So I got to try the Abakan briefly last night. It can be pretty awesome for long range fights. I think all my kills with it were headshots, a couple of which made me say, "Whoa! He's dead?" I'm so used to needing at least 4 hits with anything else. However, I don't have a good feel for it yet and it failed me in closer ranges so I switched back to the Aug in those situations where I knew I was doing in your face combat.
Every game I've ever played with shotguns gets them wrong. They should be kings of combat at less than 25 yards, and let's be honest, they're the joker at anything beyond 2 yards. Even then, I've emptied my Saiga into a crowded room and didn't kill anybody. I've emptied my shotgun at someone in the same room and they knifed me and walked away without a scratch. People should fear shotguns at close range, and they don't scare anyone because they're next to worthless. I don't know what technical issue to blame, or if it's just a poor design and implementation. They just don't work.
So... help me out here guys. Tank sniping made a good chunk of last night fairly not fun, to the point that half the PA folk (there were only 6 of us on anyway) ended up leaving because of it.
I don't think tank sniping should be a kickable offense, definitely not. What I need help with is ways to deal with tanks. I felt like I tried everything I could because I didn't want people to leave but it didn't work out.
-I spent my first life on each section of the map as an engy laying out mines
-I went tracer/RPG and hit the tank roughly 900 times
-I tried to sneak around to plant C4 or something, but given how far back into the base the tank usually sat (not even sure how he could still snipe that far back) I didn't succeed.
I feel like the only thing I could try is to get like 3 people on Vent to coordinate to tracer and then fire 3 RPGs all at once at the tank. My only concern is that then we're 3 PA people stuck playing anti-tank until we die... and then we need to rinse and repeat this formula 2 minutes later.
What have you guys done when relatively skilled tank snipers are single-handedly running the show?
I think that tanks are usually poorly utilized in this game. Too many drivers run them right up to the front lines where they are quickly taken out. A good driver will snipe from a distance because that's what tanks are good at. There are some maps where tank sniping is easy, and other maps where the tank would need to be exposed to get a shot at an MCOM.
I think you're doing the right things, but if the other team has a good tank driver and a dedicated engy or two repairing the tank, good luck. The only other thing is getting recon mortar attacks in there which forces the tank to move giving you some relief and possibly exposing him to rocket fire. The trick is convincing recons to stop hill humping long enough to use it and/or making sure they save mortar attacks for vehicles.

The buckshot leaving a shotgun will have a spread about an inch or two across 10' from the barrel, which is about the max distance you'll get in a room in BC2
Imagine how big a room is. Now imagine how big six people standing in a room is. Now imagine blazing away with something as uncontrollable as an automatic shotgun is, and being shocked and awed when you have six 1-2" holes in the wall and six amused looking men about to fuck yo face.
The reason the shotgun is "feared" is because it's a one hit kill at close range. Going off the giimpa's spreadsheets, every other gun in the game will take around .4 seconds of fire to put someone down... the shotgun is 0.0 seconds. Click, dead. You can wipe out a whole squad before they put you down if you're good at putting the reticule exactly over the enemy's chest/head and the game doesn't fuck you with a miss. (the shotgun buckshot reticule lies, at close range it's directly in the middle of the circle, you can't put half the enemy's head in the reticule and expect magic. that being said, sometimes the shotgun just inexplicably doesn't hit anything)
I'm surprised not more people use pump-action slugs, they're basically red-dot sniper rifles with double the fire rate for any class. Nothing like repeatedly insta-dropping defenders just as they appear at a doorway of an mcom you just armed.

The pump-action is great, but doesn't leave much room for mistakes.
I get terrible hit direction with the shotguns. I've fired the SPAS square at the chest of someone not 3 feet away and hit nothing. On the other hand I had this weird streak the first time I started using the Saiga Recon in which I could take out entire squads. It's sort of finnicky and is why I don't use the shotguns anymore.
Does anyone know if using a wired internet connection will solve the lag problems I have? I use a wired connection on my 360 and I don't have any disconnects or lag spikes when playing Halo 3.
If you have a decent router wired vs. wireless shouldn't be something you should notice, the same way modern wireless keyboards and mice are perfectly good for gaming

This pretty much mirrors my experience with the Shotgun too. I love when I take out 3 people with 4 shots at close range, but other times I shoot squarely at the same guy 4 times from a few yards away and then he knifes me and still have over half his health.

