I would be interested in ACB next weekend for sure. My gamertag, rather predictably, is Aegeri. I will play some during the week to level up as well if required (I think I was 19 or something like this).
Also I have concluded after looking up the Battle Trophies in Star Ocean that the 100% battle trophy achievement is a war crime against humanity. Seriously, fuck that shit.
Anyway, I've got an interest in getting the multi-player achievements for GTAIV.
I find it somewhat fascinating that I can't be particularly arsed to care about the RDR stuff, but would rather try and finish off IV. The sizable differences in the amount are probably the big factor.
I threw my hands up at the griefing stories surrounding the wanted level achievement. By comparison, they made the horror stories for GTAIV seem tame in comparison.
Now I'd actually consider it a point of 'pride' to complete IV. I can barely think of a reason to want to do the same with RDR. I even set a baseline limit on my interest in Undead Nightmare and still doubt I'd care enough if it ever reached it.
I was able to get the wanted level achievement without grief. It was just a matter playing against peak-usage. I was also playing in Hardcore free roam, iirc. But once I got my wanted level up I just ran for the hills... literally. There was like a little divot in the terrain that I just stuffed myself into. It wasn't a terrain exploit-ish divot, but just enough to let me see others and get out quickly if I had to.
For IV, "Top The Midnight Club" was the achieve that kind of put me off to even bothering with it further. There are some SP achieves that I didn't get though. May be worth doing a little clean-up on soonish.

“I used to draw, hard to admit that I used to draw...”
Once the hype(?) for RDR multiplayer died down a bit, I started seeing decent suggestions for obtaining Most Wanted. But by then, I'd already been turned off by the whole presentation anyway and the DLC that came out after just seemed so half-assed that I never bothered to care. RDR singleplayer was mostly really good, but it never struck me as being suited for multiplayer.
It's simply now one of the games on my list that I've accepted that I'll never get all of them.
I am, though, interested enough in the GTAIV stuff (plus, missing 140 points compared to 630 feels more reasonable to me) so if there is an attempt to party-up for it, I'm game.
I recently completed a Hard run of Alan Wake in which I attempted to knock out all of the collectible achievements. I finished the game with 99 out of 100 thermoses, and as you can imagine, I was crushed. I also ended with 24 out of 25 signs somehow.
It turns out the guide I was using only listed 94 thermoses, so shame on me for not paying attention more closely before starting the game. I'm thinking of playing through again on Nightmare, but I don't know how feasible it will be to finish the game AND check every single thermos location. Has anyone done this?
de blob 2 seems cute and fun so far, but man the collectible situation is the worst. also if you dont get everything on a level the first time the entire thing resets and you have to play the entire level again if you want to try to find the last collectible or whatever. so... fuck getting 100% in that game basically. i really hate collectible based achievements and stuff already, and de blob 2 really goes out of its way to rub your face in it.

It's not feasible on Nightmare. Nightmare is... aptly named. It's amazing but it's also a completely different game than other difficulties. I would recommend just running through on Normal after you finish up on Nightmare.

I'm just missing 70 points for the full (original) score of RDR, but getting to level 50, then chuck out 4 consecutive wins in Free-For-All and that achievement where you need to be wanted for 10 minutes and then escape (in a ranked lobby)... Yeah fuck that.
Rockstar, I'm sorry to say it, but your multiplayer is lacking, stop using achievements to boost your multiplayer stats.

Can't you just get a full thermo locations list, and crosscheck which ones you've got already and make out the remaining 6 thermoses?

Using Nightmare as anything other than collecting the Nightmare-only pages is a fools errand. I'm not looking forward to it.
In the end, you're probably better off doing the Nightmare stuff first and then deleting the save files and starting all over for the thermoses and signs.
As a collect-a-thon, Alan Wake sucks donkey dicks.
Can't you just get a full thermo locations list, and crosscheck which ones you've got already and make out the remaining 6 thermoses?
Not really. Once you collect the thermos, it's gone forever. You could be running around in circles looking for a thermos you already collected. I'm missing three and there is no fucking way I'm doing that.
My plan is to eventually slog through Nightmare to beat it and collect those pages. Then either delete the save files or move them off the HDD temporarily and restart the game 'fresh' on an easy difficulty so that I can make sure I collect ever thermos along the way.
Again, Alan Wake is a prime example of shitty collect-a-thons.

YOUR ACHIEVEMENT HUNGER IS WEAK, GRASSHOPPER. :P
There are other games with collectibles and auto-save/checkpoints that force you to replay the entire game if you miss one. Bionic Commando did that, iirc.
“I used to draw, hard to admit that I used to draw...”
we got the achievement for wanted levels in RDR through teamwork and it was a blast getting it
I'd hate trying to get it just by filling a party and having people not bug me. That wouldn't be fun.
I'm already not interesting in getting it because it isn't fun. Filling a party and just hanging out isn't going to make it any worse.
The idea that a developer would make a gameplay feature that intentionally encourages griefing is mind-boggling. Ten minutes combined? Sounds reasonable. Ten minutes in a row? Might as well have one for winning 100 duels in a row and sucks for you if people keep quitting rather than lose.
it's not as hard as you're making it out to be, or as not fun. If you consider killing other players griefing then I would encourage you to not play a game that has guns in it.

