Whelp, that's unfortunate. Just got into the beta. Played a bunch on Thebes on the weekend. This is my first foray into the Planetside series. When you're sprinting across open ground toward an enemy outpost with 50 others just on the minimap alone, while tracer fire lights up everything around you, this game really feels like what Battlefield 3 should have been.
Unfortunately it seems that the weekend is the only time I can play. The servers lock around the time I get off work, and don't come back up until around 11:30 PM during weekdays.

You must not live in the US. That's a shame. They seem to be keeping the servers open only during American hours.

I don't get off work until 11:00 and I don't get to usually play anything until 1:30 or 2:00 and the servers shut down at 2:00 so I don't get to play much either (didn't get a chance at all tonight)
Last couple of nights have been great, once I get on the server. The new continent is fun as a support character, run around healing, after deploying a sunderer near the front line so men can push forward.

Last night was amazing. Hexus got us to push both the TR and VS back to their respective warp gates and to hold them them there until the server went down on the Ice map. We were getting 90 arx a tick.

How does one know when these Hexus ops are going down?

A situation that has remained for the entire day today. I salute you.
Problem is, all the NC are hanging out there getting fat on Aurax, while indar side is getting murdered.
Was part of an assault on Zurvan, the VS were doing fine repulsing us, then a massive gal and mosquito rush from the TR on the north took Zurvan in like minutes. During this my framerate slowed to approximately .00001 fps. I could have literally hand drawn the screens faster.
Cant wait till this stress test is over and they open up more servers, this west coast one plus the population on it at peak is killing my game.
I like the high population; there's nothing worse than nobody being online and just a bunch of empty bases.
It does seem like population balance is a little bit wacky, though. Yesterday the map was fairly evenly split between the factions, but today it seemed like TR was really getting their shit pushed in by vanu.

After a few days of playing, this game is the most fun that I've played in years. Seriously good times, the folks in charge of designing the terrain did a good job of making flanking and out-maneuvering the opponent not only possible, but incredibly rewarding. The best part is, it's not done in a terrible artificial-feeling way, but with sexy ridgelines and gullies and obstacles.
I didn't think certs felt as bad as people are making them out to be, I was pulling ~3-5 an hours depending on what I was doing, and there's passive cert gains even when you're offline. I feel like there's a pretty reasonable rate of progression, and this is without boosts and implants.

Well, I think part of the problem is things like the following. Reflex sight used to be pretty cheap, and now is 96 certs I think. Meanwhile a 3.4x scope is something like 50 (that's wrong but still pretty high) but the -laser- 3.4x scope is 10 certs. 10. Certs. Something is still pretty screwed up. This is for a medic by the way. Things I want for my gun to make it not suck are disproportionately expensive compared tot he things that are less useful. I had a fairly good setup with one of the suppressors, a 4x Laser sight or a 2x reflex sight (which I can't get anymore), laser on the rail, and the high velocity ammo (which you can't get anymore either).
I still have fundamental disagreements with having to unlock the same scope or attachment for each gun. All this sytem is telling me to do is to not spend any certs on weapons until I have enough Auraxium to buy the "best" gun for my class.
Yeah I definitely think weapon mods should unlock for the whole class of weapon, not each individual variant, especially if cert costs are going to be so high. I'm hoping the cert costs will come down though, especially for little things like sights. There's a lot of feedback on cert prices, etc, and SOE is definitely listening. Hopefully they act on it.
I've been having a blast during these max populations. Some of the battles get so big that if/when you get into enemy lines, you can go unnoticed for a large amount of time and rake in kills. I was playing Light assault and dropped down from a high ridge behind the enemy armor lines. I C4'd a lightning killing it and the guy fixing it and the proceeded to run around pistol knifing people. I got ~ 14 kills before someone finally noticed me and shot me.
Last night I was laughing out loud at the fun I was having running "covert ops". I would run around on an infiltrator stealth past enemy lines to the base/tower they were pushing from then hacking turrets to kill the gunner inside, then hopping in the AV turrets and just murdering any armor in front of me. I would get 3-5 MBT or lightning kills before people would start blowing up the turret. Then i would bail, cloak, run around to throw them off, then hack another turret and start over. So much fun.

How can I find a good outfit to join up with? Hexus' group sounds like a good time. I'd also enjoy being part of a general PA outfit. Do we have one set up yet? Anybody else playing in a good group and want to send me an invite? And is there a PA Mumble or Teamspeak for Planetside 2?
Really enjoying this game so far, especially well-coordinated operations. I just had a great experience defending a little outpost that is surrounded by hills. Found a defensible position as an infiltrator and caused so much havoc. Had a 13-kill streak at one point.
I'm Shalimar on US East. Edit: Should add I'm NC. Willing to change (love the Barneys) but it seemed that most PA are NC. Abbrev.
I had a good time last night, I was rolling with a good group and we were stomping the shit out of NC and TR. We'd roll in a group of tanks and air support and bombard their bases for about 5 minutes, then we'd pull in and cap everything. I was using proximity chat to direct people around and that seemed to work pretty well because I'd always get 3-8 people helping me out. I got more kills last night than I have since I started playing, plus more caps and I also helped keep TR from taking back one of their places we capped.
Thinking about trying TR again to see if I'd like them more than I did the first time.

