There's a little bit of destruction. like a teensy bit. Some of the rocks fall over, some fences get vaporized.
It looks rather like battlefield 2, except with people dying instantly constantly.
I'm going to be kind and say it's a very early beta. Not that destruction or anything that big is going to get put in, but there is a potential for it not to be as clunky as it is now. Of course, it's not like DICE has a history of taking advantage of potential to polish their games.
The weapon balance is just awful. The MG emplacements do less damage than an M4 carbine and the bolt-action rifles are one-shot kills only on headshots, just like BC2. Except unlike BC2 players regenerate health stupidly fast and the animation to action the bolt is stupidly slow, as slow as the reload of the machine guns. And since the regular weapons are so lethal no one is dumb enough to run into the open unless they're holding down the sprint key and moving towards the nearest area of cover. Cover is everywhere and people use it religiously on the rush-type game mode, which makes for an interesting and fun game flow but it's frustrating when the best way to fill the sniper role is to use an automatic rifle.
And the movement is really really bad. It's one of those systems where if even a tiny portion of your in-game avatar, something you can't even notice visually, is blocked by an object in the world, you can't move forward. They haven't bothered to do what most other developers who make shooters have done where the game gives you slack and slides you slightly into a position where you can move forward, because HEY you're not in your real fucking body and there is no way for you to know you're being blocked by the railing of the staircase on your left because you can't fucking see it or feel it. So there are dozens of priceless moments where you want to move but are being blocked by something unseen and you have to look around or guess on what side it is to make the appropriate adjustment. Might as well call it LEGO Medal of Honor.
And moving up the stairs is like each step is a mini-trampoline, of course. A DICE classic. Inducing vertigo while you're moving up stairs is a must, because it's real like that, man.
I'm sorry for noticing things like this, but without the fun Battlefield bullshit it's kind of all there is. They've basically handed over the multiplayer portion of the game to DICE and expect them to deliver what they're weakest at, shooting. DICE is unlikely to make a good multiplayer game just on shooting.
I'm not quite sure how I feel about Medal of Honor. My first reaction was that it was a terrible dreadful mess, but now I've gotten the hang of it I've warmed up to it slightly. I think a lot of people will be put off by just how punishingly brutal it is. With the weapon lethality the way it is, the lack of killcams and the fact that it's really easy to hide in the scenery you can find yourself instantly getting killed the moment you move by some invisible enemy you have no hope of finding. It's pretty unforgiving. I think it will appeal to the super serious clan types the most. For one, it has dedicated servers. Also, while it's trying to emulate MW2 in a lot of ways, it's significantly less arcadey and with a greater emphasis on teamwork and good gunplay (40mm/nades/RPG are not that strong) so if you have good accuracy and fast reactions you can go far. It should be of some interest to the CS crowd and MW2 refugees who are tired of shooting nukes out of both eyeballs.
I like the way it handles killstreaks (points rather than kills... pointstreaks?) but the streaks themselves are a little uninspired and tough to reach because of the lethality. I guess the biggest problem it has is that there isn't really a hook beyond just shooting at guys, but having said that I did get into the "one more round" syndrome only to end up still playing hours later, so there's something compelling about it. There's a chance I'm not the best judge though, since I played a shitload of MW2 despite thinking it was pretty fucking horrible. I guess I just like to shoot manz in the face.
I can't put my finger on it, but the shooting..feels unnatural. It's hard to get used to. The games pretty vanilla though, that's for sure, pretty much a typical Modern Warfare clone.
Thanks for your interest in the Command & Conquer 4 Open Beta. We're currently limiting the rate at which we're distributing keys, but we've just secured you a place in line. We'll display your key here when we release more keys in the coming days, and we'll be sure to notify you by email as well.
Definitely a port, definitely a beta. Haven't been able to finish but 2 or 3 games because it will inevitably crash straight to desktop when I'm clicking a menu or shooting or something. Also, I don't think you actually get experience or whatever they are calling it until you finish a mission?, so its probably worse than BC2.
Seems like the M21 can be extremely inaccurate, but duders with M4s have no problem blasting me down from range. Could be lag, which I'm experiencing plenty of, but I need to unlock a scope or something. I don't think its poor hit detection, I'm seeing hits in the dirt/wall around them.
I would prefer some mild inaccuracy in weapons, having everything be a laser in BC2 is pretty ridiculous.
I can't put my finger on it, but the shooting..feels unnatural. It's hard to get used to. The games pretty vanilla though, that's for sure, pretty much a typical Modern Warfare clone.
I am loving the beta for the sole reason that weapons actually feel right. Taking a quick pot shot at an enemy hundreds of meters away and scoring a headshot kill is so damn satisfying. Something that Modern Warfare and BC2 lack severely. The weapons feel like they have some weight to them. When you miss and hit a wall debris actually flies out instead of tiny pockmarks. 2 or 3 hits from a rifle kills no matter what. And that's the way it should be. No more spraying into an enemy and having them run away only to come back and kill you now that they have your position. I guess that's just me though.
With that being said I don't really like how they handled the M21. An M4 with a red dot is more accurate.
And that's the way it should be. No more spraying into an enemy and having them run away only to come back and kill you now that they have your position. I guess that's just me though.
I like that too, but it's literally the only thing I like about the beta.
I like the feel of the standard weapons just fine, I'm just disappointed that they're so homogenized. I cannot tell the difference between any of the assault rifles in terms of feel. It would be cool if they actually adopted some of the real-world characteristics, like the American weapons are more accurate and stable, while the Russian are less accurate and harder to control but do more damage and have some penetrating power. Right now, nothing can penetrate even lone bricks sticking out of what look to be destroyed walls.
This 1:1 correlation between weapons of two sides that are supposed to be different in all aspects is just really lazy.
I like the lethality (and the hit detection as part of that) but the maps are cramped and its probably too arcade-y. I do like the kill streaks, managed in one game to get three of those buffs going and felt like I was contributing even though I was mainly just killing and not objectiving (was playing the combat mission).
I would have better impressions even I didn't CTD every half minute.

