I clearly remember going back to SWG {new account, couldn't remember the old one} after the CU and tried fighting those butterflies outside of Corellia. I was level 6 or so, they were 4. I got killed just about every time. If I wasn't 4 levels above it, I would most likely die. Although it might of been different at the higher levels. I didn't bother working my way back up it.

There was a brief period in which the game was pretty balanced.

    Very brief.

    That was a dream, sorry.

I played a couple of two-week trials for SW: G. It was kind of fun, but I never really got into it. I sure wanted to, though.

What I really, truly hated was that at any given moment, about 95% of a given server's jedi population was on Kashyyk, because the Bounty Hunter probe droids didn't work there.

That was because 95% of the bounty hunters were lazy morons who couldn't figure out how to get the jedi there. It was quite easy.

I'd have a friend of mine scouring the trails and mailing me lists of jedi names and dungeon instances. I would pull their missions one at a time, fly there and kill them. Most of the time the jedi were macro-killing mobs and went down easy. Others would try to run from the middle of big mob groups and go down fighting. Killing one or two jedi would let the mobs wipe out out their whole cheating group, then I would mop up the rest at the cloner.

I was the terror of the Ryatt trails. I had a network of real informants, friendly jedi who I paid to rat out their friends and leave them alone. I made millions. I bought the best armor (mandalorian baby!), weapons, and anti-decay kits. It got to the point where people would run away from me in cantinas and starports because they thought I had their mission. I played an all-business cold killer who rarely spoke to a mark (or anyone for that matter) before or after the fight. NO OTHER game in existence today gives me that feeling of a real bounty hunter, and none ever will.

The jedi whined that I (and others like me) were griefing them, so SOE introduced "anonymous" bounty missions to make it more "fair" for jedi to macro cheat in peace. I retired.

Yeah, that was about the time I tried doing the missions.

Yeah, that was about the time I tried doing the missions.

The missions got a lot less fun after that, but I still pulled plenty of them.

Seriously though, you guys have no idea what a /hate tell is.

My favorite kill was on Mustafar. A jedi pulled out his reward skiff thing and had a whole bunch of people onboard.

It was perfect, he was out on a lake of lava. I pulled out a rifle and popped his vehicle in a couple of shots and dumped everyone on board into the hot red stuff.

Most of them died, the jedi managed to force run to shore with low health where I finished him off and delivered the deathblow.

I walked off and the hate /tells kept coming for at least half an hour. I only said one thing, one time: "When I start caring about what others think of my operating methods, I'll let you know."

That may be the most badass gaming story I've ever heard.

I never played SW:G, but reading all this, it's a fascinating case study of beauty in imperfection. It seems like the game was horribly broken from day one, but a lot of people preferred it that way, because they made their own fun. For a genre that is more or less based around that kind of emergent gameplay, that seems like it would be the ideal.

I allways thought the Force Sensitive XP and Dathomir Jedi town worked out a lot beter than the hologrind. Why did people even like the Hologrind?

oh yeah: "The Hologrind deters people from being Jedi"

    WRONG.

At least with the other system people would still actually play their profs and take time out to dick around in the town to get their FS XP. rather than people fucking ghosting profession for no reason except to become Jedi lawl.

Heck I liked that system because it iontroduces people using FS to boost their profs, FS Chefs were fucking Win, made the best Brandy and other buff food ever.

Seriously though, the only way that Star Wars Galaxies could be a worse game would be to have the label "A Derek Smart Simulation"

Im not sure what your problem was. Even after the CU, I would solo Krayts easily, and even 2 manned a GDK. The only reason for that is Giant Dune Kimos have a horrible disease attack. You need to have one person attack while the other meditates off the disease, or you will be wounded till you have 1 health.
Reminds me of how much I vaguely appreciated part of the CU, if only because it gave Rangers some much needed strength in how levels seemed to work. Before the CU a damn Dancer/Pistoleer was as strong as a Master Ranger/Anything, so it was rough having to always have a group to survive in the wilderness. After the CU I remember hunting Krayts at least once a week for the sheer enjoyment of a natural hunter amongst the wild, fighting 10-30 minute battles with these gigantic goddamn dragons.

I'm pretty sure I killed every kind of Krayt in existence, but it took me around 30 minutes flat to kill an Ancient. There just wasn't enough firepower in my arsenal, not to mention I used more than 30 traps at a time just to keep up the snares and reduce its resistances as I fought the damn things. For awhile there I was a BH/MRanger and every time I failed to kill a Jedi (about 95% of the time) I'd go out and hunt Krayt for ego's sake. That game really made hunting satisfying for an end game character. It wasn't just leveling, or even supporting the economy of meats at that point, it was just plain fun trying to kill something that large.

Ah.. the wonderful world of strafing.
