Man, it's refreshing how simple and easy the fishing in here is compared to other annoying fishing minigames (Persona 4 for example). I'm finding doing the fishing quests while listening to music kinda... relaxing.

The thing that makes the fishing hard is that personally I like having the camera directly behind me. That way I'm sure if it's pulling to the left or right. The problem though is that the rod is so thin that when the camera is straight behind you it practically disappears. It just becomes very thing rectangles that somehow manage to also have jaggies.

Fishing has been a piece o' cake for the first three Fisherman's Gambit quests so far.
I really enjoyed NIER a lot, great characters, setting, music, story, but the game's main weakness is content recycling. Its like they tried to stretch a 12 hour RPG out into 30+ hours. The game tries to do too much and ultimately falls short.
I'm a big fan of Cavia and was super sad to hear they shut down. Hopefully their team members will get absorbed into other teams and produce something good again someday.

I honestly never had any real issue with the fishing in Neir, probably because I did fishing in FFXI which was very similar.
If you're bitching about 8 being difficult, it gets worse btw.

not really
if you know the bait and you know the spot, it tops out around part 8
also if you play FFXI you're probably immune to tedium anyway so

Well yes, I was just trying to put it into perspective for Rent. But yeah, my perspective is a bit jaded.

ugh so I just finished up all the endings to drakenguard, ending E is the most insane bullshit I've ever seen
still seeing no way any of the endings could feasibly be the prologue to Nier

Look closely at the state of the world during ending e.

You can sort of put it together, and by that I mean whatever you're thinking is probably completely wrong, but they purposefully left out a bunch of stuff connecting the two games because they felt it wasn't important. They just wanted to focus on Nier and the others and not so much the backstory. The connection to Drakengard becomes clear when you finish the game and start reading Grimoire Nier. If you also talk to people and do their quests you'll see a few connections here and there.
Hey guys, starting Sunday K-mart is price dropping Nier to $20. So anyone undecided should go buy it sometime starting Sunday. It's going to be $20 for the foreseeable future.

And I just spent $35 on it yesterday. But ah well.
Okay, but is there anything specific I need to do, like focus on a certain type of enemy, or should I just go in and kill things until what I want drops?

I am very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

titanium alloy is dropped by the red-light robots
rusty kitchen knives are dropped by the tiny sword-wielding shades
complex machines are dropped by the gigantic shade on the path to seafront
all three parts are ridiculously fucking rare, so don't give yourself a stroke trying to collect them
especially titanium alloy, because it's part of a cruel joke by the developers in that it becomes vastly more common after a certain point in the game, but then your weapons no longer need it
I think you still have Temple of Drifting Sands to hear, and that's one that a lot of people consider the best. It's really personal preference though, as I love The Incomplete Stone and that's the tower's music. That's not really a song that people love as much as the others though.

The village music is beautiful.
"Pull your head out of your goddamn ass and PRESS START TO BEGIN PLAYING."
I didn't mean the cursologue, which is fucking awesome
I mean the "let's fight one gajillion enemies at you with no rest whatsoever, oh then after let's have a million lame shitty sidequests open up"
it's almost cruel how there are some real gems mixed in with all the busywork quests
the Lighthouse Woman series in particular
you heard it here first, folks
You need to help me beat that.

There are links in this very thread, hidden, waiting.
but giving you the specifics would also be big spoilers about nier's world, at least until you've gotten the A ending
but you know
I'm 0k with that

Also, I'm at the junk heap, and although I hear I'll have reason to HATE this place later,
the music is phenomenal.
I thought it was going to be generic industrial, and then the voice kicks in.
I don't think the game is bad at all. I have fun playing it, though I wish there was a lockon feature for enemies. The music is just mind-blowing.
Edit- After you finish the game, check out the interview with the singer. It's a great read.
Edit 2 - Also give a listen to Ashes of Dreams (the only song that's not in future-speak). The lyrics are spoilerific, but flesh out the backstory.

I'm excited.
the Grimoire Noir entries were a slap in the face the first time i saw them, since they look so oppressive thanks to Yonah's letters
it didn't help that i had the game installed, so i was only able to catch a few words before the load screen faded out
It says your exact location with spoiler tags or something?
