Thanks for all the wristband info, BigRed. I appreciate you taking the time to put that together! I'm thrilled to have a better way to get my Saturday wristband. <3

Also - WIN on the streaming of the concert content. :D I may hang out to see the Minibosses on Friday, I don't want to see the other groups very much so I just wasn't going to go at all. This is a nice solution that won't take a seat away from someone who really does want to go.

On coolers - last year I had a small one with me and nobody batted an eye. Is this more of a "don't be a dick" sort of rule? Or is the WSTCC going to put the smackdown on my lunchbox? I can deal either way - we've got a hotel room at the Sheraton this year so I can keep my food there (told husband he wasn't Enforcing this year unless we got a room and boarded the dogs so I wasn't screwed out of seeing the concert).

As far as the BYOC only things, There will be an email that goes out to everyone signed up for BYOC with a summary of some of the things we are doing. Can also post it in this thread.

Aye, I was thinking more in terms of BYOC as I remember from last year the LAN room and the BYOC room can't really play each other in a few games.
If you could update this thread when you know that would be excellent. I'l keep checking my email and the lanfest website all the same though. Can't wait!

If we see any shares with porn they will be tracked down and told to turn it off. There are under 18 attendees there.
    Dont be a dick :P

No you dont have to pay extra for internet but it will be heavily throttled per user and lots of ports will be locked down.

WOW uses very little actual bandwidth vs torrenting or file sharing. you'll be fine I'm sure.

Yeah, I have played WoW some in previous years, the wired connections are plenty fine. The wireless connections are of course super saturated so make sure and plug in.

We need a poster explaining how to do it right and how to do it wrong.

Though I do understand the people who go to BYOC without a gaming computer. BYOC is an awesome place to hang out and meet people is a great place to have to go to, relax, and leave some swag. I've seen plenty of people bring a netbook or a really old laptop and just use it to surf the net and check email because it gives them a place to go and do all that other stuff.

Sorry if this has already been addressed, but LanFest isn't letting me pay for my registration anymore. I couldn't pay for it two days ago when I registered, and now it says "PayPal payments are not enabled for this event." Does that mean it's closed? It said there were 225 slots left two days ago, so I'm really hoping that's not the case. :P

    "Contests & Tournaments

I leave for the US in a few days time, would be really good to know what the BYOC tournaments are before I leave so I can get the games installed in time.

Not sure how decisions are made on the settings for the official dedicated servers, but I'd like to respectfully raise the issue that in previous years the settings for the dedicated TF2 servers were strange. There were no payload maps in rotation even though it's by far the most common gametype (not to mention arguably the most accessible to those who are new to the game, which applies to many on the non-byoc side), the round times & win conditions were messed up causing lots of rounds to end at unpredictable/strange times, and in what I consider the most destructive decision, *all* of the servers had 'alltalk' enabled which kills team cooperation and strategizing (which to me normally results in the better kind of socializing and actually getting to connect with the people you're playing with, versus people just bs'ing with the loudest people taking over while the game degenerates into a DM/spamfest).

Seeing that over half of the dedicated servers go unused anyway, I think the players should have a choice of some servers that actually have payload maps and particularly with 'alltalk' OFF (please, for the love of all that is holy). This is, after all, how Valve designed/intended it, which if it not the standard at PAX, should at least have *some* representation/availability.

    Most sincerely,
    -DR

First time BYOC here. Leading up to this I spent way to much on Steam for various games to play during. TF2, L4D2, Borderlands, LAG, almost anything affordable and multiplayer. Still being new to some of them, any recommendations on servers or such to learn the games, like TF2, where I won't be treated like the noob that I am? Any help appreciated.

For TF2, I highly recommend checking out the various class "how to" videos on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=tf2+how+to+play

If its online then no dont host any servers (remember that bandwidth is split with 900+ machines).

If its on LAN then by all means do so.

I'm assuming closed means full, or are they just closing it this early for no apparent reason? I was still waiting on this sketchy pass hookup we might have had to come through.

Was through a freind who said his group bought a bunch and a bunch of people didn't pay, so there might be some available. No big deal, we both are rocking lappys this year, so not byoc'ing is less of a big deal, but it will suck to not be in there, since i've been in the last 4 and my buddy the last 5. Not having a job or a place to stay was the reason we left it late.

One time I was in the Apple store getting my wife's iPhone replaced and overheard the following:

Customer: "OK thank you for getting it to work finally! Can I get one of those AppleCare plans?"
Apple Clerk: "Yes, you can even purchase one in the store if you'd like."
Customer: "And it will cover my iPhone if I drop it in soup again?"
Apple Clerk: "Um, what? You said when you came in that you didn't know what happened to make the phone stop working..."
Customer: "Oh, uhhh. So can I get that warranty?"
Apple Clerk: "No, now that we know what caused the damage in the first place your phone isn't covered under any warranty."
Customer: "What? Why wouldn't it be??"
Apple Clerk: "Soup is not a manufacturer defect or normal wear and tear."

There was just under 400 Last year.

Right now we are hovering around 450. The attendee list on the site isn't entirely accurate because the 2x seat option isn't reflected on the list by listing people twice (lanfest is aware of the bug but couldn't fix it for this PAX)

meh its not like i play shooters anyways, i just love the older game or byoc activities, which were severely lacking imo last year, which is why I didn't buy a ticket when my place to stay was supposed to be in spain. If the sketchy last minute plan somehow does pan out, i guess i'll just fight you from the hallways until we get somebody elses spot :P

You are not able to transfer BYOC tickets. You can only use it or get a refund from intel.

This looks to be a trend...

As soon as I sent that last message I got the email, heh.

    So...
We will have BYOC ticket sales at the door of PAX. This is for people already with access to PAX. SO if you dont have a PAX Pass then you wont be able to purchase one. (Cant get into BYOC without being able to get into PAX first :P)
    Limited availability and all that.

BYOC only gets in 2h early on friday (to setup your stuff).
PAX Registration (where you will have to purchase a BYOC seat day of if you are going that route) is open on Thursday.
