PSA: The [Humble Bundle]: 5 great indie games for X$ and help out Child's Play

So I stumbled across this article at Ars Technica.
Apparently the makers of such indie gems as World of Goo, Gish, and Penumbra Overture got together and created a 5 pack of games you can buy from them for X$. Where X = any value greater than 0.
You may recall 2D Boy did a similar thing, twice, for World of Goo.

The games are DRM free, available for Linux, Mac, and Windows, and the kicker?
You have the option of directing some or even all of what you pay them for the games to Child's Play or the EFF.
You can pay then 10$ for the bundle and say 5$ of that goes to Child's Play. Or you can pay 5$ and say all of it goes to Child's Play and the EFF.
The bundle can be purchased here.

edit: The games in the bundle are World of Goo, Gish, Aquaria, Lagaru, and Penumbra Overture. Also I forgot to check if I needed mod permission for this. Hopefully since Child's Play is involved they'll be merciful if I should have.

I was just wondering if this had been posted.

I'll probably be buying it even if I don't intend to play many of them just to support this type of relationship some companies try to have with their userbase.

I was coming here to find somewhere to post this. It's made the front page of Reddit and they've already made a ton of money. Aquaria is one of my all time favourite games, and it's worth it for that alone (although World of Goo is pretty great if that's your thing). Penumbra is apparently terrifying, and Lugaru is kind of fun.

You can also pay a penny, and I hear any insultingly low amount gets you a pretty funny .jpeg about the sad state of indy development.

Anything under a buck or so isn't even going to handle the transaction cost, so don't be that guy.

Tried $0 (partially because I'm broke and partially because I wanted to redownload Aquaria for my new computer without having to email the developer and wait for weeks for the files again) and got the jpeg. No games though.

I'm really broke at the moment, but I'll skip a couple of days worth of meals and just give them 10/15€. I already have most of the games.

I've got all the games on this list that my pc can play, but I've been looking for an excuse to gift my brother WoG. He'll probably enjoy Penumbra too, but I don't think he can get past the mermaid thing for Aquaria (unfortunately, since it's pretty great).

I got Gish in a bundle once and tried it briefly. Interesting concept, but for me it ranged from boring to frustrating with very little difficulty ranging in the middle.

I tweeted this to Tycho on Tuesday, probably along with hundreds of other people over the past few days - I can't believe they haven't blogged about it yet. It needs more publicity. It is an awesome thing and more indie devs should do this.

Gish has a learning curve, and some annoying mechanics (like needing to squish yourself down, then up to jump. It just feels unnecessarily fiddly), but if you persevere then by the end of the game you're doing some truly amazing stuff and marveling at yourself over how you're doing all this shit, just with the basic physics engine.

That said, despite already owning some of the games I just rebought them all with the pack. <3

I already have World of Goo from a MacHeist bundle a few years back, and I dunno if I am even interested in the other titles but I'm tempted to do this just for the hell of it.

Bought this because I needed games on my new MacBook Pro and it was an awesome cause. Feel, in hindsight, kind of shitty for not giving enough (Not an insulting amount, but far less than I should have). Might buy another gift copy and send it off to someone.

Already have WoG on Wii but as Penumbra and Aquaria have been blipping on my radar for a while so I happily dropped $15 on this.

That 3d rabbit fighting game looks pretty terrible from the screenshots, though I'm willing to be proved wrong by someone who has actually played it.

Handy Youtube vid of the games you get:

If any fools haven't yet got World of Goo then I swear that that alone is worth your time and random amount of money.

Well, the thing to keep in mind with Lugaru was that it was developed by one guy 5 years ago. So, the art assets are primitive at best and production values aren't exactly high. It's a decent action game if you can get past the steep learning curve, with some rather unique fighting/brawling mechanics.
If a game with somewhat unique and complex fighting mechanics appeals give it a spin, otherwise you'll probably not enjoy it, as the story is really only there as an excuse for why you're beating up wolves and rabbits.

I donated 15 bucks but I'm sad to find that neither of the games work on my EeePC running Linux. :(

They've just sweetend the deal by adding Samarost 2 to the bundle. You know, that cute little flash point and click puzzler with the tiny dude on the photorealistic junk planets. You've probably played the first free one at some time.

I already own 2 of the games so I only paid $5, am I a cheap bastard? Then they added Samorost to make me feel even more guilty.

Eh, I bought this. I am not particularly drawn to the games offered, and I already own the ones I am at all interested in. Hence, I don't really feel bad for paying just ten bucks, since it's more of a donation than actually purchasing a product below the price it deserves IMO.

You could always buy it again as a gift for someone. ;-)

Also, awesomecakes on also getting Samorost 2 in the mix. Seems to be a thing when Wolfire is involved, I preordered Overgrowth a year ago and got Natural Selection 2 for free once that bundle went on offer.

    Just so everyone knows:
The Humble Indie Bundle experiment has been a massive success beyond our craziest expectations. So far, in just over 7 days, 119,071 generous contributors have put down an incredible $1,084,000. Of this, contributors chose to allocate 30.96% to charity: $335,576 for the Electronic Frontier Foundation and Child's Play Charity...

Now it's our turn to give back. As of 5/11/10, Aquaria, Gish, Lugaru HD, and Penumbra Overture pledge to go open source. We are preparing the sources right now and will be releasing them ASAP. We spent last night preparing Lugaru and it is available now.

The bundle's still on sale for another four days or so, if you want to help out!

Sorry for necro-ing the thread, but now your games can be activated on Steam. And apparently they're going to have Humble Indie Bundle #2 this holiday...