So I have the graphics maxed out. I haven't even stepped out of the spawn area, but everything looks like it has a thin layer of Vaseline mixed with neon on it. Is this an issue or the way it's supposed to look? Even in the character select screen the character looks blurry as hell, yet looking at the pictures of the head options, they look crisp.
I've noticed things like that too; I think the sunlight at different times of day is interacting weirdly with some video cards. Like, the 'mid-day' sun looks fine, but stuff starts looking weird to me (especially at a distance) under the 'dusk' lighting.
also I think only the NC currently realize that easimir is up, because TR and vanu have been warpgated there all day and don't seem to be interested in getting un-warpgated.

I think it's more that there is no reason to fight over a continent you don't have a foothold on. Unless you're in a large outfit that has a decent chance of breaking the warpgate siege on their own, your best case scenario is getting camped for hours while earning 0 resources. It's a much better idea to go to the continent that has an actual fight going on and gain resources for it in the process.
It's something that's going to need addressing, especially once their are 3 continents and each faction will be tempted to just take over one and sit there.
I haven't played in a few days, been running maintenance on my pc. Last two times I tried to play (since a hotfix patch) I have gotten hard lockups, one of which was followed by a BSOD. I figure its my video card, 9800 GTX, which I was planning on getting another and SLI'ing it before I lost my job a year and a half ago, but now its just obsolete. New job just doesn't provide the budget for whiz bang computer parts anymore
it's kind of easy to miss that easimir is up, if you weren't following the dev announcements. If you just loaded the game up you spawned on indar like normal and the terminals aren't really in a prominent place.
I was actually under the impression we'd be restricted to just easimir this time around, rather than having both continents to fight over.

Speaking of reavers (havent tried it with a scythe, and who the hell cares about Mosquitos, mirite?), I found a great way to stay in a fixed vertical position, great for standing off and barraging a target. Trying to take a video of it because its hard to explain.
Basically roll upside down, then hit hold Left Control. Your downward thrusters are equivalent to the fall rate, so you effectively hover, albeit upside down. Can be a little disconcerting at first, especially if you actually have flown before. But it works great for staying in one position and barraging distant ground targets, a lot better than trying to keep your cross-hairs on a distant target and keep hitting space every second or so. Just make sure you dont mistakenly hit Space bar when you go to break off, as youll probably fly into the ground. I basically think of it as being in a dome and you're attacking targets on the ceiling. Helps with the disorientation.
Got the idea from a guy hovering upside down perfectly still at the warp gate. Thought it might be a bug till I tried it.
Also: why would I want to go to a warpgated Esamir and get zero resources trying to break the lines when I can conquer Indar instead now that NC or whatever is busy camping warpgates on Esamir?

Yeah but the problem is that NC can head over to Esamir for just under 10 minutes and completely refill all their resources, and come right back to Indar. Thats why even though we have esamir gated, we still usually have around aprox. 1/3 of the map.
Apparently, once there are three continents, they are going to change how warpgates work. One of the three warpgates will be a permanent warpgate/sanctuary for one of the factions, while the other two will be simple warpgates for intercontinental travel. This will effectively give each faction a home continent.

Will that mean you can take over the actual hexes for those warpgates? Could prove for some really interesting fights.
You couldn't actually shoot inside the warpgate bubbles in PS1, could you? Man, I barely remember how things worked there.

Dunno whether the warpgates will actually be capturable/resource hexes. No details on that sort of thing yet, just the general idea that each faction will have a home continent.
Yeah in PS1 warpgates were weapon-locked, and all factions used the same warpgates.
Auraxium will no longer be gained passively. You gain auraxium by doing stuff!
They are considering removal of auraxium entirely and doing all weapon unlocks simply with certs. Other comments from devs since that was posted seem to suggest this is likely.
Also, they are going to significantly reduce the cost of weapon attachments 8-)
Also, word is there will be new weapons in tomorrow's patch (chaingun/lasher/jackhammer, shotguns, grenade launchers and more)
I really like the idea of moving auraxium gain from a passive to an active thing, but I really don't like the idea of moving weapon unlocks to certs unless they drastically lower the time it takes to unlock something (which they've said they want to keep it the same).
Right now you can grind out auraxium for 3 or 4 nights to unlock a 7500 item but it's not that big of a deal because you're getting cert upgrades during that time. If you move weapon unlocks to certs and keep the 3 or 4 nights requirement, that drastically cuts down on stuff like scopes and ability upgrades and zoom optics for your tank.

Smedly-san says there is supposed to be a patch tonight and they are just working out the last few kinks. Probably get on when that drops.
you can't really read much about the current resource system into how things will work on live; they're using ever beta iteration to test a new resource setup. If they gave you certs for doing the stuff you currently get auraxium for and just put everything on the same system it'd be fine, but who knows.
I kind of like that locations on the map are tied to resources, though.

Wait, you can grind Auraxium? How the fuck do you do that? I have been sitting at 3-4k forEVER.
Zoom optics for a tank is something like 350 certs. Which is just a crazy amount for a 3x zoom. I have been playing all week and have maybe (MAYBE) 80 certs. Every update they say "Oh, we are going to fix cert costs this time" and they never do. I honestly think they have no idea what they are doing.
