[NIER] - The words tell you to purchase Frankenstein's game.
Posts
You see why I was so happy when I got the White Moonflower? Without setting the clock ahead? Just purely waiting real time.
Its too bad uhh...Caim was his name? Dies in the 5th ending (I believe) because itd be sweet if they just had him pop up randomly at some point but just kinda leave and you're like...what the hell....
Yeah. Id still like to have seen him randomly and he just says "... .. ..... ...?" and then disappears when you leave the area. Course hes dead so.....but fuck that. Games crazy as it is. Death means nothing!
Caim would've probably died fighting once the whole Shade thing started happening.
Motherfucker loves fighting.
PS Everyone who enjoys the story should go to the official site (www.niergame.com) and download/read the comics. The art is pretty offensively bad (remember when Kaine had huge silicone injection lips? Me neither) but they tell a fairly interesting story about the events in the 21st century that explain why Nier is important.
I just meant it as a funny little easter egg that people could laugh at. Doesnt have to make sense. Although a Caim DLC costume would be pretty sweet.
Edit: The obnoxious gathering is SOLELY for the trophy/achievement for upgrading every single weapon to maximum, which is by far the hardest of all of them, and thus the main barrier to getting either the Platinum trophy or 1000/1000 GS.
You aren't really required to do any of it. If you're not aiming to perfect the game, there isn't anything that approaches grinding or farming.
So don't let it dissuade you! Buy away!
This man is right. Buy this game now. They must make more games! (or DLC........) but in either case I want more.
The quests are definitely not required although they will increase your playtime if that worries you. Just do the ones you think are easy enough and skip what you think will be annoying. There are quite a lot of quests so..
Onwards to C and D! Is the final choice after the point of no return or before it? I need to make my backup save before it as well as transfer it to a flash drive before I get D.
After. Only ending D will delete it though.
The Father grows on you as ugly as he is. He's actually a great character for the most part but sort of winds up being a mindless brute in the longrun for some reason. Like he starts out seemingly smart and knowing but they turn him stupid as the game goes on it feels like...I dont know...But! I like him.
Also the naming thing is good actually. It adds a layer of personalization to yourself when playing as you go through during certain scenes/talking and stuff. You'll see.
I was going to wait until 30 but, I think I'll grab it now. I kinda wonder why they didn't just start Nier out at a budget price.
Pretty close to beating it the first time, playing with my husband. He's ... he has opinions about the writers of this game.

If you don't feel like playing through it again a third time though I say you can stop after getting Ending B. The second run adds a lot of extra dialogue and scenes, and it has my favorite ending. C and D really aren't anything special.

Review with extreme prejudice touches on nier. It's pretty funny. I like it, anyway.
I had a quick question, are there any known issues with the PS3 version or 360 version? I prefer the PS3 controller but, I've been burned on a couple titles.
The reason we had bosses named after fairytales was that originally the plot for the game was about worlds in storybooks being real and looping over and over, unable to change, and then a scientist wanted to free the villains.
Nier used to sell his body for money, until one day he basically discovered his talent at defeating shades.
There are 13 Grimoires, and Grimoire Weiss was apparently the soul of a man who was part of an experiment where a bunch of people were locked up together until they killed themselves, due to them being unable to communicate. He could communicate with one woman that was from his past, but another man used the Dark Lance spell and killed her. When that other man died he became Noir. All the people in the experiment could use the Sealed Verses.
Emil is supposed to be gay.
The book in the intro is Grimoire Schwartz, and there were a bunch of them made to test out the Gestalt process, but only Nier succeeded. All the other Shades were failures. Success is determined by whether or not the shades keep their memories.
There's a bunch more that will probably be revealed as more translations happen, but it's all really interesting so far. I'm surprised there's this much depth and I really hope they make more games to expand on the overall story.
It could mean that there's a total of eleven failed books out there, with only Noir and Weiss performing their intended function.
Also, "Schwartz"? Bwahahaha Now I want to see eight other crippled words for black and white!
Another thing: if Emil is gay... then why does he mention during the king's wedding he'd like to marry a girl sometime in the future? Stop making pointless sexuality statements, Cavia!
So anyclues?
It's actually a little odd to find it.

I'm loving how much there really is to this game. The detail is lovely.

I only read a little bit but *Mega spoiler*
- The demonic element. It's mentioned that it stabilizes Shades, which is needed if they are to return to their bodies at some point. Supposedly, it also "cures" the Black Scrawl, which is kinda like a corrupted copy: the original human was a misfit for project Gestalt, so their copy suffers a similar defect.
But if it's correct that Yonah, once she's rescued, still suffers from Black Scrawl, then does that mean that the demonic element DOESN'T cure it, but is rather necessary all the time? So basically, the Shadowlord could never, ever return to his body, or humanity would "break down" all over again?
- Replicants can't reproduce? So who brought the kids, then? Did Popola just knock on a couple's door one day and shoved a baby into their arms? Granted, the precise mechanics of baby making aren't exactly documented in-game, but something like that ought to raise SOME attention. Did the androids (that's Popola and Devola!) use some science fiction mumbojumbo from afar so that the replicants only thought they could have children?
...hm.
- History repeats itself? So in other words, there's always a new Emil, a new Kaine, a new King of Facade, and the Shadowlord is destroyed all over again? Bullshit. This makes no sense whatsoever, especially given that Emil is more than old enough to witness all that (not to mention that he turns into this creepy skeleton puppet thing).
But seriously, some of that translated stuff is really nice. Although genuinely disturbing, at times.
You don't do that in front of people, Kaine
That was a damn good read, thanks for sharing that.
Good read...but fucking creepy. I'd love to see some of this within the game or a sequal/prequal.

Can someone spoil endings B, C and D for me? I don't know if I have the time (or the stamina) to run through the second half of the game three more times. The story is willing, but the combat is weak.
"Readers who prefer tension and romance, Maledictions: The Offering, delivers... As serious YA fiction, I’ll give it five stars out of five. As a novel? Four and a half." - Liz Ellor
My new novel: Maledictions: The Offering. Now in Paperback!
Seriously, smashing through the second half of the game takes no time at all, especially since you'll be way overleveled and have superpowerful weapons, like, say, the phoenix spear.
At least get ending B yourself. C and D are very similar, but the process that gets you to B is somewhat important.
