If CS2 came out now it would just be another Modern Warfare, better to let that whole business die down before making a grand return to reclaim the throne.
No, for new people it would be a modern warfare you have to play for weeks before getting your first kill and are forced to sit out of playtime for a couple minutes every round.
Or was I the only one to get into CS after it had been well established?

I actually like the "once you die, you wait a few minutes" mechanic. In every other shooter, dying feels so completely trivial. In CS, when you got 21 health left and you hear footsteps coming your way, it can be a pretty intense moment. In any other shooter it's just "I'll duck behind this rock, regen a bit, and then go all rambo because even if I die I'll just respawn in couple of seconds".
Ah do I really want COJ2 because I think it will be good or because I hear about all the fun people are having with RDR and lament the fact that there aren't any really good Western games on the PC? I guess for $10 there would be enough enjoyment to be found in it. Sti rather have it on Steam though.
COJ2 is just really, really solid. There's no insane difficulty spikes, and it's paced well enough that you'll stop playing due to physical fatigue rather than boredom. Personally I think the story made it all hang together rather nicely, and you always feel like you're working towards a particular goal rather than just playing a game for the sake of it. It also doesn't overstay its welcome, and you can play through it again as a different brother for some slightly different sequences and a much-changed playstyle.
The main critiscism levied at it was simply that it ditched much of the strangeness and uniqueness of COJ1. There's nothing in it even approaching the bit where you have to hunt wild hares over what seems like 5 square kilometers, followed by a negotiating your way up an eagle-infested mountain. For better or worse, it shares an awful lot of its playstyle with the Modern Warfare games.
I remember hearing somewhere that Steam's version of Beyond Good and Evil is terrible for some reason. True or false, anyone know?
I played it a year or so ago and had no issues what so ever with the Steam version. Granted that was on XP so not sure how it works on 7 if you have it or even if it's an issue. It's a pretty great and fun game and I really enjoyed it.

Yeah, the PC version is pretty bad. Only supports 4:3 resolutions, but the image is letterboxed at all times. Despite being a port of a console game it has no controller support. I don't know if it's a common problem, but last time I tried playing it I got various graphical glitches and on my previous computer the image and sound went out of sync during cutscenes.
A quick question: I have the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R on Steam, would this allow me to use the loyalty edition of
Call of Pripyat that's on sale at Impulse right now or do I need both games to be on the same platform?

Most likely they need to be on the same platform. Steam has a "STALKER Loyalty Check" and a "STALKER Ownership Check" in the tools section.
I imagine that Impulse uses some method of their own to the same effect.
I think the letterboxing thing didn't bother me at the time since I had just finished playing AC1 at the time so I was used to it. Even still it was worth dealing with it to me to play the game. I didn't have any crazy gamebreaking graphical glitches on my playthrough that I remeber but that may have just been my good luck. I did get a little annoyed at the voice synching issue but again it was a small issue given how good the game is. The only time I really wished for a controller was during some of the boat sections but overall KB&M was good enough for the platforming sections.
Those issues are not related to the Steam version though so take it for what's it's worth. To me it was.

It was glitchy as heck for me under Vista. Lots of missing polygons and texture glitches. There are fixes posted in the Steam forum for the game that mostly fixed them, but if I were buying it again I'd probably get it from GoG.
I don't KNOW that the GoG version is actually better, but they managed to make Riven work on modern OSes and are thus basically gods among men.

If you have played other ports from consoles on PC with KB/M, it probably won't bother you. It's not like the original game ran widescreen either. The developers decided that you should get letterboxing no matter what aspect ratio you ran it at!
No, but seriously, it's still perfectly playable. I can't remember any sections (unlike Sands of Time) where it was almost unplayable without a gamepad.
I'm waiting for Impulse to realise that they'd get a lot more sales if they just allowed their games to be downloaded on Steam.
I mean, I know it's crazy, but even though I used to buy games on disc (Remember that, guys?), and they were all in separate cases, buying games outside of Steam these days just feels wrong to me. Too messy.

Yeah I only own Stardocks own games on Impulse. Galciv 1-2, Demigods, Sins and Elemental.
So Valve explains why they made Steam install games to the mac documents folder, and talks about how they're going to change it.

Mac Steam content in the Documents folder? Not for long.
Steam Blog - Valve
Since we launched Steam for the Mac a little over a week ago, one of the biggest complaints we have gotten is that we put game content into a "Steam Content" subfolder in the Documents folder. This interferes with how many of our users backup their files, who want to be able to back up their entire Documents folder with Time Machine, Dropbox, or some other software, but who do not want to back up all of their game content. Additionally, many users simply don't like seeing files they don't directly interact with in such a visible location.
So we thought we'd take a moment to tell you why we decided on the Documents folder in the first place, and what we plan to do about it.
Our original inclination was to put game content under "~/Library/Application Support/Steam", along with the other support files Steam uses. The problem is that uninstalling an application is meant to be as simple as dragging it from the Applications folder into the Trash. However, uninstalling Steam this way will leave all of your game content on the drive, which could easily be quite a few gigabytes of wasted space. Our solution was to put the content in a very visible and often used location so users could easily find and delete the game data if they didn't want it anymore. That's right, we chose the Documents folder specifically because it was visible and often used -- the very reasons users don't want it there.
We've taken your emails and forum posts to heart, and we've come up with a different solution for users who uninstall Steam. We are working adding a feature to Steam to detect when you drag it to the Trash, and ask you if you want to delete your game content files as well. This will allow us to put your game content in an non-intrusive location. In an ideal world we would let you choose where the game content files are located, and in the long term that is a goal of ours, but due to architectural issues with our engine this is not as trivial as it may sound.
As soon as the feature to help users uninstall Steam completely when they drag it to the Trash is complete, we will be moving the game content folder into "~/Library/Application Support/Steam".

Fat chance of that happening. They won't even sell games that are Steam exclusives. Such as modern warfare 2, or N:TW. Anything with Steamworks you will not find on Impulse.

I wish LucasArts would throw Outlaws up on Steam.

I... don't really see how any of that is Stardock's fault. I mean, that's not what was stated, but it certainly seems to be implied. Why the hell would Valve integrate a competing service into their UI?

Regardless, it doesn't mean they can't sell it. But hey, if they don't want a piece of the MW2 pie, good for them.

Outlaws was fantastic.
Though it was hilarious that it was using a Doom-era engine in the heydey of Quake 2.

I suspect it would be consider a bad business move to offer for sale a product which requires you to install your main competitors application.
And yet Valve doesn't see any problem with selling games that require Games For Windows Live integration for multiplayer, even though GFW sells games on its store and also has a directly competing community feature set.
This is because Valve is not stupid. They realize that when you want to buy Arkham Asylum or Street Fighter 4, if you don't buy it on Steam you'll give your money to somebody else. Also, they are confident enough in the quality of their service that they aren't scared you'll jump ship the moment you see somebody else's program attached to a game.
In other words, they're not little bitches like Stardock.
I have a favor to ask, my paypal isn't working with Steam and I am not sure why but would someone be willing to gift me Football Manager 2010 and I would paypal you the money back.
