Still wondering about what to do about Gunning. Right now I have a bowgun made of Jaggi frame (because Rapidfire Piercing Lvl 2 was godly in Unite, and I figure it will be here as well), Pecco Stock (for the Sleep rounds, mostly), and that one barrel you get from the Captain's secret tome - but I honestly don't know what to do. Nor what armor to use - right now I have the three pieces of Bnahabra gunner armor. Suggestions, please? (please, suggestions that don't involve farming Gigginox. Yes, I know his armor is amazing. But the thing is my nemesis).
Any idea what Weapon Codex makes? Should I try to farm it or is it gonna be useless unless I have access to high level ingredients? (I use mainly Lance, with a bit of hammer and LS)

Bah. I spent most of a capture session trying to crack Lag's electrical thingies with my long sword to no avail. I'm going to go with the lance next time. I need to get one of those and bust his horns open, then I can get at the chest and head pieces for his set. Forget what the Skirt requires. Probably more electrical parts.
Had done a couple of random hunts online and went looking for more when it broke up. I entered a city, 3/4, all HR 24-27. I looked up what quest they were doing and they were in an [Advanced] quest with a 4th person, even though I was the 4th person in their city.
As soon as the quest ends they all just up and leave the city.
That sounds weird. Maybe some connection thing though.
I'll be hopping into Vent now and do some offline (maybe online) playing.
Someone tell me if they want to go hunting together.
I'l be home at 9 GMT again tonight. Would be great to attempt to clear our key 3* quests and unlock the urgent. We have done hunt Rath, Giggi and Diablos so would just need to capture Bari and Ura.
4* quests are where the do old content, get better items quests begin.

Save it as a set and you can just mess out about with other stuff. If it doesn't work out, just select the set from the manage equipment menu and you're good to go.

Okay, so I did give that bowgun set I mentioned a try. Good thing: Bowgun makes Gigginox really easy to beat. Bad thing: Bowgun makes it freakimpossible to break its thorax, which means HAW HAW NO MAW FOR YOU.
Anyone know a good way to break the damn thing? I try to bomb it, but it keeps spitting venom at the bombs and blowing them up as I set them. Sleeping it to plant bombs results in a Giggi waking it up always. I'm fresh out of ideas.

Those gems are set into that armor. Once you uneqiup the armor, the gems are still in it. You can't use them for another piece of armor unless you remove them via the forge.
Can you purchase previously crafted weapons or do you need to recraft them (since doing an upgrade replaces the sword)... if it's the latter I'm in for a long trek for the swords I'm curious about.

I've barely been playing offline. I've done just enough to get Cha-Cha and then really didn't do much past that.
Online though I've spent a lot of time helping people rep up, got my jaggi hat, and have generally had a lot of great hunts. It's just seems more fun when you're getting thrown across the room by another player or being blown up by a bomb.

Given how much of an utter bitch Diablos is in Tri, good luck with that. According to my observations, modern science still hasn't created a vehicle able to go from zero to sixty as fast as underground Diablos.
Would anyone be up to knock out most of the 2* key quests? I actually had a bit of mania set in this weekend and cranked out all of single player, plus full Gigginox armor and max offline tier of almost every weapon. Way too much single, so my HR is still like 13 and most 2* key quests not done. Have a private vent and usb keyboard, etc.
Also willing to help smoke Barroths if someone needs him to start the 2*'s.
Status Attack Up with Assault Axe+ paralysis phial has made for some pretty hilarious 100-0 kills, as well as the gobul lance+. Messed around with the max offline poison S&S as well, does a pretty amazing number on Barroth and Uragaan.
Mblackwell, as your rank increases, the lower-end upgraded weapons start to be available for straight-forging and purchase after that. Still takes some materials but you don't have to do the whole upgrade path.
Drascin, I break it with a lance every time, but that's because the up-thrust is constantly hitting his chest. I have a little more trouble breaking his face before he dies with the lance, but the reverse is true with a hammer. I upgraded my Peco Flint to Red Bludgeon and got a 3:22 kill on Gigginox, was pretty sick but doesn't help with farming anymore, haha. Still trying to find that perfect maw-farming weapon. Gigginox has a 40 second sleep period, which probably means a giggi, baggi, or bhana is smacking him to wake him up. Even though they aren't associated, the AI makes them smack sleeping monsters for wake-up, like Cha-Cha tries to wake you up. It's probably only safe to do the barrel strat if it's a rare occasion where he goes to one of the outside rooms. Once you get enough of his gear to negate poison he's a total push-over, I was literally just using the charging shield attack with lance to break his face and standing in poison clouds. Part of the issue is that you don't have a quest to actually break his face so it doesn't increase the chance of it dropping in the post-fight wind-up. I've had more luck with maw on capture than kill, but that's probably just superstition. Have three, still working on my fourth and final.
Preacher, what are you using for Rathalos? I have the best results with lance/switchaxe/hammer, LS seemed to not have a great answer to his bait/fireball rocket jump shenanigans. Lance/switchaxe has been great for hitting him 3-4 times and making him fall out of the sky. He'll miss that poison attack if you sheath and start doing sprint-laps around him, but you can tell it's coming because he goes to an unreachable height that tells you it's either poison-sting or triple fireball.