Wasn't there an achievement for filling up a posse? Bleh, you guys are piquing my interest in that game again.
How long did it take to get to MP level 50, Sirialis? Do they have double XP weekends or whatever in RDR?
I don't know how long it takes to get to level 50, I only made it to high 20's or something, I did all the hideouts, but it just got boring (none of my friends played this in MP) they did have double XP periods last time I tried it.
The Posse achievement is piss easy though, just spam people to join your posse, get 8 members (I think it's 8) and the achievement will pop, I stayed and joined the other people's posse's so they could get the achievement too, no big fuss.
Yeah had good times getting the wanted level with some friends, holed up on a roof racking up my wanted level and holding off the cops and random players until they started making some headway. My friends hold the players off while I jump down a series of rooftops and whistle for my horse. I ride out of town as fast as I can, into the sunset, appropriately enough, and the achievement popped after about a minute and a half of checking to make sure I wasn't being pursued.
But yes, on the whole, Rockstar's MP achievements are dumb.

for our wanted achievement, we had three dudes, stole a covered wagon, and hid out in some place in mexico. It was so western and so incredible that it stands out as one of the most fun experiences I've had in open-world multiplayer.
it's not as hard as you're making it out to be, or as not fun. If you consider killing other players griefing then I would encourage you to not play a game that has guns in it.
I encourage you not to simplify my point like that. No matter how easy or fun you think it is, there is somebody else that won't consider it the same.
I have absolutely no interest in joining a room full of random people and then trying to unlock an achievement based mainly on luck for a game that isn't as special to me as it is to others.
I got the Wanted achievement in a full lobby by myself, and I still had the shitty horse you get right after the donkey. I think the other people in the game took pity on me.

Yea, I think we can all agree that you didn't like RDR that much and have no desire to try and get the MP achievements in it again. But at the same time, you're saying that it's because of the risk for/it encourages griefing and all.
afaik, you've never attempted to get it... so naturally people who have done it and not had the griefing and horrible times with it are going to say they didn't have that problem?

what tasty said. I'd encourage you not to simplify an entire achievement just because you may have had a bad experience with it.
Based mainly on luck? It's based on you surviving. That's not really luck. People are going to hunt you, and they're not doing it to grief you, they're doing it because that's how becoming most wanted works in that game. The fact that you're in there just to get an achievement doesn't mean that them playing the game how it's intended is suddenly griefing.

The other thing too to consider is that it's 10 minutes because with a crappy horse it's entirely feasible for players to have to spend 5-8 minutes tracking you down to kill you, and then possibly get another attempt or two with respawns. If it were shorter, it'd very easy to get.
edit: It doesn't make a difference at all dude, we're just saying that if you say something that's different from what other people have experienced, they're going to respond to it. it's just conversation. I mean, if you really didn't want anybody to comment that their experience wasn't the case or that they enjoyed the game and getting that achievement was the defining moment of their RDR experience, maybe you should have self-censored that opinion? You actually brought RDR up when they were talking about GTA...

Telling me that I should keep quiet in expressing my views because they don't match the views of others hardly seems like a 'discussion'.
Neither is attempting to browbeat a person for expressing their views on a subject to conform.
I never said others can't express their experiences with Most Wanted. What I'm objecting to is the idea that, because I feel differently about it, that I'm somehow wrong for deciding against getting it.
I brought up RDR in the context of GTAIV because, from my view, the multiplayer game functions essentially the same. Nothing about either calls to me on any particular level. But I've decided, for my own reasons and values, that attempting to get the IV stuff is more worthwhile than the RDR stuff.
And, since this is a thread about generally arranging those kinds of sessions, doesn't it seem more reasonable that I might be more interested in doing something I'd otherwise avoid by grouping up with like-minded individuals who might be friendly enough to help boost an achievement? Competitive or otherwise?
I would find it more fun to be in a party of eight people where they won't shoot at me for ten minutes so I can unlock a dumb achievement. I fail to see why I should alter that just to match somebody else's idea of fun.

Which, by the way, in spite of all this nonsense, I'd still be interested in doing.
I prefer a more casual multiplayer experience with a side of occasional 'boosting' for points from time to time. This is not the sort of thing that should be held against me.

Thanks for the advice Santa. I'll do a Normal run for those last collectibles, and try to blast straight through Nightmare some other time.
I do have some bad news for you though. The collectibles are tied to your gamertag, so once you find a thermos it is permanently removed from the game. Deleting your save file will not bring them back for you to find again. This was the first thing I tried when I decided to do a collectible run. It completely sucks. Can Pyramids are treated the same way, but Manuscript pages, Radios, TVs and Caches will still be there for you to find again.
Since I have 99 thermoses, and I honestly don't remember which one I missed, I am going to have to literally check every single location again. And this time, I'll have to reference a screen shot of every single one, just to make sure. Not looking forward to it. Good thing I really like the game, otherwise I wouldn't bother.
