I took it to mean more like rankings. Way to match people up by skills.
That's a possibility too. But I'm not sure how that would work. You could have someone who plays a ton, but is mediocre, being matched with someone who doesn't play as much but always comes in 1st.

I have no idea what is up with Eurogamer on that review.. the only thing the reviewer complains about is that, essentially, he can get obliterated on the last turn by a 3rd level weapon by the AI if it is fired at point-blank range.
Like.. what? Is that really worth dropping it to a 7?

I can think of the perfect counter-argument to his reasoning there.
They gave Mario Kart Wii an 8.
Mario Kart has Blue Shells. Which don't require firing them at point-blank range.
Eurogamer's argument is invalid.
(They also gave Sega All Stars Racing a 6. It also doesn't have a Blue Shell. I'm still playing the hell out of it.)

There are 3 different Eurogamer reviews and all 3 gave it a 7. I think they're in cahoots, and I think they are all a bunch of silly geese.
And yeah, complaining about getting shot is sort of a stupid thing to complain about. Especially when it sounds like the weapons are all very balanced. I mean, for a person to shoot an entire cluster of rockets like that, it means that they've held onto that same rocket through three packs of pick-ups. That's three attacks that they didn't use in order to get one big blast.
"Air Raid" A spit-fire styled kart and a pilot mod with a helmet and jacket.
Double Edit: Apparently Air Raid is going to be some weird Give Away thing. I mean, they'll probably sell him and his kart later, I'd imagine. This is probably just a way to get him for free early.

Eurogamer reviews have always been on the lower end. It's like they have a permanent stick up their ass about literally everything.
One of the common gripes across the board seems to be load times, and plenty of it. I wonder if the game will come with an install option to help cut back on that, or if it'll just get patched like Bayonetta on PS3.
That's pretty cool that they're doing a kart give-away as a promotional tool. The more people interested in the game the better. I'm still a bit disappointed with how slowly this thread is moving, considering we're inside the 20 day countdown.
I have absolutely no faith in my ability to get one of the limited codes for him, but I'd definitely really like to get him. I could see a lot of potential for both his helmet and his kart.

I guess it depends on how limited they really are. I mean if its as simple as going to a site and registering or something, then it won't be a big deal. You just gotta be paying attention. If its something like a random lottery then yeah, that could suck.

...I look at that kart, and I think "Tails' biplane".
Despite the fact that it's not a biplane.
And the fact that you probably wouldn't be able to give Tails his tails.
And the fact that you couldn't have Sonic stand on the wings.
But other than that, definitely Tails' biplane.

May 10th? It's a bloody Monday. The chances I'll get a copy of that code are almost nil. The only people who aren't working on Mondays are going to be the million or so kids in school. Bleh.
Sounds like May 10th is only one code-drop. They say they are gonna be hitting several community sites. The May 10 drop on Gamespot is just the first.
It looks like this is gonna be their big last-minute marketing blitz to drum up more anticipation. I would expect to see the codes all over the internet by the end of next week.
There's a countdown on the Gamespot site for the Air Raid DLC give-away. Its at approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes until the codes go up, which puts the time at around 12:30 central that we can expect them.
The site will get hammered and go down. In frustration people will keep hammering the site and it will stay down. I'll get frustrated and give up to try again later. Then I'll forget to try again later and it'll be too late.

I think we're coming into the 2nd generation of User Generated Content. The first was the PC Gamer mod boom of the late 90's. Now we're getting into the Console Gamer generation of these games. Little Big Planet/Modnation Racers/3D Dot Heroes, etc. I can't wait for a RPG with DIY built in.
So, the timer ended, I had my roommate ready at home to enter the code for me, and the next thing that appears on Gamespot after the timer is up?

Looks like it happened to everyone. GameSpot goofed it. Or, the only people who got the codes were camping the site for hours beforehand.
Yeah, I think their system must have fucked up or something. If you read the comments on the page, it seems like nobody even saw a button to click or anything. It literally counted down to zero and then was instantly out of codes.
Hmm. Now for the next problem. When I enter it on my PS3, it tells me the code is invalid. I wonder if they won't be activating them until the 25th.

Got it. Man did they royally screw that one up. They really should have put a 'please stand by' placeholder instead of the 'we're out of codes' one. :P
Edit: Who knows. I emailed it to myself to use whenever it works.
Same here. Invalid code. It'll either work by tomorrow or by the time the game is out and installed on your PS3. Either way, the code is e-mailed and I guess it's personalized so they should work once United Front or whoever's in control "activates" them.

Just use them before the 27th or like the Pumpkin, they'll be useless for getting away from the ball after midnight.

Div can be Gabe's kart.

Oh yes. There are whole series of Kart and Racer themes I want to explore. TRON, Penny Arcade characters, 80's Action Movie Stars, etc.
And all sorts of Kart ideas.
From what I understand we'll have to unlock stuff in the main story missions though. *shrugs*
In the IGN review, he mentions that you earn XP from racing competitively online. What exactly does this XP go towards?
My guess would be unlocking items for the Modstation in lieu of playing story mode? Maybe trophies?
That's a possibility too. But I'm not sure how that would work. You could have someone who plays a ton, but is mediocre, being matched with someone who doesn't play as much but always comes in 1st.
On the upside, I've got 19 more days to work on my backlog.

We might be getting additional Weapons via DLC. That'd be a pretty awesome way to expand the game, honestly.
Edit: Aaand, first DLC is already announced.

However, I never really found load times of 30-45 seconds to be that big of a deal, so it doesn't matter to me one way or another.

Ya. No word on a PS3 demo. Sad though.
