What the hell did I just see? multi-story bike...?
I was driving last night and I saw something that looks like a cyclist, but he was really high up
Upon closer inspection it was something I've never seen before. Let me explain
Imagine a tandem bicycle, but with...8 people.
It was at LEAST 2 rows high, with the top row just peddling for the exercise I suppose. It looks like a square frame connecting all these bikes with a bunch of people peddling.
I have no idea what was going on. This was about midnight, in Melbourne Australia.
I know I'm not crazy because I picked up my girlfriend, explained it to her, she thought I was nuts, then on the way to my house we saw it again.
there generally called party bikes, though I've never seen a 2-story one before. places rent them out to groups of tourists or office party type things. some even have tables in the middle and serve food/drinks to the people as they tour around. Not a bad way to see a city I guess.

Oh, color me wrong. I thought the OP was talking about the ridiculous bikes all the crusty bike kids around here make. I Googled "party bike" and was informed.
But with multiple people going up higher and a few rows connected? It was probably some bike shops invention, that's where most "tall bikes" come from it seems. I don't know if anyone can tell you exactly what it was as its probably unique and doesn't have a name. You may want to call local bike shops about it and see if you get any leads.
Are they coming back into style? Larger bikes used to be popular at the turn of the 1900's, but mostly due to construction techniques they used then. With modern technology, I could see practical large bikes appearing.
As Esh pointed out, extravagant "tall bikes" have been pretty popular with the crusty American hipsters for years now. My art-school drop-out friends in Philadelphia are especially fond of a tall bike.

this?
It wasn't this.
It was huge.
Something crazy like that?
edit: This is in Australia. Was in some article about some protest last year.

Wow, it looks really similar to this...same colour too. But...bigger...and the back part wasn't there. It was amazing. I should have followed it.
