Day 2
The man in the iron mask gave most of the Consilium the creeps.
He was not the sort most trusted, or even wanted the trust of.
Still, all gathered knew a Guardian Soothsayer was a necessary evil.
As such, the Emissary's words were always valued, and frequently used as cause to take action.
"They are among you."
The phrase was distorted as it passed through the cold steel gap that allowed words to escape, but all knew its meaning.
Traitors in their midst.
The gathered were from all orders, and regarded one another with cautious looks.
Surely it wasn't one of their own. With so many new arrivals as of late, who could be sure?
Yet when they arrived for the following evening's events, four of them could not be found.
The_Reflection had been chosen by the gathering as a likely candidate for purging.
Regrettably, the analysis of his ashed remains showed no taint of the Exarchs' influence.
A member of the Free Council quietly offered the two abandoned robes she had discovered in the local study; clearly belonging to romanqwerty and Delphinidaes.
Their whereabouts remain unknown, though any attempts to contact them through traditional or supernatural means have gone unanswered, leading those assembled to assume the worst.
Yet when all seemed bleak, a man in dark robes approached, and shoved another in similar garb forward before the assembly.
"This one possesses the taint, and must be obliterated."
Before either Ringo or the assembly could object, the man raised a hand, and sent a burst of spiritual flame into the back of the accused's skull.
This would have been cause for immediate imprisonment, had not Ringo's head, and the rest of his body, dissolved into pillars of black ash with red trails.
The taint had been found. Yet the taint would still need to be cleansed before all was well.
The man bowed his head and departed, his task done.
