Dry Erase Wallpaper

In watching the various episodes of PATV, what I love about Tycho and Gabe's room is their wall which is completely covered in whiteboard. I've got a wall that's 15' long and 9' tall that I would love to have whiteborded, but the stuff that I find on Amazon or Google all appear to be thin, and my wall is textured (drywall, I think it's stucco). I'm worried that without a smooth surface such a board will become uneven and unusable.

Looking for any suggestions you might have - should I mount some cheap plywood? Is there a way to smooth out the wall? Should I try a little whiteboard wall paper first to see if it works? Any ideas or experience with one of these things would be greatly appreciated.

I work in a rec center and puck board (the white boards on the hockey rink) is awesome for dry erase markers. You can get it at pretty much any hardware store in drywall sized sheets and its fairly inexpensive.

What you could consider is just building a huge white board and then leaning it against the wall.

I personally would not do this unless I was planning on staying in the house for the rest of my life, another thing to consider is how easy it would be to remove if you ever change your mind or have to move.

If you're going to just put up wall paper on stucco the texture is still going to show through.

Chainsaw Willy: your idea sounds perfect! I'll hit my Home Depot tomorrow to check that out.

Nuka: Removing shouldn't be a problem if I'm just screwing it to the wall, but if I'm going to be plastering or pasting I'll give it second thought before doing something permanent.

Awesome help. I hadn't even known this board existed until tonight. PA people truly are the best people!

The PA offices actually are painted with whiteboard paint. (I don't know if this is what they used, just one example).

Cool stuff. Like Nuka said I probably don't want to do something permanent to a place that I might try to sell at some point, but it's good to know what PA actually uses. Thanks!

Home depot has stuff called "shower board" which sounds the same as described above. It's $14 for a 4x8 foot sheet, and they will cut it for you. I bought one and cut it in half for gigantic work whiteboards that don't cost $1000 each.

That stuff works great. I've done that several times. My only recommendation is to clean it fairly often. If you leave the dry erase ink on there for too long it's really hard to get off.
