No one is complaining about people being too polite. If someone says 'gg' to me, it doesn't send me in to an anti-polite rage (and I will almost always respond with a 'gg''). Most of us that have any complaint, it is the implication that if you don't say 'gg', you're some sort of uncouth heathen who doesn't bathe. Saying "I fucked your mom last night" is universally considered impolite, I'm pretty sure.

Unless it was your dad. You really should give him a high-five. It would be rude not to.
Playing starcraft is like any other interaction between two people in a competitive environment. You wish them good luck as a greeting, and say good game after being defeated. This is the norm. It does not matter what you think.
Not doing so could be for two reasons
Ignorance, as in, you're not aware of this ritual, and is an acceptable excuse for your first few games.
Indifference, as in, you don't care about the etiquette associated with your current situation. That makes you a dick.
Can you qualify this? Gold I find ot be pretty vanillla. No uber-cheese, no 200 APM, but on the flip side, no teching to carriers right off the bat or any other crazy strategies.
Indifference, as in, you don't care about the etiquette associated with your current situation. That makes you a dick.
... according to "some dudes on the internets" (and again, let's get back to the example of ANY OTHER online game... how is that not a "competitive environment"? How does this "rule" not apply there?)
But really, I have no problem if people say 'gg'... I just think it's dumb that people having a problem with me *not* saying it.

or maybe you're a conscientious objector.
"i refuse to say 'gg' because it goes against my moral code which prohibits: overpoliteness and/or abbreviated greetings."

No Great Name thinks I'm a dick because I don't say 'gg', whatever shall I do with myself? One of the biggest dicks and pot stirrers on the forums thinks I'm a dick...I must really be a douche.

neither is fucking your mother but I try to be courteous to her too
That was in response to they guy calling it a sport. But mom jokes are always fun.
Also, E-sport? really?
so people making gangbusters for playing it in a competitive league, sometimes on teams, televised
not a sport?
okay
It's a sport in Korea, and no where else. There are no StarCraft matches on TV here, sorry. This has been pointed out several times: If you play in a Korean professional league, it may be a sport for you. For everyone else, it's not a sport anymore than Wii Bowling is.

also why are we still talking about this nonsense
then you are playing against the AI and whoa they also say gg!!

so just because there is only a major professional football league in the united states, playing it anywhere else makes it not a sport?
i'm not saying one should treat it as a competitive sport if they don't want to -- but to not acknowledge as a sport because you aren't playing it competitively is silly.
why not? it's not like we have that much to talk about regarding the new patch.
because it's an argument based almost entirely on opinion and, this being the internet, nobody is likely to change their stance; so everyone just ends up saying the same thing over and over at each other

If you aren't interested in competitive SC2, then why are you playing on the ladder? The very purpose of which is to foster competition by matching you with an appropriately skilled opponent.

this is a weird way of thinking. so an activity is not a sport if there is no professional league playing in your locality?
that just sounds like a really, really illogical conclusion.

To be fair nobody likes getting stomped by ridiculously good people even if they're playing for fun.

Because you can't play it any other way right now?
Plus playing non-ladder games just leads to you getting stomped on by platinum players. If I play on the ladder, it's because I just want to play a game that I'm not going to get stomped on/doing the stomping. I don't give a shit about the ranking or whatever, I just wanna have fun.
Sigh... I was playing ZvT last night, trying to get use to the new Zerg changes, when I got my ass beat. Game was on Metalopolis, and had been going pretty well for me, I kept my enemy will bottled in, blew up some expansions, and generally kept expanding and sending suicide overlords for scouting. Then he managed to sneak out 20 cloaked Banshees... nuts.
Is there anything you can do in that case, where you scouted an enemy, though you knew what they were doing, but get ambushed with some idiotic cheese? I feel like I screwed up, but I'm not sure how.

I'm curious to see how the smaller Thors operate. Has the size change given them any significant advantages in larger fights where they used to suffer?

Playing Starcraft 2 against another human being is competitive by default. You're both competing to win. That's what 'competitive' means in this context. It doesn't mean playing in tournaments for a thousand dollars, in this case.
Edit: Pfffft, Trus, I barely post in this thread so I've never had the chance to argue! You can't take this away from me!

Custom games against strangers and friends + FFA. Both are unranked and made for fun, practice, and shenanigans.
A Zerg who does the slowest roach timing push on my base and leaves right as my 5 mutas pop.
A terran who responds to my 14 expand by putting a barracks and a bunker in the middle of the map and sends marines into my base like lemmings because he thinks i can't possibly have a pool or something.
And now a zerg who put alll his production buildings at the edge of the cliff of Oasis, allowing my hydra drop to wipe them all out from the low ground, then when i ferry up to the high ground as his roaches arrive at the bottom, he leaves.

It honestly sounds like your scouting didn't quite do its job, or you got unlucky and missed a few well-placed starports. It happens. If it happens a lot you might want to try different scouting strategies (changelings can work).

Too lazy to organize them. I just wanna build dudes and see them kill other dudes built by some other dude.

If your opponent hid 20 banshees that you didn't see and researched cloak and you had no detection and no anti-air, I don't really think that's "cheese."
20 banshees is a huge investment. Even 10 banshees with cloak is a huge investment, and banshees have no AtA capabilities so a handful of air units with an overseer would shut that army down without any losses.
If you don't want to pursue an air game, overseer + hydra works fine and an infestor with fungal growth can turn an attempt at harassment into a game-losing mistake.

Basically you've been the biggest dick in the thread, with your curt dismissals of the subject altogether - as though you're above even discussing it.
I'm not saying the conversation hasn't run it's course, but if you don't like it you can just post about other things and ignore it.
