four from BG2 we add two half-elves, a Drow and a human. Okay, yes, they're all divine casters of some sort but whatever.
I wouldn't call Jahiera blond either. In fact, she'd probably quarterstaff you in the face for saying it. Which may or may not be cause for someone to say it, depending on their preferences.

Jaheira's paper doll and avatar aren't blonde, but her portrait in 2 is blonde.
Jaheira: Blonde half-elf druid
Aerie: Blonde elf (winged elf, but no wings so fuck it) cleric/mage
Viconia: Blonde dark elf cleric
New character: Blonde elf wild mage
Anomen: Fighter/Cleric
New guy 1: Blackguard (i.e. anti-paladin)
New guy 2: Monk (i.e. noncasting priest)
Yeah Blackguards and Monks are pretty different from clerics and druids.
But whatever man. Yeah they totally decided that only elves and clerics were interesting romance options and that's why they chose the characters, not for any other reasons at all. Yep.

I'll admit the guys were a bit of a stretch, at least mechanically. I'm curious as to why you're taking it so srs, though. I mean, who'd actually make a big production over "Herp derp this character's too similar"...
Hi folks, in light of the recent PA comic, just thought I'd drop by and have a presence on this forum if anyone has any questions for myself or the rest of the Overhaul Games team.
For our part, I just wanted to extend a general, big "thank you all very much!" for your support for what we're doing. We're aiming to make everything as good as we possibly can.
What is the current status on the iPad version and modding the game? I have no technical knowledge of the iPads system beyond knowing that the file ends in .ipa and that it doesn't have a traditional file system like Windows.
I was kinda surprised that it seemed important enough that someone would want to point it out like it was some major problem with the game, that's all. Sorry if I seemed a bit brusque about it.

Yeah, I was more amused. "Oh, look another blonde elf caster. And two more dudes who spent time in some sort of temple! Great. At least one's an orc. The diversity staggers me." Sort of thing.
Well I suspect the reason why those classes were chosen is because they don't have anyone else of those classes at all in BG1. As for BG2's romance options, I suspect they were chosen more for the characters and their stories and histories than their race and class.

Will it be possible to mod the iPad version?
It's safe to say modding isn't a thing on the iPad version

Was reading a story about how the code on the game is so inelegant and they have to fix it. I think it was on the PA Report, actually...anyway, depending on how much it gets changed, I can see would-be modders having to relearn everything.
Yeah, there were lots of parts of the game that you really wouldn't expect to be hard-coded in, but for some reason were. It was very very non-modular. Though to be fair modding wasn't really something games courted back then.
Plus the infinity engine was always kind of a beloved but moody jalopy with 200,000 miles that required special knowledge of when to kick the starter and when its gearbox needed to be shifted juuust so

@Nathan Willis can you say if there is any kind of sharing of save files across mutliple devices? My plan would be buy the PC version as my main platform and then use my iPad to play when I'm away from home. I work away from home for a week at a time, so being able to carry over my save to my iPad and keep playing would be amazing
You know, I don't think I'm going to bother with the BG1EE right away. If they're definitely doing 2, it might be more satisfying to wait and get them both together.

This has been confirmed, IIRC. It involves copying a save folder over from PC to iPad via iTunes I think. From Mac to iPad it's supposed to be iCloud stuff, and maybe iCloud later for PC to iPad as well.
They've also said you would not have to buy the DLC on the iPad if you have it on the PC, at least as far as using a NPC in your party. Dunno about the extra content like the new quests.
However, I have no knowledge of how mods will work on iPad, if they do.
confused on how you access the black pits though.. they say its stand alone and you can import characters into it? i hope its part of the main game too.

You clearly have not romanced Saerileth! Let me tell you about romancing Saerileth.
Don't.
Sadly she died in the Underdark in the Illithid lair. Alone.
im not 100% sure but i think there is extra dialogue in that opening section, im pretty sure the shadow thieves dont say anything in the regular game. could be my memory failing me. at least i dont recall them asking about their breathen.

I'm thinking of getting the game on my iPad.
So, if I want dlc, I'll have to buy the PC game as well? hm.

No. You can buy the content as in app purchases. PC version comes with all content but higher price tag. I bet in the end costs are the same though.
I'd love it if they fixed Jaheira's dialogue in Irenicus' dungeon in the opening for characters that never met her in BG1. Last time I played BG2, that was pretty jarring. That is to say, if/when BG2EE happens.

When I saw this at PAX, they were showing a playable version, I think they were having some trouble getting contextual cursors and other polish features working, so the delay is probably a good thing,

really dislike how they delayed it for so long 3 days before it was supposed to come out after they had by all accounts been telling people that development had been going great. I'm not mad it's delayed per se, but I'm pretty annoyed at the 11th hour of it.

Granted, as a whole it probably wouldn't be as cool, but then in every "cutscene" there's enough voiceovers to make all of them cool.

and jaheira's hair changes from one game to the next; apparently she's coloring it or something
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
eh.. they left that until the last minute..
oh well, should have time to play it by november anyway.
"You're...a...genius."
Sorry, couldn't resist. :P
it was all your faults
Really bad form to wait this long to reveal the delay, but I suppose the fact that there was no set date was a clue.
Most. Tragic. Game romance. Ever.
