My Macbook Might Be Dying?

So, my friend and I have the same first generation macbooks and a couple weeks ago his stopped working. I checked it out and noted the symptoms.

Now, my macbook is starting to act like his was. Startup time is about 20-30 minutes when it used to be less than one, most of the time is spent at the first Apple logo with the spinning wheel like thing.

I got in, backed up some files. I noticed some were corrupted, but nothing important. I opened up Disk Utility and verified disk permissions.

It finished with this:
Verify permissions for “HD”
Reading permissions database.
Reading the permissions database can take several minutes.

Permissions verification complete

and I don't know what that means. I'm repairing the disk permissions now and it's taking a long time.

Should I be worried?

    Tried Verifying Disk
    Performing live verification.
    Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
    Checking Extents Overflow file.
    Checking Catalog file.
    Invalid node structure
The volume HD needs to be repaired.

Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.

the part in red was displayed in red :(

Reboot with your install disc (put it in and hold down "c" when you reboot). Go to the menu once it's booted and find the disk utility, then repair the disk. It can't be repaired while you're booted into it.

Permission repairs don't mean anything really.

If repair fails at the install disc, then try erasing the drive and reinstalling. If that goes badly, then your hard drive is probably on its way out.

Which model MB is it? It might qualify for a repair. Assuming the hard drive is toast, that is.

    Ok, here's the result..

    First Aid Failed
Disk Utility stopped repairing HD because the following error was encountered:
    Filesystem Verify or Repair failed.

And a bunch of red text:

    Incorrect number of thread records
    Invalid directory item count
    Invalid volume directory count
    Invalid volume file count

Sounds like the volume is toast. Get the data off (you have a Time Machine backup, right?) and try the erase + reinstall that RBach suggested. If problems continue, then as previously mentioned, the HD itself is on the way out and you need to get it replaced.

I have a Windows partition that is still useable. The Mac partition has degraded to complete shit the few times I can get in, so I'll be going through the windows and saving data I can reach from there.

    God, this sucks.
