I do have a lifetime sub to LOTRO, but they put out a lot of content, so when I get bored I just take a break come back and there's a ton of stuff to do.
And Saints Row 2 was awesome, it makes me laugh that gta can't get fucking third person aiming right at all, but saints row has done it twice no problem.

The worst game I paid money for was Magna Carta for the PS2.
I bought it because I wanted to play a JRPG and the box art was nice.
Boy howdy, did I learn my lesson. Never buy a game blind based on box art.
What a lousy game.
The game was $70 dollars at GameStop, too.
It was actually a KRPG as in Korean. It's one of those games I bought but haven't gotten around to actuly playing it yet. I will say that Kim Tae Hyung's Artwork is awesome.

Someone's mentioned Mercenaries 2, right? Because man ... Mercenaries 2
I remember having mercenaries 2 and can't remember why I traded it in. Even to this day, I just assume it was so horrible that I blocked it out of my mind.

I could see being disappointed in TFU because it has a pretty awkward control scheme, some of the boss battles feel rather contrived, and generally it's just not on par with Lucasarts' past efforts
Generally though I thought it was mediocre at worst. There are some pretty entertaining moments in that one, and I felt it was worth the $20 I paid for it.
But, that's all kind of moot since it was somebody else's really disappointing game and not, say, mine.
...
Oh, I thought of another game that bothers me. Bioshock. I think the atmosphere is fantastic, but I'm quite a few hours in and it's pretty much a constant struggle to stay alive, and I never ever have enough money or bullets or guns. I'm starting to encounter those really nasty enemies too, like the teleporting fire-shooty guys. The complete lack of any meaningful progression at this point is really annoying the hell out of me. Every time I walk away from it I find myself pretty frustrated.
Risk on the PC disappointed me. Probably because I didn't consider that (like almost anyone) we played with house rules with the board game. Also the whole 'disease' thing got annoying fast.
Fable 2, because it seemed to force me to go in all three directions for the talents (skill, strength, and will) instead of letting me choose a playstyle to beat the game with (something Fable 1 did just fine).
FFXIII. I didn't spend the 30 hours to beat the tutorial.
Kane and Lynch, because the only split screen option was a vertical split, which I vehemently oppose for a FPS (hint: enemies are more likely to appear to my left and right than above or below me). It's really saying something positive about Army of Two: 40th Day when I've tolerated the vertical split so well with that game.
GTA4, hard to put my finger on this one. I think the 'social' thing annoyed me, and the story didn't grab me very well early on.

This'll start to fix itself soonish, Arcadia is kind of long though.

Yeah my understanding is that the PC's power level ramps up pretty rapidly soon. It's a matter of getting there though.
For instance, I wasted so much time killing this one Big Daddy, and the sonofabitch didn't even have a Little Sister with him. If you don't have Adam for me, I'm not interested!

The instruction manual was full of character art and was by far the best thing about the game. The outfits are outlandish, but not utterly ridiculous. They're actually more low-key than many Guilty Gear characters.
I didn't get too far into the game, to be honest. The voice acting was poor, and there was no choice to just have subs and the original actors (if they existed - I'm not sure if the game was released in Asia and then ported to the NA and PAL regions). The combat system was convoluted and not very fun. I stuck the game in a drawer and haven't looked at it since.
And I didn't know that it was Korean. Good to know.
Yeah, GTA4 is definitely a big let down. The fucking social interaction was by far the most mind-numbingly annoying aspect of that game. Like, jesus fucking christ, I fucking don't want to deal with your shit! I helped you, that's it, stop texting me about pool or bowling!
That and the realism/fucking brown and bloom made it bland. I loved GTA3 and Liberty City because it looked vibrant and fun. This was too serious.
I forgot about Doom 3 because I forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me about that shitter.
GTA 4, seriously. I just couldn't empathize with Nico... he's supposedly all tortured and conflicted about his violent past, yet he dives back into busting heads without thinking twice.
Oh, and while much of the world was so serious, the "humor" was really fucking juvenile. The Internet cafe is called "[email protected]," hurr hurr hurr.

Spore is easily the most disappointing game of the decade for me, if not my entire life. It's the one game I regret buying to this day because there was nothing redeemable about it from gameplay to DRM to anything. I would have been happier just owning the creature creator and making funny creatures instead of wasting money on this thing. That and I convinced my fiancee to buy it too and it wouldn't even run on our computers initially.

It is, I suggest you buy the art book instead. Costs about the same and looks better.
Spore is definitely the biggest disappointment for me. It sounded so cool at first...and even before launch it still looked like it'd be awesome...but no.
Dungeon Siege was a complete let down. I got it with the same friends I went through Diablo and Darkstone with, but it suffered from two crippling problems.
First, it was impossible to complete without either VERY specific character builds (and power levelling), or a full party. So you want to play this action RPG with your friends? I hope you've got a whole bunch of them and they've got a whole lot of time on their hands.
Second, it was a screensaver. You didn't actually have to input anything except for pots most of the time, and if you could set your characters to auto-level and give them unlimited aggro they would play through the whole game without you having to even be there.
Dungeon Siege 2 was better, but you still needed a good sized party past the middle of act 2. That never clicked for me.

Like I said above, even at the PAX presentation it looked like it was more than it was. Which made me even more mad and disappointed.

The biggest disappointment of my life was Pac Man for the atari 2600. It wasn't nearly as good as the arcade. I mean, shit, he couldn't even face up or down. And his mouth never stopped. And instead of going "wakawakawaka" he just made this "brmp" noise. God I was one pissed of six year old after seeing that.

If we're going to compare poor arcade ports, I think Killer Instinct wins in that department. That commercial seriously couldn't of been farther from the truth.
Did anyone here get burned by Rise of the Robots? I couldn't afford to buy games at that time, but man, with as much hype as the game had before release it must've been crushing for those that paid for it.
But I actually enjoyed Superman 64, so I don't think I count.

If we're going to talk about fighting game arcade ports then I'll go straight to Soul Calibur 3: Arcade Edition.
Soul Calibur 3, released on the PS2, was a commercial and critical success, but a complete and total competitive flop. The Soul Calibur community has never recovered. A PAL version was released with minor balance tweaks, and then an arcade release months and months later with wonderful balance changes and and 3 new characters. By then it was too little and definitely too late. This is exactly the reverse of how you're supposed to release fighting games, and none before or since has been handled so poorly.
For reference, Soul Calibur 2, which was the most successful competitive version, was at version D in the arcades before it got a console port. Version B was totally broken, version C had some glaring flaws, and version D, which became the console version, was acceptable. With a well balanced version of the game widely available for PS2 the tourney scene thrived.
It's like Namco looked at that success and decided that Tekken was more important and their fans could suck it. Which I suppose is what they do with most of their games.
Well, just think of all the stuff that Namco gave us with Soulcalibur 4!
Like, uh....Yoda! No, wait...destructible clothing! No, wait...a boob slider! How about small, polygonal stages with instant KO at the edges? Very half-assed tag team play? Almost naked Ivy?
Well, it's a really pretty game.
(If you can't tell, I was rather let down by the lack of actual tag team play in SC4.)
But I actually enjoyed Superman 64, so I don't think I count.

I dunno. I got it for free as a birthday present from a friend. That might have helped.
