Huh, Drascin's Euro? Figures. Got him in US.

Anyway, thanks to JamWarrior's masterful lancing (I was pretty useless with the hammer) we managed to duo Lagiacrus Urgent, allowing me the privilege of HR18+! When you need help yourself Jam for your urgent I'll be around :)

On that note, what are people facing Lag with underwater? I tested GS and Hammer, and they're both a bit clunky. It seems the Lance's shield is a must with his frequent torpedo dives and electric spit bombs. Might give LS a shot next.

LS is ok for 4 people if you just charge it up to Yellow and keep it that way for the rest of the fight and just do overheads and pokes I guess.

With the GS and presumably hammer too, it's a matter of darting in as he recovers from one of his attacks, getting in as high a charge attack as you can and darting out of his way before he launches his next one. Same GS strategy as for any other monster, really.

Hey, I'm around as well, just took a break today after playing for more then 30 hours the last 48 hours and I wanted to advance the solo part a bit, farm a bit etc.

Either way I'll be around tomorrow to help people get to two star quests etc, and I'm fairly nice if however not very talented at this game.

But my mentor is Klyka so everything I do wrong, blame him ;)

Really? Does the Good Luck skill matter that much? I've put off making it simply because I have all my skills set up nicely already.

Yeah, the skill disruption is a problem. Having to let go of all the abilities in my Pecco armor to wear it hurts...

I'm wearing Peco and a +6 evasion gem. Right now my armor skills are Defense 10, Evasion 15 (feels like dodging heaven with extra immunity frames), Fate 10, Recovery Level 10 (mega pots for nearly 60% with the last cat health buff). That's Jaggi lid and the rest peco armor with gems to cover the 2-3 points lost in each. I've been having a "last available offline" weapon field day with all the rare drops that come in from Jaggi head.

Yeah, Triangle Circle Triangle repeat works well for groups. You lose some damage, but everyone gets their licks in. The Spirit combo is good for tail cutting, when you are pretty much out of the way of other folks, and when no one else is around (which happens more often than you may think, especially in the Uragaan, Agnaktor, and Barioth fights).

The thing is, Longsword doesn't trip up people more than other weapons. Lances are notorious for knocking people down (CHAAAAAARGE!), the Hammer Superpound pretty much means that everyone else doesn't get close, Switch Axe doesn't have attacks that are safe for anyone, Greatswords launch AND knock down with everything but the charged strike, etc. Even Sword and Shield knocks down with a few of its strikes (I've been combo'ed more times than I can count by SnS, and that's wielding a Hammer or a Longsword attacking at the same time).

The shield portion of the lance blocks all of these strikes, I believe. Just block your teammates as much as you are blocking the monster. I typically don't do upstrikes x3 or stab x3 combos unless no one is around anyway. I use counter charges and pokes up close when fighting with others.

Fear not! I got my wii back from my bro's. He's fixed the drive which means more hunting of monsters! Well... Would be if he remembered to bring my games too. Not annoyed though, I got a free repair out of it and i had no down time thanks to his generosity. Hopefully he'll drop off the games tomorrow. It does mean starting over though so you guys'll forgive me for being a noob all over again.
Also, I killed the q-bird finally! Got the pitfall trap to work on it too. I can look forward to doing it all over again later this coming week.

In Unite, we had a three man Diablos fight where all three of us were using hammers. It was dart in, Super pound, wait for the other two to Super Pound in a row, then dart in and Super Pound. Diablos kept staggering and didn't get a chance to charge. *grin*

I don't remember if you are immune to the GS upswing either. That's my favorite multiplayer attack.

The light wind resistance the GS gives you while swinging or charging is very useful too.

Hmmm. Monster Hunter Freedom 2 should've taught me this by now. Don't use a Longsword against Rathalos. It's more pain than it's worth.

Long Sword is one of my preferred weapons against Rathalos in Unite and Tri. Lance does well against him, though. In Freedom 2, you could Flash Bomb Rathalos and kill him with just upstrike and backhops. They removed that stagger/kill combination in Unite, not that anyone could do that against High Rank/G-lvl mobs.

With the longsword, focus on standing at the back of his legs, in between his legs close to him during tail sweeps, and stab until he topples. In the air, you can overhead strike to hit his legs and tail. Standing in front of him at any angle is a bad proposition. If you are standing behind his legs, you can't be hit by the jump bazooka (he leaps in the air and fireballs the ground at the same time).

    Rathalos set and Thunderclap+.

Intend to use my Lagi set with Capture Guru and Trap Master for most hunts. Will jump into Rath for killing old content most likely. I feel like I am fast approaching the stage where I will have obtained all the useful stuff from SP and thus require + stuff from high rank online.

Honestly, I actually LS him now. In Unite, he was perfect Lance bait (he and Rathian were also totally harmless), but in Tri, with his newfound maneuverability, Lancing him is really, really frustrating to me. It's like the ground is a foreign concept to the bastard now.

I noticed he barely touches the ground nowadays. That's definitely going to frustrate me for sure. I have a feeling I should just Swordanshield the guy to death. Good thing I have a water-based one handy.

Oh, it has its uses. Shaving the whole side of a Lagiacrus and getting thirty hits in in a matter of seconds, for example ;). It just takes knowing when to use it and when to not use it. It's also good for closing in without having to sheath.

The Lance charge is the one reason I use a Lance over Gunlance in Unite. You can easily and quickly close the distance without sheathing. It saves some precious time, which allows you to get more hits. It's fairly easy to aim, so you shouldn't be hitting people (unless you don't care *grin*).

You'll never get to see Alatreon, Deviljho, or Jhen Moran, but that's about it. Honestly, the bulk of the game is multiplayer, but you can get a lot of playtime out of the single player (50 or so hours).

The real answer is: Get online and play with us!

You require additional sharpness. You need at least green to not bounce off basic skin when charging, more for harder areas.