It's just so dull. It's like a much newer CSS/MW hybrid. I play but I don't feel like I'm doing anything despite my team winning 5 rounds in a row and getting 2:1 KDR.

Pretty much this part. It feels like I've played this before, because I have. It doesn't distinguish itself enough for me to be interested in buying it.
Edit: And God damn the PC interface and server browser are trash. Don't bother trying to click the sorting options or in the server browser, because it'll fuck the whole thing up. Scrolling down the server list also messes it up. Backing out and refreshing it won't fix it, either. You have to exit out of the game. Beta and all, I know, but still unpleasant.

Its DICE. Do you expect it to ship with a serviceable browser? I also enjoy how the kill/streak point bonus whatever effect has the 360 d-pad telling you which to select.

Spent most of the day with the MOH beta yesterday.
Thoughts:
1. No point in the sniper class.
2. Driving a vehicle is horrible.
3. Tiny map + poor respawn locations = massive spawn camping
4. Game feels like a step BACKWARDS from BC2
5. Killstreak offensive abilities are ridiculously overpowered and severely exploitable. Defensive abilities are next to worthless.
6. No spotting? Seriously?

You seriously don't think that the radar perk is handy? Knowing when an enemy is about to round a corner as you camp with a suppressed weapon? Match ammo let's you one shot kill people with marksman rifles that even have the lowered damage perks.
Defensive abilities are way better than offensive since for any good offensive skill usage you must be making eye contact with the target and thusly exposing yourself. If you can see them, they can kill you, and quickly. I am not a big fan of the game (beta) as it is, but I totally disagree with your claim about this aspect.
I haven't played much because my computer constantly overheats, but MoH seems pretty fun once you get into it. That said, there could be some improvements. The spawns have to be tweaked a lot, as I've been spawn killed a lot. I'm not a fan of the weapons' amazing accuracy either. It'd be nice if it was a bit closer to CS in that aspect.
I don't see why spotting should be implemented though. It might lessen camping, but it would be hard to balance in such close quarters.

I don't know what you mean about accuracy, are you talking about sustained fire? Because BC2 and CS both have insanely accurate guns. The M21/SVD can actually be pretty irritating at times with the RDS because shots go wide even when I'm aiming correctly.
The killstreaks are pretty cool, though I'm unsure of how the defensive deals work. Is it team wide? Lost on death? The bolt rifles, at least on the maps we have, seem incredibly inferior to pretty much everything else since the M21 kills in a headshot and the assault rifles are so damn accurate. Not to say I don't appreciate having an M14 that is boss as hell, just that the bolts are underwhelming with the sway and overall game lethality and distances.
In other news, I ended up on the same random server as a dearly departed comrade and he was pretty terrible at the game it seemed. Just about like BC2 really. In attempting to call him out initially, the chat completely bugged on me and the game stopped receiving keyboard input and I had to kill the process.
I probably haven't played enough shooters to say what's accurate or not, but the guns in MoH certainly felt more accurate than they were in BC2, at least the AR's did.
I don't like how companies are treating betas. I can take the Halo: Reach beta, where I could get into a game, but the server browser in MoH is nigh unusable.

Yes. The chat isn't implemented yet. So if you open the chat menu, you get stuck, forever. Until someone hopefully kills you. (FYI use a mic)

Can we maybe get the MOH discussion on another thread?
Sorry for being "that guy" (no not you that_guy, I meant "that guy"..) but it's frustrating spotting new posts in the BC2 thread only to find it's people bitching about the MOH beta...

I keep on trying and it tells me to retry later.

Yeah, this is probably the best way of putting it. So much potential here for a great combination of the two games but nooooooope.
