Cybernator and Metal Warriors are a must if you have a need for some mech action.

Nthing Flashback and R-Type III. The latter is notable for being easier than a lot of its contemporaries, meaning you actually have a chance of beating it.
Umihara Kawase is an import and a bit pricy, but is a very unique and difficult puzzle-platformer and quite fun once you get into it.

Bahamut Lagoon. Fun tactical RPG that was only released in Japan. You can occasionally find translated ROMs though. I loved training/raising my dragons until they were super powerful (though I recall the last dungeon still being challenging).

OP needs to check out the web series Happy Video Game Nerd. It's all about lesser known or lesser appreciated titles from the past, and he's got quite a few episodes about SNES titles.

It's a shooter, but Axelay is hard to find and it's simply wonderful.

I don't know you, Zombie, but I sense a kindred spirit.

Death and Return of Superman was awesome.

Great sidescrolling beat'em up. Made by Blizzard nonetheless.

I liked Super Castlevania a lot, but I don't think it's that rare.

And dame you Brits for having Terranigma; that game is so good, but I can't buy it in the States for my SNES :(

    Tales of Phantasia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tales_of_Phantasia
    Contra III

The first is one of the best RPGs I've ever played. It's easily in the same class as the big three (FFIII, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana), but you don't hear much of it because it needed to be translated. Great game.

Contra III is badass, but I don't know how rare it is.

Edit: Contra III is not an RPG, but if Zombies is on there, Contra should be too.

Ha, I thought I was one of the only people that liked watching his videos, he's a nice flip side to James Rolfe's coin. :^:

I'll second Twisted Tales of Spike McFang and Blackthorne. (It's Prince of Persia, with shotguns, made by Blizzard. Hard to top that.)
