So I'll probably have just enough money to pick up a new game in a couple weeks and I'm in the mood for a hard shooter so the question is...S&P2 or Death Smiles?

That's what I was saying. I got Deathsmiles and almost passed this up and was very very sorry I did.

They are both long, hard, and excellent. I would play one, and take a break with the other. I'm talking flip a coin. They are that good.

But do trade some games, sell some blood, something to get the other one when you have a chance. I'm leaning towards Deathsmiles first, to grab a limited edition while you have the chance. But this game is damn sick too.

Can only judge Deathsmiles by videos due to it being exclusive to the wrong damned platform, but it looks more... standard, as far as shmups go, than S&P2.
There has never been a game quite like S&P2.

I traded in Red Dead Redemption to get this. I regret nothing--except for the fact that my trip into town revealed Sakura Wars was on sale, and I didn't have the cash for it. I kind of regret finding that out.

SW really has been terrible at falling in price.

    Anyway, right decision.

Beaten with Isa on Normal mode. Good lord that was hard. I'll have to play through it again with Kachi at some point. Definitely did not upload any of my scores because I died so many times and my score was pathetically low. It was an absolute blast to play through, though.

Kachi makes normal enemies easier and bosses harder. Good luck with level 7 when you do try.

Holeee shit I just switched to Isa and it's making all the difference in the world.

Kachi deserves a more unique playstyle in which she can use her lock-on charge shot more casually like Rez and Panzer Dragoon. Give it less power and no cooldown. I'm not going back to using her. Not a chance in hell.

There's an extra mode for beating it with both characters? Depending on what it is, I might have to play it again with Kachi.

Yep, apparently allows you to switch between both at will, effectively giving you two health bars. Also has some extra ending or something.

Oh man I've been playing this ever so sparingly to make it last. I just got to that lava mountain stage. It has been so much fun so far. I'm glad it looks like it could be worth it to run through with the other character too.
I love how you fight 2 of the most ridiculous bosses and then at the end of the stage they both come back and morph together. Fucking epic.

Really? I thought that bit was one of the easier bosses. I had a much more difficult time with the "My blood is on fire!" boss which came earlier in the game.

Yeah I've one tried pretty much all the bosses with the exception of the MY BLOOD IS ON FIRE one. It was still awesome though, and I love how rewarding figuring things out on your own is. I haven't faced this much defeat without wanting to run online and see how to not suck in quite some time.

Yeah, that mode is how a friend and I played the first one. For everything but the last boss it worked out great. The last boss, however, requires a lot of coordination between your moving and shooting, so it got pretty hard there.

By the way, ultimate control style is wiimote+nunchuk, just map melee to C and jump to tapping up. You'll be in the ground most of the time if you're trying to earn points, and having melee mapped to a button that's not used for something else is a godsend.

Also, I am going to obliterate the easy mode international list. Just watch.

I have my small rundown of each difficulty.

Easy: FUCK YEAH I'M KING SHIT FUCK ALL THESE DUDES. OWN EVERYTHING NEVER STOP.

Hard: The bullets don't stop coming at you ever.

Normal: Somehow harder than Hard because you're totally expecting to get killed by some shit that is in Hard but not Normal, thus making you fuck up anyway.

I play easy because it makes me feel badass. If I want a challenge, I go with Hard. I don't touch normal because it royally fucks up my rhythm somehow. Also, if you just want to unlock costumes, go the easy route. Less of a pain in the ass to beat the game 3 different ways on easy than it is on the others.

    Interesting.

So I came back to the game after beating it around launch time. I managed to go all the way and beat stage 1&2 without dying on normal. The only trouble was dolphin guy, that got a bit close.

Yeah, your score continually rises if you're on the ground, and the only purpose behind jumping is it lets you dodge up while still counting as "on the ground."

Anyway, I beat Isa's campaign the other week. By beat, I mean eventually hit Continue enough times to make it through. My final score ended up being "Couple hundred thousand for the prologue, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, couple million for final boss." I started messing around with Kachi's run. And I'm gonna have t oagree with what was said earlier: if that lockon stays for the entire game the final boss is going to be hard as hell.

You gain points while standing on the ground, and I think 10x more while the stage is moving. That is all affected by multiplier too.

Playing through for the 2nd time with Isa on Easy. The first time through I had the default controls, but once I got to
    the lava stage
it became very apparent why people were changing their melee attack to C and making Jump work as tapping Up on the stick. Knowing how the controls worked in S&P1, I understand why the default in S&P2 is the way it is. However, it's very obvious now that having melee attack be separate from the hand controling the reticule should be the default.

Tonight, I just restarted with Isa on Easy again, this time with the changed controls. I got my first game over at the part where
baby of the boss at the train part swings Kachi from a crane above lava to her doom. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong that keeps me from losing at this part. Shoot one side to raise platform, shoot baby to raise up Kachi, shoot other side to raise platform, back to baby, repeat. Maybe I'm spending too long on the side parts?

Anyway, from this game over, I checked the online leaderboards to see where I stand now. I can't believe this. 11th on Local, 111th on Regional, 191st on International. On my 2nd time playing! WHAT?!

This game is so much fun, and so perfect with Wiimote+Nunchuk. If you haven't bought it, you need to ask yourself why you have a Wii.
