So i finally have my new computer up, I'm posting from it even...

Problem... PC probe says my CPU is running at 81c

I don't know what to do, I've remounted the fan like 5 times, added thermal grease (arctic silver 5) and made sure that my fans were sucking and blowing in the right order... I'm scared dudes...

I'm IDLING at 81c

is your heat sink attached properly

    with lots of thermal pastes

you probably need more thermal pastes

for a temporary solution, peanut butter actually conducts heat well so you can use some of that if you are out of thermal paste

uh i think if it was actually at 81c it would not be running at all

i used to have overheating problems with a computer and it wouldnt run after 40 or 50 degrees or something
    nowhere near 81

    81 is crazy

see what happens if you leave it off overnight or something then quickly check the temp when you turn it on

also why not check what it says in the bios
i dont know what pc probe is

Yeah, i figured it would melt by about 70c so I'm rather confused...

also my CPU fan is running at pretty much top speed for it's little piece of shit motor (1739 rpm)

and my mobo is only at 30c

    I'm running a 6300 Core2 Duo and 2 gigs of ram at 667mhz... I didn't overclock or anything.

    These are fucking weird temps

Too much thermal paste can also cause overheating.

Put it in your bathtub and it'll make a perfect hottub. Overclock the cpu a lil to get it up to 100c and crank up the fans so they make nice jets. Then just hop in and enjoy bro.

alright i will actually be helpful

you don't want to use a lot of thermal grease, the most important thing is for it be be very evenly applied

apply it, smooth it with like the edge of a credit card, then attach heatsink

i doubt its the paste though

seriously at that temp, something should just melt or it should refuse to go at all

i would check your thermostaty thing first
