So is there anybody out there who's seen the RDR ad before Iron Man 2? I'm seeing it tomorrow, and I just want to know if I should start preparing myself for the disappointment of not seeing anything RDR related beforehand.
Yes, I will consider Iron Man 2 disappointing if I don't get my cowboy video game commercial beforehand. That's how bad it's gotten.
Krusty: Hey, kids! It's story time. [laughs] I'm going to tell you the story of Krusty's expensive new suit: his sexual harassment suit. [laughs painfully] Boy. Anyway, as part of Krusty's plea bargain, he has a new court-ordered sidekick, Ms. No-Means-No. [to her] Whoa! You're hot. Let's get some dinner after the show. [she blows a whistle and holds up a stop sign with "NO" on it] I have dinner with all my employees, right, Sideshow Mel?
Mel: We've never spoken outside of work.
Krusty: [laughs, then sighs] Oh...
Bart: [watching] I'm surprised he doesn't try to blame his problems on his Percodan addiction.
Krusty: It wasn't my fault, it was the Percodan. If you ask me, that stuff rots your brain. And now a word from our new sponsor...Percodan?! Aw, crap!
.....What the fuck does that have to do with RdR, the western genre, or even videogames? You is taking some drugs.
No, my WIFE thinks it'll keep my mind off of it. She doesn't know about the commercial, and I'm fully expecting an "Oh, for fuck's sake" when she sees the ad.
I think the extra $6 is worth it for release day delivery. I mean, I'd probably be fine with the free shipping if the estimated arrival time wasn't when Alpha Protocol was coming out.
I'd rather have something to play while waiting for Alpha Protocol.
The hardest part of the next 10 days of waiting will be the inevitable street date break. That's always unbearable, especially on big titles.
I hereby swear to think angry thoughts at anyone playing RDR before the 18th.
That GTTV thing was pure evil, by the way. Here I thought I could temper my hype for the next week and a half, but noooooo.
And that cutscene was sublime. It's obvious what effects great voice acting can have on a scene, and after playing through Heavy Rain (with it's stilted acting), seeing that RDR cutscene was like a breath of glorious fresh air.

Experience has been that using super saver on preorders generally gets the game here within a day of release anyway, actually.
Although, sometimes they use Ontrac to try and get it to me same day, which annoys the hell out of me since the Ontrac guy can't get into my building and I need to take time off to wait for the stupid package. So in those instances, I'd actually prefer them using UPS or something and shipping it slower.

You're not actually interested in Iron Man 2 are you? You tricksy hobbit.
What I REALLY loved (since I've done voice acting in games myself and appreciate professionalism), is that the V.O. for the Marshal actually put a cigar (or, more likely, a pen) in his mouth during the lines that the Marshal has a cigar in his mouth. It means that they were taking great care in blocking those cutscenes, were taking their time with the voice actors to make sure they understood both the setting and the context, and wanted authenticity. They didn't just have the guy spit out lines for as little time as possible so they could keep it cheap.

Yeah, it really, really makes a difference.
And it sounds odd, but they kept in all the breathing sounds. Whenever the marshall exhaled the smoke through his nostrils it was a completely believable.
I wouldn't be surprised if he actually smoked whilst recording it, it was that good.
I wonder if they're doing the Uncharted thing of performance capture, or mo-capping the actors acting out the scenes and recording the dialogue at the same time.

I hope this game does something better then EOLC: Control. Its horrid sometimes. I look at some cover, I press the right bumper, and it takes me to some closer cover, even though I'm only a foot away from cover. Also, its unresponsive in multiplayer when I want to get in a car with a friend. It also takes the character 10 seconds just to get on the other side and ride in the passenger seat, cant this dumbass RUN?Also, in LAD, there was this one time where I wanted to get on Johhnies motorcycle, and there was a van, and another car in the way. Pointed at the motorcycle, and it sends me to the van. other then cover issues and the car stuff, the game is really good. I guess I wouldnt have the since horses are bigger.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm paying money to see an awesome commercial, and then I get a free screening of Iron Man 2 afterwards.
I've been wanting a good western game since the NES where Capcom made a cowboy game where you were always moving forward, you could shoot up at angles or straight ahead, you could even get a horse who was basically extra hits for you. I loved that game.
This one does look good as well, saw the footage on the TV the other night and going to wait and see how people review this considering all the shit behind the scenes I heard that's been going on. Still the game does look good, I only wish that so called video game journalist didn't have his tongue up Rockstars ass, ah well everyone knows that video game journalist is just another word for video game PR.

I don't think I would buy this game on reviews, especially since they have videos explaining how the gameplay will work. I think all games need that. Also, a little bit off topic, I'm playing that flash mario crossover game, and I noticed how all the music was really good back in the nes days. I really hope that the music from RDR will be used in battles. Usually I hear gunshots in the backround for a backround music type setting, but the music I've heard sounds awsome. Hope they don't let it go to waste.

Sounds like you're referring to Gunsmoke, which is a classic and was a large part of my youth. I should get back in to that game...
Luckily it looks like RDR will give it stiff competition, as it has everything Gunsmoke had, but more!

They were pimping the composer for a while, so hopefully it's actually good.
The last soundtrack I can remember being super important was the first Uncharted, as the music was the sign the battle sequence was over

That's it then! I was thinking Gunsmoke but wasn't sure if I was getting confused with a TV or movie with the same name or not. Damn I wish they had that out on one of the systems to download.
And yeah as for Red Dead Redemption it's the people on such forums like this I want to see the opinion of. I don't trust Rockstars bribing and heavy handed dealings with actual game reviews to trust them on what they say, one only needs to look at the circus that was GTA 4 to see why. I did like GTA 4 though.
Yeah but all the stuff that was annoying about GTA4 seems like it'd be gone in this game (car chases that don't allow you to kill your target until you cross a threshold)

Speaking of old games, I remember this old west game in an arcade, it was a 3d platformer, and it was a little bit like contra, but I think you could also grab things and throw it at people. I might have to go back to the move theater to see what it is.
To be fair, it's less bribery and more mutual back-scratching when it comes to reviews. Rockstar allows a company the publicity of getting an early review of their super-popular game that everyone's frothing at the mouth at. That's TONS of revenue right there for any publication, and Rockstar doesn't even have to be like "Give us a good review or else", the magazine itself knows that if they slag off Rockstar in their review, they miss out on the next huge game exclusive.

Yeah I do love his moments where he's all flared-out

the ad itself was kinda meh
but the free movie afterward was pretty good
And to think my poor wife thinks this will be a nice relaxing break from me frothing at the mouth for this game.
Goddamnit.

But I chose the free shipping option from Amazon.
I figure by the time it gets here I'll have beaten Alan Wake?

You'd think this would be standard practice these days, but no
Everyone just shows cinematics and quick-cut trailers so you can't see shit and don't know nothin'
It's really irritating