I use the Neostead with slugs all the time. That's usually if I'm playing Recon and plan on getting close to the front lines and picking off stragglers.
However, if I'm rolling into battle with my squad I'm rolling 870 + Mag Ammo.
So... help me out here guys. Tank sniping made a good chunk of last night fairly not fun, to the point that half the PA folk (there were only 6 of us on anyway) ended up leaving because of it.
I apologize for my part in it (machine gun/repairing the tank) but I didn't realize it was causing so much havoc. Until people actually left.
I find the AT4 with explosive perk usually does a good number against the tanks and for the most part tank sniping is really only very successful on the first round of mcoms (on Arica Harbor), yeah you can use them on the rest but typically the tank is very exposed in order to do so. With the majority of pubbies really just hanging back without really caring about whether the tank goes down it makes it really difficult to coordinate an attack when your held down by the attackers.
Eventually though you guys took him out with a few rockets + mortar strike but I can see how that would be difficult to have to do every few minutes.
I don't see it happen all the time but I suppose if there's one player doing it constantly you either have to choose to have him kicked or make it a point to take out the tank. If everyone else is a pubbie it means it will probably have to be you.
I think the issue with tank sniping isn't that its OP or exploiting, it's that getting pubbies to do anything other than run around deathmatch style is the real problem. If you're getting destroyed by a tank repeatedly, maybe you should stop using that CG on infantry? (Seriously, the CG's last night were ridiculous.)
Last night I was on defense on Atacama. The first section is basically designed for tank sniping. However, the usual behavior prevailed with everyone running around allowing the enemy tanks to run around our base. I switched to engy and took out 4 tanks by myself in just a couple of minutes. 2 of which were sniping outside the base. Tracer dart + rpg = dead tanks.
Unless I'm playing a map without enemy vehicles, my secondary weapon is always a tracer gun. It's 30 points right away and there's a good chance a teammate will destroy my target within seconds after tagging resulting in an assist, not to mention taking the vehicle out of play.

Oddly enough I was going to suggest trying a CG or two against that tracered sniper tank. Like 1-2 RPGs to damage the tank, one CG to kill the 3 or 4 engies repairing the tank.
Not sure if the range is good enough to do that since the CG nerf though.
I think Africa Harbor is the only map I've tanked sniped on when my team is too bad to do much else and only on the first point (b). I agree though it's cheesy and lame and I feel bad when i do it. Come to think of it I only really snipe the mcoms with tanks/boats on the first points of acouple rush maps(Valparaiso, Isla) where a horribad team that doesn't work togther ends the game immediately instead of having some fun on the rest of the map.
By the way, if any west coast volunteers feel they can handle the mantle of administration, I haven't had a lot of time to play lately and could use one or two trustworthy individuals to rotate maps or set HardCore mode, etc.
Not like BloodSport is rampant with traffic since the last EA Master server destruction, but still - you guys can at least use it as flight school or something.

I'd much rather play with tank snipers then those fuckwits that charge into the middle of the enemy base then bail out when the tank hits 10%, giving sharp enemy players a free vehicle
Which they then proceed to use to fuck us like your parents did at woodstock
If you guys are looking for a working BC2 stats page, there is a link on the banner in my sig. It appears to be the only one working somehow. Lots of options for banners too.
Xbox folks....title update this evening. After it went through, all of my SpecAct achievements popped instantly. Still no fix on Thompson/Garand stats being all wobbly.

Went over two nights-ish ago.
That explains why that achievement hit when I got in game though.
So what ever happened to that PC patch that was suppost to come out this week? Fixing stuff like gaining points when you're dead.
I hope you mean stuff other than objective destruction cause that would suck to loose points for blowing the MCOM just because you died before it went off...

When dead, you currently get no points for anything currently unfolding in your wake. They still count towards stats and badges just not ingame score.

If the new patch passes QA it should be out sometime this week. There is not much of this week left, so that means it should be soon.

That's a rather strange bug. I was confused at first because I see points all the time after I'm dead. But you're talking about the in-game score, not the soldier points, right?
On a related note, I think they should increase both the score and soldier points for mcom actions and capture actions. When doing things to complete the team goal aren't worth a whole lot more than keeping your k/d ratio up, then there's little incentive to take desperate measures for the objectives. Maybe double them? Right now, there is some social pressure to "win", but very little point incentive to do so. Winning a round nets you nothing. Maybe the winning team should get a bonus?

Mortars also kill the asshole engineer parked behind the tank giving it a thorough rectal pleasuring with his tool

I think he meant Arica Harbor
First round I went 18 - 4 Second round I went 22 - 2
Third round first thing I do is accidentally TK a squadmate by sending a 40mm to his face instead of dropping an ammo box, I promptly went 4 - 16
Karma is a bitch
