I do have some bad news for you though. The collectibles are tied to your gamertag,
I had a feeling that might be true. But that's why I'd probably move the old save rather than delete it outright. I played through on Hard the first time, dammit! Even if I never play it again after getting all the stuff I'd still want Nightmare to be unlocked.
Right now, Alan Wake has joined Dead Rising in the category of 'games I liked and enjoyed but provide enough frustrating moments that wanting to play it again any time soon is almost unthinkable'. Going through again to specifically collect shit and missing three thermoses leaves a sour taste. I simply do not know where I missed them and do not look forward to combing the landscape looking for three motherfucking geegaws.
lol, I'm not attempting to browbeat or anything, and if my post came off like that I apologize.
I was just saying, everybody has opinions and if yours is different from others, they're going to say so... but how you express it is the "self-censoring" I'm referring to, I'm not saying not to say anything at all. there was a little bit of attack to what you said dude.
RDR's multiplayer is an open-pvp environment with multiple challenges that encourage killing players (which raises your outlaw level, iirc). the theme of the game is the wild west and outlaws. it's hard to call it griefing when it's mechanically rewarded, encouraged and within the theme of the game.
Downplaying the achievement to a person just being lucky given the above can also be considered an attack, as you're saying it wasn't earned. I just popped the guards in a town and maybe one dude that tried to claim my head before getting out of dodge. t4ct and his friends rolled it out in style. we both still earned it though.
fun on the other hand is entirely subjective, so yea. I dunno. I have no ill will toward you now because you didn't like it, and I hope you don't have any toward me either.

You can get the Most Wanted achievement in Friendly Free Roam which makes it a lot easier.
This is true, and it's how I got it. It's also true that if there are any other players on the server they will still come and try and kill you with dynamite or whatever. There is no stopping an asshole.
we got the achievement for wanted levels in RDR through teamwork and it was a blast getting it
I'd hate trying to get it just by filling a party and having people not bug me. That wouldn't be fun.
I'm already not interesting in getting it because it isn't fun. Filling a party and just hanging out isn't going to make it any worse.
The idea that a developer would make a gameplay feature that intentionally encourages griefing is mind-boggling. Ten minutes combined? Sounds reasonable. Ten minutes in a row? Might as well have one for winning 100 duels in a row and sucks for you if people keep quitting rather than lose.
It isn't griefing to be shot while you are WANTED. That's the way the game works. It's like complaining about an achievement for coming first in multiplayer when the other team is trying to win as well. It is a hard achievement, but it can be done in a reasonable game if you plan ahead. If you can be bothered is another thing entirely and there are LOTS of genuinely bullshit achievements that I will never do (like Star Oceans Battle Trophy Achievement - screw that shit). Wanted isn't that bad and anyone who claims someone else shooting them is "griefing" while they are doing it hasn't got a clue. They are playing the game as it was intended, which is the complete opposite of the meaning of the term "griefing".
I think that's why you got the reaction you did to your point: Not that anyone was upset you didn't want to bother with the achievement, but that you described people directly trying to shoot "wanted" players as griefing. The inherent disagreement for me is in ever using the term griefing in the first place.
Edit: I am totally up for ACB this weekend though.

I have 99/100 Thermoses in Alan Wake. I have been through that fucking game three times, twice with different Thermos location guides, trying to find the last one.
It's not fucking there. There are 99 Thermoses and there are no more.

I'm beginning to think that myself. I've watched video guides and looked at screenshots of every thermos and I feel like I visited all of those locations. I have a feeling the missing one is in one of those bullshit parts where the screen gets all shadowy and the enemies continually spawn, and it would be almost impossible to find in Nightmare mode.
I should have left the thermoses alone for a dedicated collectible run. That's what I've always done in games like GTA and it always works out well for me. Oh well.
The Alan Wake DLC achievements for not dying were stressful for me, especially the second one where they decided to put some sweet ass platforming into a slow-moving third-person survival game.
Well, if we can't get enough interest, all we can really do is just form a party and leave it to chance. Which is fine. But without interest, it's pretty boring.
Well, I'm going to try and play some tomorrow, anyway. If everybody who is interested wants to wait for you, that's fine. If I'm not doing anything else then, I'll join. But I'll probably be looking for something more in the early afternoon. Between say 12-4 Pacific.
Invite me Santa for ACB. If we got a group of 4 we can get good exp in that one gametype(I forget the name but it's team vs team), unless of course you know of a better way to get exp.
Can someone clarify something for me about 360 achievements?
So I have Batman AA: GOTY on Steam, which happens to be GFWL. Anyway, in my Live games list, it shows up with the achievements I have. What I want to know, does Live differentiate the games for different systems? I.E. if I got the game on the 360, would it be listed as a seperate game and thus have all new achievements? Or would it just be combined? I guess my question relates to, say, Fallout 3 too. I have beaten the shit out of it and (now) NV (until LR comes out) and while I have some interest in picking them up on Steam this week when they go on sale (I know NV isn't GFWL), I really don't want Fallout 3 to show up twice on my games list with clear achievements. I like it nice and complete where I left it.
I've had it sitting on my Xbox uncompleted for an age now - it just didn't gel with me back when I bought it - but after polishing off Shadow Complex I decided that a bit more of the same would suit me just fine and SotN was there to help.
This time round I was able to get into it and enjoy it. It's definitely a great game, though I'm glad I had some maps handy and damn if the Richter run wasn't teeth-grindingly frustrating in places. You really do miss Alucard's ability to double jump and transform into a bat.
For those interested in ACB, I've got a few errands to run. But after that (and lunch), I'll be trying to play a little bit. Say in about an hour from now. Send a XBL message to Carnival Man to get invited to the party.
We're setting up an Annual campaign run in Halo 3 at the moment. Samir Duran Duran was supposed to be here, but he's not shown up yet. If anyone else wants to take his place, send a message to Willeth on Live.
EDIT: Scratch that, he's here.

At some point, when we clear up the confusion, we can probably also add challenges to the list of things to grind. At least for people who want and don't have better attacks.
Any peeps in here have Worms (the first one)? I started playing this last night out of boredom and didn't realize how easy the achievements were. However, the four player Live game might be difficult since no one is playing this game anymore. In case anyone needs it or is feeling generous, let me know so we can set up something at some point.
Edit: I also just got the achievement, but I'm down to help others. Just like the old days, it's better to make a game than to look for one since everyone else is doing just that.
Cleared DWG3, and pulled DW6 out of the deep to try and finish that off. Trying to get over 90% of my possible gamerscore before I start popping new games in again.

I would prefer to clear up ACB, but have no problem with playing something else in the meantime as we try to re-gather interest.

Goddamn the truth puzzles are just as obtuse as the last game. Fuck the code wheel ones. The chess ones are pretty good though.

A couple got Extreme Variety. Some others got an achievement or two. When we finally got six, Alliance worked decently to boost points.
