Complaining that the main character in a GTA game is capricious in their motives is like complaining that the sun came up again today. Inconsistency is sort of Rockstar's forte.

    Let's be fair.

I'm pretty sure he would have been in a situation of either joining the Serbian death squads or becoming a victim.

But yeah, as Eagle said, for someone wanting to get away from that, he jumps back in pretty quick. But if I remember correctly, he did feel pretty conflicted.

John Marston in RDR is pretty good about it though. The whole thing is "I'm a murderer who doesn't want to do this shit no more but dammit if the gubment ain't got their spur to my neck."

    MCVUK:
Interactive entertainment chief Chris Lewis reveals why the UK is a special market for Microsoft

The PlayStation brand has always enjoyed a strong following in Europe and, in particular, the UK but Microsoft’s VP of interactive entertainment business for EMEA Chris Lewis has revealed why it remains one of his firm’s key territories, too.

We don’t break out figures by country, but the UK continues to be a very strong market for us with the highest attach rate in the world,” he told MCV in an exclusive interview in this Friday’s magazine.

“In the face of price drops, new form factors and massive marketing expenditure by the competition, Xbox 360 still grew full-year market share in EMEA from 2008 to 2009.

“In November, we also celebrated selling 10 million consoles into customers’ homes in EMEA. Our games attach rate remains the highest in the industry, by an increasing margin, which makes us both an enviable platform and a great partner for publishers and retailers alike.”

MCV has spoken to each of the three platform holders in its E3 Special Edition, which will be circulated at the LA event next week. To read the interviews in full, make sure you check MCV magazine this Friday.

The “world’s thinnest smartphone” includes 5MP camera and hi-res (non-OLED) screen

Steve Jobs has at long last given a public reveal to what is being called simply the iPhone 4.

The device – the same as that obtained by Gizmodo – is just 9.6mm thin. It has a flat rear and metal edge which acts as an antenna.

It packs one front-facing camera, a 5MP rear-facing camera with LED flash and a 3.5 inch 960x640 resolution screen. Though not OLED as many were expecting, the screen does boast a pixel density of 326ppi – a market leading figure that Jobs says goes beyond that which can be perceived with the human eye.

HD 720p video recording at 30fps comes as standard. "Face-time" video calling will also be featured, though in a telcom-provider-pleasing move it is limited to wi-fi only.

The iPhone 4’s OS has been renamed iOS and will offer users the chance to use Microsoft’s Bing search engine via a pop-up option menu. Google remains as the default search option, though.

Battery life is said to have been improved by an impressive 40 per cent over older models, thanks in part to the Apple A4 chip (of iPad fame) that powers the device. Browsing time over 3G is pegged at 6 hours with a wi-fi browsing time of ten hours.

iPhone 4 will also use Micro SIM cards, meaning users won’t be able to use existing chips if they buy a handset out of contract.

Other features include a gyroscope, accelerometer and compass, the combined effect of which is six-axis motion control for games.
Apple to be accused of stealing from Sony.
Nintendo console is more popular than smart phones

Argos has revealed that visits to its website made from Nintendo Wiis have doubled year-on-year, making it the third most popular web browsing device to the retailer.

The home catalogue store said visits to Argos.co.uk from Wii consoles increased from 465,000 in 2008 to 805,000 last year.

This means the Wii was ahead of all other devices excluding the iPhone, iPod Touch and PC. It proved to be more popular than all other smart phones on the market.

Comparatively the iPhone and iPod Touch each generated over a million hits to the Argos website. The retailer said this generated a traffic increase of over 600 per cent by the end of 2009.

Last week Argos also launched its first iPhone app which allows users to browse from 25,000 items and buy using its increasingly popular ‘Check & Reserve’ service.

The retailer has also announced plans to sell the iPad from September this year.
    Completely useless info!

I don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but apparently there's rumor of a new Goldeneye game coming out for Wii and DS. Before anyone gets too excited, it's being made by Activision.

