Oh this is fucking cougar country... I got 15 feet down the road when I heard the snarl of another cougar, whipped out my Cattleman, hit dead eye and put a round in it's face. Holstered and continued walking down the road. 15 feet later I feel a sharp pain in my back as a third cougar sinks its claws in, having never made a sound. I thought I was dead, until Marston shouts "STUPID ANIMAL!" and crawled to his feet. One more Dead-eye shot later and I have a third cougar fang in my pouch.
But that doesn't change the fact I'm in cougar country on foot.... I'M GOING TO DIE OUT HERE...

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you succeed in doing this, tell me how.
So is the horse deed like the "Specialist Map", where you use it and its gone from your inventory?
Just bought one and tried it, the deed stays in your inventory. A pseudo-garage is a good way to describe it, though given how most horses seem exactly the same I don't know why you'd want all the deeds.

My first night of playing I was bushwhacked by some ruffians. As I took up cover behind a fence I was lifted up 300 feet into the air. When I reached the apex Marston let out a "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH" and fell to a horribly gruesome death.

I would imagine for the same reason I obsessively went to pay-n-spray in GTA4. So I could have a fleet of identical Comet cars, with the only difference being the color.
My final gripe, I think, is that for an obsessive compulsive saver like myself, 3 save slots is BRUTAL in an open world game, where I want to control time and be able to re-load certain events to take different paths.

Well, reality shows aren't TV. They're magical beams of fiendish light that make all who see it mentally retarded. Save your family now!!!
BTW, anyone able to link their 360 gamertags to the Social Club?

I didnt do a single thing - yesteday I booted up Red Dead (had put in about 2 hours the previous day) and it said "Congrats for linking your gamertag to the social club!" and gave me a spiffy suit.
I wore it like a gentleman to meet Bonnies father, of course.
But it either remembered something from GTA4 (I dont remember joining the social club, but I guess its likely I did), or its voodoo.

Wow, this is absolutely fantastic. From just exploring the open world to kicking back with some Poker and everything in between, I feel like I'm gonna be spending a long time with this game.
Although when I returned to Armadillo one time, there was this crazy guy who started knifing a woman, and when I shot him, I got reminded about the consequences of bad deeds. Guess 'cause it wasn't by the book?
Hmmm...does quicktravel glitch some quests? I haven't been able to do this one quest for the snake oil dealer because his cart literally will not move.
For my latest SP hunting challenge, are wolves separate from Coyotes? I assume "yes", where do I find them?
I had a hard time finding them too, a guy in the previous thread suggested looking around Rathskeller Fork. I rode out there, dropped bait and got the last four wolves I needed.
From reading the posts in this thread, it sounds like the deserts and plains are vast open killing grounds where death awaits you at every patch of dirt and behind every rock.
Is this the case?
Is there any scope for simply chilling and riding across the plains without deadly interruption?

Tons.
I am very early in the game (so early in fact I clicked an "early game spoiler" and it was something I wish I didnt know, because Im not there yet =( ), and I have no idea if the wilderness toughens up as the map opens up, but I have plenty of open land to just camp and stuff.
Coyotes don't even fuck with you if you leave them alone. Ive been bitten by a couple snakes, and a random puma attack or 2, but overall it's been very peaceful deer and horse and rabbit and the occasional skunk and armadillo.

Anyone in the UK who has pre-ordered a big title from GAME before know if I should account for queues tomorrow morning? Or will I just be able to walk in with my pre-order slip and walk out, game in hand?

This is the first game I have ever pre-ordered.
I have rarely if ever seen queues in the store for a specific game. Usually this is reserved for midnight launches, but i'm not sure if RDR is being launched at midnight tonight.
I imagine you'll be fine. Just walk in and get it really.
So after a dedicated couple of days I finished the main storyline. It's insane when
You are attacked by the army led by Agent Ross. You manage to get your wife and son to the barn and to buy them time you step out the front barn doors. In front of you stand about 15 soldiers and marshals. You immediately go into Dead Eye and you can open up with your pistol before you go down in a blaze of glory. Then you come back as Jack and can take a mission to hunt down Agent Ross and avenge your family.

Two points...
1. look up the phone number for you store, give them a call and ask... The number of wasted visits i have had to Game stores to pick up pre-orders where it had not arrived yet, or they are still storing out the delivery, etc... Saves going back later...
2. For future reference, my online preorder with Game for a delivered copy of the PS3 version is out for delivery today... 1 day delivery, money well spent in my opinion...

I have a few things to do tomorrow in town, and it will be quite difficult not to just pick it up and come right back home again, so if there is a small delay, it might actually be to my benefit.

Ok, Dead Eye level 2 is my only complaint. You should be allowed to hit a button to paint your target instead of just being automatic. It also makes duels really difficult.
Count me as in on that shit Mostlyjoe, I'll add you tomorrow when I get on.
No problem. I'm hunting my posse down. I'm hoping we can get a nice crew of 8-10 folks going on bandit camp raids. That shit? It be fine!
Yeah I want in on this too. I'll send you a FR at lunch then I will probly be on from 5-?.
Sounds good. I'm on for tonight, but I might be late for tomorrow. 9pm ish. I'll find another posse leader tonight to organize earlier. Especially with the AUX/UK folks just coming in.
If anyone is going to be posseing on 360 this morning, send me (batshido) a line. I'll be around, but my multi hasn't worked terribly well so far. I'm still level 1 with the burro of fury.
Have 360, PS3, and stupid powerful PC (I gather there will eventually be a PC version like GTA4).
I bought PS3. I have not had a single moment of regret in this decision.
Being able to pick out pixels would be all well and good if I was sitting with my face slammed up against my 46 inch screen. But I sit on a comfy couch about 6 feet back. And it's pretty.

The most thrilling thing that happened to me was: I was on the bounty of a 120 dead/240$ Alive target. I really needed the money, so I shot him in the legs and hogtied him. I put him on my horse, and not 30 seconds later, some of his buddies come to take him back. So I shoot them back, but it turns out one killed my horse! So I'm carrying this guy manually, and its dark and hard to see because of the rain everywhere, and his buddies keep coming after me! I using my Dead Eye all the time, because I can't shoot them any other way. But it starts to run out, and I'm getting scared. It's an endless cycle of running to the Mcfarlane Ranch and shooting back. The rain, thunder, and darkness doesn't help either. But when I was giving up hope, a horse came my way. I put that sonuvabitch on the back, got on it, and road my ass faster than you can blink. I do finally make it, and the 240$ are mine! Not to mention, I got an awsome duster (Not legend of the west) because of how high my honor (Or fame?) went. I then spend that hard earned money on a gun in black water, play some blackjack, and just feeling awsome.
I think I figured out the mystery of the sudden unexpected horse deaths.

Not bad, just lower res, little blurrier, less foliage, little more LOD and pop in problems, and just a little less graphical fidelity overall.
Which is pretty backwards from how it should be, really
But from what I've heard, it's not really noticeable
