I'm a bit underwhelmed by Rathian+ armor. It has -13 points of Protection, 8 points of Earplugs, and only 7 slots. This means you accumulate -15 points of Protection if you jewel up 2 more points of Earplugs, and this takes 3 Asylum Jewels (+2 protection) to bring down to -9. This leaves you with only 2 slots to play with. Along with a +4 Perception Charm that I have and a single weapon slot, I am able to get Tranq Guru, but only just barely.
I'm wondering if there's a mix and match that will serve me better, so I can free up my Charm slot. I think I may just mix some Rathian and Rathian+ together.
7 Big Game Hunter quests later (stupid 35% drop rate on King's Frills) and my Rhenoplos armor set is complete. Immune to muddy/snowman, wind resistance, 20 fire resistance, auto-guard...I'm going to enjoy this set of armor with the small caveat that I'm not entirely sure how I feel about looking like a giant pink teddy bear.
Now to dread doing all that over again for 3 more King's Frills for my weapon upgrade.
You seriously should be doing the online event quest, in which you kill four Great Jaggi in a row, and get massive bonuses and a unique component for a Fortune-boosting helm.
Or do you not have your Wii online? If not, my sympathy.
Edit: You just said that you're trying out online, so good. Go Jump Four Jaggi over and over until you've gotten at least 8 Jaggi Heads. That ought to solve your King's Frill issue quite nicely.
Well just found out that you cannot just pound Jhens leg and expect to kill him. Apparently you need to break his back too. We just lost to him trying to see how far we could take killing his leg.
so the few matches I tested my peco+ set got rave reviews from the team.
things that work with wide-range +2:
herbs
potions
antidotes
all seeds (might/armor, all resist types)
I used a SNS and while I didn't really fight (4 people wailing melee on a mob = me knocked back all the time anyways), I would use a potino anytime someone got hurt and heal them right up. every map change I'd ask for potions to fill up on stock. they keep fighting and I keep healing. sometimes I'd use a might seed and buff them as well. if I ran out of pots mid map, i would make more with herbs and blue mushrooms, or just use the herbs.

uh, breaking the back/tusks/legs don't help kill him; they're just for carves. yes they help do damage, but you can do damage anywhere. i'm sure you can win with pure cannon/ballista damage.

I seem to have slowed my progress quite a tad online due to a lack of similar rank hunters to go murdering with. I'm on to 3*s but finding groups in HR late teens/low twenties isn't so easy. I'm sure they could be found if I spent some time looking but it's certainly not so easy to jump on for a quick hunt before dinner anymore.
Plenty of people lower (I've killed soooo many Barroths now) and quite a few higher but feeling a bit lonely in the middle.
I apparently have no idea how to block. Me and the lance are not a good pair. I game overed twice in a row on Great Jaggi in the arena trying to get a feel for the damn thing tonight. He'd back up to charge, I'd square up and hold that block button down and just get wrecked somehow 50 percent of the time.
I have no idea how the guy in the video just casually rolls into a guard with his shoulder to the monster only to block and immediatly counter into a three-hit combo. I always either took full damage or missed the counter entirely. Gah. Frustrated.

Heh, you shouldn't be having trouble finding people to hunt with. Worst case, there's the first server, which is usually fully loaded.
Rank 12 here..
Not been able to be online much this week due to work and rl stuffs.
Was on for a couple of hours yesterday and played with someone (sorry forgot your name).
Failed twice on G. Baggi and once on Rath :P after which we regained our pride by doing some easy massacer 20 something quests.
But other then that I saw no one all night on EU.
Will try again tonight, need that rank!
FINALLY got my tusk lance+!!! This thing is awesome and the best weapon you can have right now for several bosses. 40% affinity is sweet. I still need more amber tusks to complete my Barioth armor set, but the two pieces I have + Lagi = Evasion +2 already so I'm not that worried. I do need to shore up my Fire Resistance a bit with this set.
Now I can try to move on to Agnaktor to get my guard armor set too and see which I prefer.
After midnight tomorrow and Friday night I should be able to help anyone who needs help with ** quests online. I still need Lagi stuff for my eventual Amplitude lance. :P
Having discovered this Loc Lac armour on the Wiki I feel I should be all over making some of that for transport missions.
You apparently need to poison the ants in order to carve bits from them so what's an easy way to do that?
Bomb Material+Toadstool is poison bomb. Get in the middle of several ants, throw it at you feet, run circles while they suffer a horrible death, and then carve their entrails.
In other news, I actually managed to find a couple randoms willing to play ** quests, so I got a Gobul and a GBaggi. All Key Missions done now - I just need to raise my HR three or four levels to see the urgent. Sigh.
How the heck did you manage to fail on a Great Baggi?
I donno!
Everything that could go wrong went wrong basicly, sleep attacks from his little buddies, sleep hits from him. Surprice rape by Gigginox happend as well.
I managed to solo him after in online, just took a while, but there's a definate diffrence if you are two people who is new to this game, fighting something ment for four people.
Not all of us has been playing for ages you know

Baggi was a bitch the first time my friend and I fought him two man. With all of his sleep attacks and slightly faster movments compaired to jaggi we got beat. Second time we won but it took forever seemed every time either of us got some momentum going to take him down he would run away to another area. Didn't have and suprise gigginox visits but was a pain for sure.