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/activision-goldeneye-game-in-november

If this is real, I don't care about the Wii version if it doesn't have online play, but a DS version sounds really awesome especially if it has local wifi. No screen watching, and a really great game made portable.

I don't get why people are constantly clamoring for a Goldeneye remake...Timesplitters 2 and 3 surpassed it a while ago.

A new Goldeneye game you say? Several years after the original, not by the original developers or the same publisher, released on Gamecube architecture? Also with a DS version? Can't think of where I've heard of that before.

This is a remake of the original though, so it was a good game to start with. Although giving it modern physics isn't going to make it a good game over 10 years later for full retail.

Its a gimmick unless the 3DS does really well, then they just say they didnt want to do it until it was perfect.

More from that Pach Attack guy:
"I think the Wii hardcore likes Nintendo games, which are only available on the Wii. As a result, the Wii hardware is the best possible platform for those games. Every other hardcore game has been optimized for the 360 or PS3, and the Wii versions look weak in comparison. There have been a handful of Wii exclusives that are hardcore, like The Conduit and Red Steel, but don't they don't stand up well when compared to Call of Duty or Uncharted 2. The fact is that nobody has been able to figure out how to create games similar to Nintendo core titles. It seems to me that a 'true' hardcore gamer has a Wii to play Nintendo first party titles, and a 360 or PS3 to play everything else. Of course, some true hard core gamers can't afford multiple consoles, but my guess is that the majority of these own a 360 or PS3, since the number of third party and first party 'great' games available vastly exceeds the number of first party, great games on the Wii." - Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter

Even though there have been some fantastic third party offerings that most pass up (Little King's Story and Boy and his Blob :x ) I would be lieing if I said that the main draw to the Wii or DS for me have been the first party offerings, as I love Nintendo's characters as much as I do Disney's main cast.

The third party offerings of quality are just gravy on an awesome Wii train!

Same, except without having a 360. I'd probably play it a bunch if I actually had one, but given a binary choice between Nintendo games and every other console's games, I'll go with Nintendo. Everything else I either don't care about that much, or is on the PC.

Man are we really discussing this again? Okay I'll throw in my 2 cents again.

I'm finding that as I get older I just don't have the attention span for alot of videogames. I like stuff I can play in little 30 minute chunks, as it seems that my days of sitting for hours at a time on the weekend playing a single game are in the past. I like the Wii the most this generation because it's full of those kinds of games. deBlob, The Munchables, and Rabbids Go Home are all games that fit this category...games I can play in small chunks and get alot of enjoyment out of.

I absolutely hate the trend towards "Open World" and "Sandbox" games because I find that absolutely loses the focus of the game. I can get lost for hours at a time in a game like Fallout 3 but get absolutely nothing accomplished in those hours, which an absolute waste. Tight, focused games are where it's at.

Except they all have that 'ethos'. Every single open world game will tell you what you're supposed to be doing next. Either as part of some kind of journal or a directive on where to go to start the next mission. Doing anything else on purpose is part of making ones own fun. Whether that's causing some kind of mayhem, participating in mini-games, exploring, or doggedly tracking down the next specific step that completes the story.

Blaming the game for one's inability to remain focused whilst playing a game that doesn't railroad you specifically to the next step is a cop-out.

Nah. I don't think the two are really the same either. I didn't think the DS or Wii were gimmicky, just that there was a possibility that their tech wouldn't catch on.

Portable 3D seems interesting because you don't need glasses. However no portable screen is big enough to really do something interesting with the concept. I don't think the 3DS has any chance of making 3D as popular as the original made touch. I think the selling point for it will simply be that it's a more powerful DS rather than any new innovation it brings.

Microsoft tries to show how out touch they are with people under 30. This time their big surprise is probably Rock Band Toto or something.

Sony acts all smug about motion control like they invented it, then announces a PSP2 and the price is 5x what anybody is willing to pay for it. Plus Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiidge Racer!
