Cannot render the file...

Need some help with something from someone more knowledgeable then myself (you guys). I guess this could be borderline not allowed to talk about but I figured I would ask anyways. I have downloaded some .avi files and was trying to convert and burn them to dvds. I was using WINAVI, AVIPRO, and DVD santa pretty much at the same time fucking around in all the programs. While using WINAVI I was converting one of the AVI's to DVD and noticed in the middle of converting that theres a stupid logo on the middle of the newly converted .mpg file so I canceled it during the process.

My problem is this: every time I go into the folder my old avi files are in... any of them not just the one that was converting and I single or double click on the file windows explorer crashes. If I double click it and try to play the file it comes up and says cannot render the file, says this in media player, divx, whatever program I use.

What do I need to do? Reset all my codecs? is that possible? We looking at a reformat here?
