I'm thinking of pre-ordering this game to get a beta version, but I'm curious: is there someplace that lists what creatures counter what? Because from the videos I've watched that looks to be pretty vital, and I'd have no bloody idea for half the things. For example, what Protoss unit counters Hydras? What Terran unit counters Zealots?
These are the kind of things I need to know.
There is a help menu that shows ever unit and what its strong and weak against
Where do I find this exactly? I just got the beta and I'm fairly uninformed about the unit matchups.
In the game in one of the menus, I believe. Watch a replay to check it, since you can access the menus there.
cool thanks

finally finished five placement games. I won 4/5 but the first one the person left right away and the last one he was lagging. I am 99% sure I was gonna win it, it was tvt and he went for a reaper harass that I fought off easily and then mmm'd him to death. stims and 1/1 upgrades made the difference.
so I got placed in silver which I guess is right. it's bronze, silver, gold, platinum right? I got destroyed in my fourth game. it was sad.

Yeah, the list in the help menu can provide some guidelines, but some of it is pretty ridiculous.
Counter to zerglings? For zerg, banelings. For terran, hellions. For protoss, Archons!
Counter to banelings? For zerg, roaches. For protoss, stalkers. For terran, Thors!
Counter to colossus? For protoss, immortals. For terran, thors (vikings are probably better, but eh). For zerg, Ultralisks!
In general, though, there's a lot of good information there. I copied it all onto slips of paper and taped it up above my desk, and I still refer to it every once in awhile. Eventually you'll realize which ones are ridiculous, and you can use it to remind you if you forget briefly.

There's a copper league below bronze, too, but beyond that you're right.

You don't tech to archons whenever someone is ling rushing you?

Its like F9 or 11. You can bring it up anytime during game play.

I don't understand why I keep losing!
I do my scouting and I'm like SHIT THEY BUILT A SPAWNING POOL THEY'RE GOING 'LINGS and then I try to get my gate, core, council, and archives up but I'm just not fast enough!
Is there a legitimate shot at trying out an all-in build order against Terrans that would be for the express strategy of rushing with spine crawlers? When you find your opponent, you'd ideally have your first overlord spew creep and bring three or so drones to spawn into spine crawlers. Your second overlord would be rallied to the enemy ramp to give vision for the spine crawlers to attack up and destroy the depot wall from a distance allowing your Lings to flood in. This would all have to happen before they get Siege Tanks of course.
Obviously this would only work once if it worked at all. Remember, the point is to use the spine crawlers range to safely destroy the depots for your Zerglings. If it fails, you basically lose.
Just Theorycrafting.

Overlords require a Lair to spew creep. Honestly against Terran players, I would do all out with a Nydus at that stage (Lair stage, that is) since the exit of the Nydus begins spewing creep around it. Throw some Drones in to make spine crawlers in their base. Or can Spine Crawlers go through a Nydus? Hmm...
I could test it if you want. But i wouldn't use the OL creep spew since that would require a fast tech to lair and he would likely just pick it off.
I'd get 2 queens, send one to his ramp with some zerglings, and drones, build a hatch, cancel it, build a creep tumor on the creep, then start with the spines. You would probably have to do all that out of his sight range, using a mass of lings to keep him in his base.

Trus when is the final!?
I thought the creep doesn't begin to spread from a hatch until it has been completed?
I wonder what the enemy would do if I hid my pool in the middle of nowhere. Would he just think i was really bad and try some stupid all in, only to discover i have 30 lings massed?
Too bad all the Gamestop beta keys stop working at the end of the month. What am I going to do for 4 weeks?
What? Huh? Where did you hear this?
It's on my receipt, "Code expires 5/31/10."
Well I hope you use it before then, or else you won't be able to get into the beta.
I think Stig is right. Also, the online orders did not specify any expiration date. I'd imagine we are in the same pool as the normal beta people at this point. I do expect the beta to end a bit before release though.

a cool (possibly overpowering) corrupter buff would be if they could corrupt pylons. that would be so sweet and yet so wrong. hahahaha.
cool thanks

They need to let corruptors sucker onto the heads of ground units, like an octopus. But make it vulnerable to ground fire while it does this.

Does too.
Let us battle!

Edit: Gah, so beated!
You can even hide a spawning pool in the middle of nowhere with a canceled hatch.
That is a lot faster than I expected. I'm stoked.

I see what you mean. Then just pop a tumor on it and go to town outside his base.
shouldn't that be 8 weeks?
If the key expired at the end of May I'd have to wait 27 days until SC2 was released. 27 ~ 4 weeks, right?

This is from getting a Gamestop key.
i heard about the most pro thing to do
take a drone + queen to your opponent's base
start building a hatch, cancel it, use the tiny bit of remaining creep from the hatch it leaves behind even if canceled
put down a creep tumor, start sunkening your opponent's main
but the hatch won't make creep until it completes, pee rot
...waaaaaiiit a minute
Yeah the expiration date is almost certainly a "enter the code on battle.net before this date" sort of deal.
