Hey gang, enjoying my new SE stick, and can't wait to order a new joystick/buttons of the Sanwa variety. :^:

In a random question, I'm doing Challenges to build up my response time and muscle memory for the stick, but I'm having a problem nailing Sakura's timing for a specific trial (I think it's 10 or 11). Basically, it's her

    Jump H punch
    Stand M punch
    Hadoken
    Focus EX

I'm doing all of these correctly, but since Dan is blocking the Hadoken, I know my timing's off. Should I be charging, or do I literally complete the qcf before I land?

I'm not completely sure, but you are probably canceling the m punch into a hadoken, so doing it pretty much instantly (buffer the motion immediately after pressing MP).

Ah, that actually may be exactly what's happening. She keeps doing each move successfully, but apparently I'm doing a small mishap in there. I'll keep trying :^:

Yeah you basically want to double tap MP and on the second tap add a MK. Should do ya right proper.

    Kudos for playing with Sakura.

I'm really liking how Sakura feels in this installment. I never really played her in earlier installments of SF, but something about her shoto-yet-speedy style is appealing in this one.

I'm wanting to really focus on learning one character before finding an 'alt'. I'm hoping that since I have a stick, I'll also be more willing to try charge characters.

Too bad this is pretty much the worst she has been in a SF game.

Well, actually, she's better in Super than vanilla, but that's not saying much.

Still really fun though, and that's what counts in the end.

What? She's a lot better in this version than in super.

Yes she's a hard character to play because of her arsenal but I think the reward makes it worth it. There's nothing quite like mauling on a Sagat or even a Zangief with a school girl.

    nothing.

Having said that. Trying to wrap my brain around all of these new characters is not doing good things for my Sakura.

But, this version is Super. :P That's what I said.

And she is alot worse compared to her alpha incarnation. Not that she's terribly bad in this version, but yeah, underdevloped imo. Still didn't stop me from playing her, she's still good enough to hold her own.

Which is currently the same situation as makoto unfortunately. Just not as bad I think.

I use a lot from this video. Probably too much actually.

Start using s.FK more often if you are not as the range is quite surprising.

cr. HP is one of the most awesome anti-air attacks ever. Seriously you will be able to win entire matches because people will continue to jump in on you without realizing the absurd priority that it has. As for my play style I think using FADC out of shouken is a bit silly when ex-tatsu offers a lot of options but there are some damaging and flashy combos you can do.

    oh and neutral jump HK

will either set you up for another combo or if they block it you've got a pretty much free throw barring a reversal.

Using Region to help determine matches really helps a lot, it's not the best system but at the very least it helps make sure you will probably atleast be playing someone in the same country.
If a lot of Americans decide to use same region for ranked, it has the potential to screw over Canadians playing further from release date at off-peak hours. :( (same for other countries with a small player base). Hopefully the upcoming DLC fixes this, but it's likely this will happen in tournament mode as well. Play someone across the country? OK. Play someone not far from you but across the border? Fuck no!

Has anyone confirmed if Canada is considered a separate region? Because honestly, USA/Canada should be lumped into one domain - it just doesn't make sense for you guys to be separate.

This is from my observation only and I changed region selection pretty quickly, but when I had it on it seemed to put me with Canadians only, even if it was a yellow connection. When you're searching for matches the player's region is represented by a country flag, so if it's coded to be literally the same region then you're only going to get matched with other people in your country. Good for the Japanese I suppose.

Huh, that was interesting. Zangief vs. T.Hawk, it comes down to the final round, and my Gief jumps up. T.Hawk does his Ultra-II, I do my Ultra-II, and Raging Slash jumps right into Siberian Blizzard and gets grabbed to end the match.

Also, is the K.O. screen after Siberian Blizzard really really long for anyone else, too?

Using the Same Region setting I got paired up with a Canadian player, and I live in Florida. There was less lag than with some of the other people I've played that had US flags next to their name, so I'd imagine if you get a good connection to them it will cross the border leaving "Same Region" on.

Sakura may be better in Super than Vanilla, but we need this Sakura back...

Would also mean better days when Cammy was just a couple places below Sagat.

Adon's Rising Jaguar FADC U2 is the weirdest thing. His dash is too good, so if the Rising Jaguar is done too close, the first qcf for the ultra actually has to be done backwards, else I get an EX Rising Jaguar every time. If the Rising Jaguar is done just a step away, I can do it normally just fine.

That quirk aside, I'm really liking Adon. He seems to have problems with characters with really strong normals, though. Bison in particular, no idea what to do to him.

In all versions of SF, Bison has a lot of trouble with jump-ins as he has very few "go-to" AA options. Try landing combos after a jump in, and mix it up with throws when you can.

try playing as another character, or play with other novices or people who aren't super-competitive

honestly, i've pretty much decided I don't care that much to be super good with one character I just want to play super casually as a bunch of different people. I'd rather play with people who feel the same way.

Like I said on the thread, I think that what they're aiming for mostly is to use it frame traps. Like if you got them to block a f+MK/MP (not too sure about f+MP) if they attempt to jab you out it'll absorb and grab them. It is the fastest karakusa. In which case it's useful because it beats both jab and block.

Not that people would want to jab out of f+MK anyway if you keep doing the HK followup. :P