This is why you bring sonic bombs!
In Unite, Sonic Bombs when he went underground would 'cause him to pop back up in agony, allowing you to bomb/combo him several times per sonic bomb. If you have 4 people, each with the max 10 sonic bombs, Diablos going underground should be seen as an opportunity, not a PITA.
Also, as I haven't fought Diablos in Tri yet, are there any spots where you can get his horns stuck in the wall?
Wall+Sonic Bombs+normal complement of traps and flash bombs and such, SHOULD mean, in theory, that Diablos should barely have time to move around.
I'm definitely down to help you with your Lag urgent and then on to farming whatever else comes out way.
I finally managed to successfully carve Gobul's whiskers while he slept. Think I got of two or three carves before he woke up and I actually got a couple whiskers from it (was having bad luck all night with it). I still haven't been able to get rathian plate however. Seems like the reward amounts are pretty low offline and we weren't able to take her last night. All I need from her is the plate and 2 wyvern claws for the set.
I have enough to make a full Lagi set, but I'm not sure I want to make it or not (besides out of principle).
When exactly do you use Flash bombs and Sonic bombs? I've seen people use them to stun things, but I have no idea what moves they are supposed to counter.
When you see the QBird calling for help throw a sonic bomb. It negates his call. I never use them though, I just smash his throat with my GS... though sometimes I miss/can't get in a good charge. And then I just... uh... dung bomb?

Now he's speedier and goes for the jugular. Sonic bombs still help - if you manage to sheathe your weapon and throw the bomb before it rams you. The only mercy is that with the fixed hitboxes you can actually roll under the tailslams now.
If you sonic bomb the ground while Diablos is under it, he will pop up like he's in a pit trap and you can pound him. Not during the dig, but fully submerged.
Edit to above: To add to that, his normal underground rush is tolerable, it's the rage one that is almost unavoidable. I switch to my evasion +2 set for him, so I can enjoy those nice frames to gtfo. Used the assault axe+ for him, went pretty smoothly. Didn't get a horn though.
Upstab has broken it every time for me, I get lodged between head and wing to crank them out. Slow rise is a poison belly-flop. If you have high health and plenty of antidotes just keep wailing and eat it, you aren't going to get out of the way unless you started when he started slowly standing. Other belly flop (without poison that throws you through guard) is counterable, so just counter and keep on stabbin. His chest usually breaks in the first couple minutes, then I get to run around trying to bust his face (which is annoying with a lance). I couldn't figure out how to reach it with a hammer. I could flip him over and do pounds, but I don't think they were doing chest-damage, just didn't reach far enough. It's likely that not only is the drop rate better online, but you will simply have the weapons necessary to shatter all of his parts in a timely manner.

That's why you have to predict. Sheathe as soon as you see him start digging, and throw the bomb before he's completely submerged. Time it right, and the bomb should go off just as his tail dips underground, 'causing him to pop up almost immediately after he submerges.
I'll take him on tonight and see how bad it is now for myself.

He was hard, probably one of the harder monsters (never quite got why people considered stuff like Rajang harder than Diablos) - but he's actually been buffed in Tri. Now he's speedier and goes for the jugular. Sonic bombs still help - if you manage to sheathe your weapon and throw the bomb before it rams you. The only mercy is that with the fixed hitboxes you can actually roll under the tailslams now.
Edit to above: To add to that, his normal underground rush is tolerable, it's the rage one that is almost unavoidable. I switch to my evasion +2 set for him, so I can enjoy those nice frames to gtfo. Used the assault axe+ for him, went pretty smoothly. Didn't get a horn though.
Upstab has broken it every time for me, I get lodged between head and wing to crank them out. Slow rise is a poison belly-flop. If you have high health and plenty of antidotes just keep wailing and eat it, you aren't going to get out of the way unless you started when he started slowly standing. Other belly flop (without poison that throws you through guard) is counterable, so just counter and keep on stabbin. His chest usually breaks in the first couple minutes, then I get to run around trying to bust his face (which is annoying with a lance). I couldn't figure out how to reach it with a hammer. I could flip him over and do pounds, but I don't think they were doing chest-damage, just didn't reach far enough. It's likely that not only is the drop rate better online, but you will simply have the weapons necessary to shatter all of his parts in a timely manner.
That's why you have to predict. Sheathe as soon as you see him start digging, and throw the bomb before he's completely submerged. Time it right, and the bomb should go off just as his tail dips underground, 'causing him to pop up almost immediately after he submerges.
I'll take him on tonight and see how bad it is now for myself.
When not hunting Los I want to be hunting Barioth. So many parts, so many weapons to upgrade.
I need parts from him for two Lances and a Long Sword.
