I got Platinum. I just beat the third gym leader and my six main Pokemon are at level 24. Is that at about the right level?
They gym leaders can be tough. They have one goddamn Pokemon that rapes me. The one with headbutt in the first one and the second ghost in the third one.
You are, eventually, going to find yourself slowly getting beneath the gym leader's level. You should remain on par with normal trainers (but not trainers in the gyms).
By the time you get to the Elite Four, the FIRST member will be nearly 10 levels over a few of your pokemon. It's their way of making the game harder.
My team currently consists of a machop, prinplup, staravia, budew, luxio, and kadabra. Staravia and budew are probably bad, but I'm keeping them damnit.
I just recently started up on Platinum again (Had to take a break from SS and realized I never got anywhere in my Platinum game)
I was shocked how much variety I had access to before even hitting the first trainer. I have a Psyduck, Ponyta, Shinx, Machop, Starly, and Turtwig.
And immediately after beating the first trainer I swapped out my Shinx for a Pachirisu. Water, Fire, Fighting, Normal, Grass, and Electric all right off the bat.

Staraptor is the best pokemon ever. He learns fantastic STAB moves and gets Intimidate. Roserade is good as well.
Luxray may disappoint you, as he lacks the high-power Physical attacks, but he's pretty solid regardless. I'd say your team is pretty damn potent all-around. Especially if that Machop gets No Guard.
Ponyta is pretty meh as well. Doesn't learn any great fire moves until way later. Rapidash can get Megahorn if you have a heart scale, so that might be worth it.
I had to walk to Subway to do it, but I got my Winner's Path! I'm thinking a Metagross would be really nice for the last couple of badges. I just want my Choice Band and maybe another pair of Specs for my Magmar.
well no the second gen starters sucked. Scizor: the face of a generation
you can go to hell- totodile is the best thing ever
on that note: i have my totodile from the beginning of the game and he is getting to be up there in levels. i sorta ev trained him- what i mean is I MAINLY fought krabby and poliwag (attack/speed) but really he was my fallback the entire game. He has a VERY good EV (+speed -SpDef) and I REALLY REALLY don't feel like raising another totodile to this level as my moveset for him is crunch/icepunch/superpower/waterfall
I know there are those ev-reducing berries, and I have the attack and health ones (not very helpful) but I guess my question is- how many berries does it take to reduce each EV down to zero? and where can I get the others?
also is my math right- with pokerus and the bracers getting...say 262 evs in something only takes 65 fights? and each vitamin increases that ev by 10?
so if I, say, give a pokemon five Protein, and it has pokerus and a bracer it means I need to fight 53 times instead of 65? (262-50/4)
Quick question. Has it ever been confirmed that trading often in the battle factory produces better pokemon at the beginning of the rounds?
Thats what strategy guides have said, but I posted that idea once a while ago and everyone thought it sounded ridiculous.
I don't think its been proven correct or false

Hmmm...one would think that switching LESS would produce better Pokemon...

It's true the Feraligatr family loves the physical special split
As to your post um wha!?
Here's some advice
Pokerus doubles EVs gained
So does the macho brace
4 ev points =1 extra stat point
The max EVs a stat can have is 255 but you always want 252 or you're wasting 3 points.
The EV vitamins are not effected by EV modifiers they always give a flat 10
You can only have 512 EV totals

I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.
I'm being lazy now and just slapping a Scarf on whatever pokemon curbstomps the gym leader. One exception being Sabrina as I wasn't too sure if Gengar could outspeed everything. I'm just going to burn Erica alive with my Magmar, however.
My Ursaring has replaced Raticate as Badass Gutsman. Attack is much higher though his nature is kinda bad (+SpA -Def). Should have held out for a +Spe one but I didn't feel like it. Gonna take him to work over the week and see how well he does when he has a couple pokewalker levels in him.
Pichu doesn't count; he's adorable and all but is really just a Pikachu offshoot.
Pre gen one the mascots kept switching before Pikachu and the anime took off. They had tried Rhydon, Jigglypuff, and Nidoran.
I read that Junichi Masuda, one of the game series' producers, said that they really put a lot of thought into Pichu's design when they were developing G/S. He says it's his favorite Pokémon.
Also, before Pikachu, the mascots were going to simply be the three starters. The reason they went with Pikachu for the anime was because they didn't want to alienate anybody that chose one of the three starters and make them feel that Charmander was better than Squirtle and so on because the anime's main character chose it. So instead, they went with a "fourth" starter.

Questions swirl.
There was some info on this in the Smogon Battle Frontier thread a while back. I am pretty sure that trading after each match will get you access to all-31 IV Pokemon sooner.
My question was twofold- how many berries does it take to reduce a given EV to zero, where do I GET the berries, and IF I have pokerus AND a bracer how many battles does it take to get an EV to 255? (the 262 was a typo/misremembering)

Staravia becomes Staraptor which is baddest of asses when it comes to Flying/Normal
Budew eventually becomes Roserade, which is good too

But my team will most likely change I just thought it was interesting how much variety I had access to so early.

like it is a blatant pikachu esque poke
and that's it?
Lucario worked out well this gen for mascot duty though. Second gen nothing took, and Plusle/Minun didn't really take third gen.
i think the trend is they need to be usable pokemon
lucario is really good; pachirisu and plusle/minun are all really lackluster even for the story mode

Kangaskhan will always hold a place in my heart as the best fucking gen 1 Pokemon.

Can you only get new trainers in the Trainer House with the pokewalker or can you do something else?
if I have a sand veil SubSeeding Cacturne (I do)
should my first move be the substitute and THEN toss out seeds?
also why do voltorb flip and BP grinding suck?
I love the battle factory when I am not like "need to get some BP for my stuff"
