So, I want to have some kind of media server. Maybe getting a console and hooking it up with external hard-drives could be the way to go.
You can network an X360 and a Windows 7 system (and Vista, too, I think...) so that the X360 can access all the files on your PC and play them on your TV. I would tell you how it works, but for some reason I've been unable to do it at my house because of some firewall issue or something, I'm not sure. I spent about 2h trying to do it and failed, it was one of the most frustrating things I've encountered (half the online tutorials were for Vista, which was confusing me, and I got about three different recommendations for which ports I needed to open up, etc. and so on). Anyway ... you can do it with an X360 and a PC.
I think PS3 just got a firmware update which prevented the connection of USB hard-drives or something? Not sure.
I think I'll go with the 360+PC setup, because the storage situation would be easier to manage. I want to archive all of my DVDs.
Approximating the solution to a rank-deficient 20,000 row system of linear equations. And getting keeping close to the null space. And doing it in under a second.

Wow I found a copy of Matlab 6 on some random memory card. I have no idea why I have this. Also, I fucking hate Matlab.
YOU TWO WILL BOTH LEARN TO LOVE THE MATLAB.
I have made Matlab my bitch. It's not even slow anymore.
I TA'd a class on Matlab last semester. The class was "C Programming for Engineers."
Two days before the class started, the prof called us in for a meeting. He said "Oh, btw, we're using Matlab instead of C this semester." I've hated it ever since.

Should I get the CE from the Gamestop website or Amazon?
Gamestop if you want to see a beta code some time this century. Amazon if you have any moral code whatsoever.
So... gamestop.
I'm heading out to gamestop right now.

I've got Cubs/Brewers on.
It's like watching lions eat Christians, except the lions have baseball bats, and the Christians just get humiliated a lot, and also the Christians own the stadium.

I have a new soccer blog The Minnow Tank. Reading it psychically kicks Sepp Blatter in the bean bag.
That seems cool, but for some reason the name of the product is driving me crazy. Is that really the best of all the options they came up with? Am I really to believe there was a 2nd and 3rd option that were worse?

We got a Matlab assignment one time that was something like 'calculate the most fuel efficient thrust needed to make the space-ship not crash into earth'. And it took about a month to get it right.
So the next time my space ship is losing orbit I hope that I have at least one month to save myself.

Jeez -- how much data is one DVD? Wouldn't you need acres and acres of HD space?
Well, it's getting cheaper, isn't it? Anyways, I have around 1K+ of them.
assuming that most of them are single layer, you would need like 6-8 terabytes of space
which is only like $500 bucks really for 4x 2TB drives, if you wanted to do that like 4 years ago it would have easily been in the thousands of dollars range

Most films will re-encode to within a gig with no particular loss in quality. That's 900-ish films in a £50 hard disk.
If you want to rip the whole lot with extras then you'd need more space, though.
yeah, if you took the time to do this it would probably average out to 1.5 gigs a movie. Bluray compresses down to around 6-8 gigs i think, if you have any of those

I feel sorry for Wade, waging his one-man war, sometimes.
What's a "beas"?
Or did he misspell "beast"?
His last name is Beasley, soo, ummm ... maybe he just wanted to save money on the tat by leaving a few letters off? Maybe they didn't properly plan for how wide his shoulders are? I don't know!

There's a big difference in quality between the two.
R is so much better at everything Matlab does.
