My wife and I talked this weekend and it's time to retire the CRT in our living room and join the 21st century with a nice new flat screen.
I made measurements on our cabinet and it looks like a 42" or 46" will fill it out nicely.
I know I want 1080p
Also 4 or more HDMI inputs would be nice. (Dish receiver, XBOX360, PS3, and a spare)
Beyond that, I'm clueless, which is sad because I'm uber geeky about PC and gaming tech.
We hit up Best Buy to look and see which brands we thought looked the best and what would be within our budget. Hands down, out of what was on display, the Sharp Aquos looked to have the best picture to both of us.
One problem we're having is all of the new TV's we looked at in our size range also came with things like built-in internet for Netflix, Facebook, Twitter and whatnot. While we have Netflix, I can access it through my 360 or PS3 already, so paying a premium for having it built-in on the TV seems silly. Do they still even make "just a TV" TV's?
Our budget is around $800, give or take a hundred bucks or so.

Read the OP, make sure you understand the difference in features, size, display, etc. General advice is Samsung or Panasonic is your best bet.
Also, do not judge picture quality by what Best Buy is showing you. There is a laundry list of reasons why that I an get into if you'd like. But just... you know... don't. Instead, read professional reviews.
I'll dive in at lunch.
