LBJ never ceases to creep me out. This drawing is no exception. There is something very unnerving about that dude, he was fucking sinister. Even more so than Nixon and Nixon was sinister as hell.

Unngggh, i'd always been a bit suspect the LBJ had something to do with the JFK shooting, but kerrist, creepy.

I am not an artist, so I can't speak to the technical aspects of these pieces.

But I did feel the need to post, even though I don't post at all regularly. Just because Pineappleherb's stuff made me go "WOW" in a big bad way.

Just moved into a dorm and this makes me want to start throwing up some more art around the place, and to get off my ass and take some more photos.

    Props, captain.

Could be just harder or softer pencils. Can't recall which does which. Or maybe charcoal.

This is all good stuff. I havn't been too versed in art in a while, so I guess I can't critique much (but I'm hoping to change that!). It's clear you've got quite a nack for shading and drawing the thin details of hair and things like that. But for that airplane drawing, I see that just behind the propellar it looks like you must've blended the shading (or rubbed, I don't remember if it's got a name) in one spot. Dunno if it was intentional or just a scan/photo imperfection, but it looks a tad out of place.

Looks like a fairly soft lead. I'd guess in the range of 2B-6B.

The harder the lead, the lighter the mark, but the deeper its going to gouge the paper. If your too heavy handed with any H pencil, your going to get some undesirable grooves marked on your paper.

Charcoal smears a lot more than any of the stuff pineapples posted it looks like to me.

I was thinking along the lines of oil-pitt based pencils, but that might be stretching it.

it might just be 6B pencils on a lightly toothed paper.

im really not an expert on the different pencil weights, i do have a set but rarely ever think to pick them up
    Godfather wrote: »

my older sketchbook's paper had a computer-paper type of surface, most of the face drawings on the first few pages were from that. my new sketchbook however is much more to my liking :rotate:, its much more sketchy with a little texture

    (medium weight, lightly textured)
    DSC07234.jpg

and as for pencils i enjoy regular bic pencils or whichever, definitely .7mm
But for that airplane drawing, I see that just behind the propellar it looks like you must've blended the shading (or rubbed, I don't remember if it's got a name) in one spot. Dunno if it was intentional or just a scan/photo imperfection, but it looks a tad out of place.
i think i see the spot you're pointing out, on the top propeller to the right? it just got smudged when i was making the smudgy background, it was at the end and i wasnt paying as much attention as i coulda been :P

    thanks again everyone ^__^
i've been sort of busy with some other stuff and haven't had a lot of time to draw lately, but i plan on getting back in to it soon

i drew this a bit bigger than i usually draw, kind of confusing but as long as you sketch lightly at first it gets good form eventually

i tyr to get the edge of the pencil lead smooth at an angle (if that makes sense?), then try to only use that smooth edge if i can help it, and simply rotate the pencil to the sharp point to get the finer lines

you're totally right, gotta draw lightly at first always always always (well mostly always haha). ive always been pretty good at drawing lightly and getting different values if i need to, i hold the pencil pretty close to the point. i like regular pencils too, but i dont like having to sharpen them all the time

    :)
