I've never even heard of NetHack!

As a video game geek, you totally lose your cred if you don't know about the game that spawned Diablo and its clones.

It was released a long time ago :(. And to be fair, I didn't actually play Diablo all that much, so there!

    Almost there...

Also, I forgot to put "shields" in the list of item types in the game, wrote the clarifications before I finalized the item list... There are also pre-emptive controlled polymorph and wish clarifications re: how to use them. You will know if you have polymorph control or a wish and the item descriptions that grant them will have more details

Have they updated it recently to stop it from constantly crashing on Windows 7? I lost some promising characters to dungeon collapses in the first month I had my new PC...

No idea, the page doesn't say win 7 so I guess not. You could save every level and keep backups I guess. Putty + nethack.alt.org always works though.

    Also, Lucedes takes B:L's spot

Okay, all PMs should be out. I'm going to check them over in case I missed items and such before actually starting the game

Also, for all the vanillagers: I was lazy, all your PMs start with: You are a <alignment> <race> <class> and jump straight into the per-person stuff.

For vanillagers everything in the sample villager PM also applies to you, including the initial description, win condition and the "unspoiled" ability.

    It begins

At the bottom of Ghennom, the High Priest of Moloch was spending his day in prayer, a very normal day as far as he was concerned. However, it was not a normal day, something different was happening.

His prayers were interrupted by an acolyte.

“Your Holiness, if I may have a moment of your time?”

    “What is it?”

“Our scouts have received a report... adventurers have entered the dungeon”

”Very good, another sacrifice for Moloch... Wait, you said adventurers?”

“Yes... there are a lot more than normal”

    ”How many?”

“Twenty or thirty at least my lord, the imp was unclear”

    ”TWENTY? THIRTY?

    “Y.. yes”

”We cannot allow this... they know the rules. They come in one at a time and we wait for them. No... I have to put a stop to this.”

A short while later the High Priest stands before an group of powerful creatures, giving orders.

“The adventurers have come in force this time, we must show no mercy”

He points to a group of Angels hovering off to the side.

“Go wake up the Wizard, we need him. And start summoning the Princes...”

”The rest of you, come with me, we'll handle this ourselves”

Several roars and screeches were heard echoing in the deeps...

Meanwhile, the priest was not the only one who had heard....

A wizened old man was climbing the staircases, surrounded and guarded by his students. As he approached the dungeon's entrance he dismissed his students, saying “I must go alone here, but I will have need of your services, do not stray too far” and then softly to himself “I wonder if he has returned”

    At the entrance...

A large number of adventurers tricked in one by one. They milled about, killing a few newts and grid bugs and the occasional jackal, unsure of exactly what to do. Nobody had done anything like this before, there were so many of them they didn't have to fear the same things that a lone adventurer would. An old woman with a slight smile on her face took the lead “we head downstairs of course” and pointed the way, “I have seen it”

“Did you see her outside?” a few people asked of their companions, but nobody knew for certain if they had seen her before or not.

As they descended past the first few levels they noticed their numbers had swelled somewhat... paranoia began to set in, they could no longer remember who had come from outside and who had joined them inside... and what those who had joined them intended.

As the group explored, they located additional staircases on two levels, each leading to a markedly different type of dungeon. “Which way should we go?” somebody asked... a very good question indeed.

We are in The Dungeons of Doom

The Dungeons of Doom effect: Super Democracy! Not one, not two but three votes today!

Vote in yellow for tonight's location: Sokoban or the Gnomish Mines

    ALSO

Vote in cyan for tomorrow's location: The Quest or The Castle

You know that Sokoban is a good place to try for an Amulet of Reflection and has many wands and rings while the Mines is the best place to find a magic lamp and the shops are well stocked with potions and scrolls.

You know that the Castle has a Wand of Wishing, several dragons to provide dragon scale mail and other miscellaneous items. You also know that completing the Quest will reward you with powerful artifacts.

Both the Quest and Castle are mandatory, this vote is simply deciding the order. We will visit only one of Sokoban and the Mines however.

A villager who confuses the rest of the village can be just as dangerous as a mafia undermining them. The way you played was poor form and actually against your (the village's) win condition.

You should know better than to actively trying to mess up your own faction, Gumpy.

Throwing your hands up and going "Screw you, [my team], you suck and I hope you lose!" is poor sportsmanship.