Got myself the Jaggi blademaster and Baggi gunner armors yesterday
Why I kept using the Hunter armor for as long as I did I'll never know, though I guess it's because of Psychic, which ain't that big a deal if you know where monsters like to head when they're low on health

Hmmm, trying to plot an easy way to kill Gobul. Can you fish him out multiple times on the same run? If so this is going to be one very dead Gobul.

Psychic is kinda handy but offline can be replaced with Bunny Mask Cha-Cha and online with more of you sweeping the map you rarely lose any monster for long.

Once you know where monsters like to go you don't really need it/bring paint balls. Though you can still have moments where the paintball wears off and you didn't notice...

Can't fish him more then once as far as I know.
An easy way to do it is to bring one pitfall trap, one shock trap, and mats for another shock trap.
Then before you fish him up, put down the pitfall trap, go fish him up, beat him up, run to trap, beat him up again.
This point he'll most likley flee to water, so sonic bomb him out of hidding, then put up a shock trap, beat him up.
Sonic bomb, trap, dead.
Also use a lance, makes it so much easier to poke him to death.

So I tried taking on Diablos last night in solo play. Here's how he compares to Unite Diablos.
1 - the end of his tail is armored now, which means, if you want to attack his tail, you have to attack it's underside, not the tip. Can the tail even be cut off? I attacked it tons and it never came off so, I'm not sure.
2 - his charges are easier to dodge now, he doesn't appear to track you anymore. As long as you're moving perpendicular to him, he can't hit you. In Unite, you kinda had to move towards him at an angle, and sometimes nosedive, to avoid a charging Diablos.
3- he's more heavily armored now, it seems. Not just the end of his tail, as previously mentioned, but his legs also seem to repel most attacks. You really need to be right under him to do damage.
He's just as easy to stun with a sonic bomb as he's always been and, when not in rage mode, you get plenty of time to nail him with it before he charges. In Unite, he would sometimes do an underground charge almost immediately after submerging, making timing much more difficult.
Otherwise, I didn't particularly find him that much different than his previous incarnation. His head being lower to the ground makes his horns and tail easier to hit, though it does make it harder to dodge his charges by ducking between his legs.
Basically, I don't see what the fuss is about, Diablos isn't all that scary. I find Uragan much more unpredictable and threatening.

By the way, what am I supposed to take with me into any given quest? Mega potions, whetstones, well-done steaks, and hot or cold drinks if necessary? What else? We seem to get paintballs from the supply chest if they're needed. Do people also bring basic potions along too?
In my Opinion...
Things you should bring* Every. Single. Quest.:
10 Potions
10 Mega Potions
10 Well-done Steaks
20 Whetstones (if your melee)
There is no way you should ever need 10 potions in addition to 10 Megas unless you're literally hunting a large monster solo, online, and you've never even seen him before. 10 steaks and 20 whetstones are also overkill, but it's 1 stack so I guess it doesn't matter.
I dunno I always try to carry 10 of both just to make sure I'm covered in case of a mistake movement, or just random accidents. As for steaks, I have some but I usually don't max them out, and I always go through 5 or 6 whetstones with my weapons right now, which urks me to no end.

I seem to do ok and I usually just bring either 10 Mega's or 10 Potions depending on what I am facing. Unless I've never faced it before, then I might bring both. I also never bring any steaks.
The two the quest gives me is usually enough. There has only been one time I've ever felt I could use another one.
I do always carry 20 stack of whetstones but mainly because I fill it up to 20 when it gets below 10.
I've never felt I've had a death due to lack of supplies, only lack of skill. Having enough potions to cure the world didn't help me when I misread Lagi and went down.

Not that I could tell. And I farmed Diablos/Monoblos A LOT in Unite.
Oh, I should add though that Tri Diablos has a sort of triple charge that he does now, where he'll charge, reajust, then charge again, three times in succession. Took me by surprise the first couple of times, but now that I know he does it, it no longer scares me. Just keep running perpendicularly and he can't hit you. After the third charge, he pauses for a bit, which is a good opening to get a few whacks in.
I hate when I misread something the game really makes you feel like a total dunce sometimes. Like for instance the Q bird's tail swing. I hadn't actually experienced in other fights for whatever reason but I was fighting him solo the other day and he wouldn't stop doing it and the first time I got smacked across the screen it felt like the game was just looking at me going "...dumbass"
I think Red Foreman had a lot to do with game design.

Generally I don't take well done steaks with me, I just carry the bbq pit and harvest raw meat whilst I'm hunting, and then make my steaks to order. :P
So I only just found out a few days ago that you could find out what an active skill does and how many points you need to trigger it by putting the cursor over it.
