Cheers guys, I know all the ways of incresing the chances of getting a drop but I prefer to just hunt in the hope that I will get what I want. It's just very annoying when it doesn't which is why I gave in and got me a Jaggi mask. I was playing with someone who desparately wanted monster fluid hahaha....I which I had his problems.

Just beat the offline Barioth, was kinda dissapointed that it played almost exactly the same as Nargacuga; I've fought so many of those I could probably dodge it without looking. I'll probably pick up his armour to stop me looking like one of the village people online.
Also Prance gesture is awesome, there are some pretty great gestures this time round.

I'm online, but seems no one else is. Seems to be less people playing during the week, which sucks as I'm not free on weekends
I caught you just as you logged off or something. Welp. I'm pretty much free all week long, if you can stand grinding my HR up further (Read: above 4) before we could kill any of the higher end stuff. I don't have a keyboard for the Wii or Wiispeak, but I can voice chat via Ventrilo (if the laptop is not dead) or X-Box.
Tri name: Zolb. (ID: GYEHRM). X-Box thing: Sagaxus, etc. etc.
It's kind of unfortunate that the power curve is such that once you get experience and an endgame set of armor together, the low rank monsters become complete jokes. If I partner with someone who is actually matched to the content, it feels like I'm pretty much doing the whole fight for them.
I imagine that it was even more horrific in the latest PSP release, which might be why there's no G rank in Tri.

The real reason is so that they can release Monster Hunter Tri G later on down the road.
Which I am looking forward to, since I'm uncomfortably close to "finishing" Tri (my personal view of finished is having all the fully upgraded weapons and all of the armor)

Have you gotten A rankings in all of the arena matches yet?
Arena fightings a frustrating pain in the ass solo.
I'm just wondering when they plan on bringing more Arena quests online.

I doubt I'll bother A-ranking all of the arenas, honestly.
The don't really enjoy the underwater arenas, there's no guild cards to show off my times, and unlike the PSP games you don't need to even finish all of the arenas with all weapons in order to obtain all of the equipment.
I figure I'll do them just enough to get all the coins I need, regardless of rank.
My real impediment is that they're being agonizingly slow about putting up the dual monster online grudge matches for Hunter King Coins.

The split-screen arena quests are either really tricky or me and my brother are just not very good at them. Specifically Barroth; you have to beat him in under 6 minutes and we've never even got close no matter what equipment/tactics we try...

I should be online around 6ish, as I've got some home stuff to do before I hop on.
I farmed for scatterfish last night, since I had none suddenly, and wound up getting around 20. I might farm for 30 min offline first to get some more since I've got the boats out, and might as well reap the catch.
So I'll be ready for more Ala bombing. I'll also have my normal Ian armor with Bombadier set, since that does me quite well against all of his fire attacks.
My schedule: Ura, Ura, Ura, Ura, Ura, make the Ura helmet, Ura and mining run to upgrade said helmet, Ura, Ura...............ura......ura... ra... jay leno... Make the chest ! Note: THis does not include comm errors, the hours spent finding a match, dealing with noobs that join for G.Jaggi help or pushy jerks that insist on ten of their quests before half of mine and three fails on their part. After thats all done, maybe get to capping Lagia, Blos and Barioth. Then Advanced mebbe. Then the FULL jhen quest . Probably going to take the summer.
Hey... Anyone up for 76 Hunt Ura quests? XD. jk. but i learned not to do the cap uras, as the only way to get a jaw in cap is to break his or get super lucky in rewards. At least in hunt, you can get a jaw from carving.

This game kind of interests me but I'm still a bit hesitant. How big is the learning curve? And are the regular nunchuk controls viable or is the classic controller sort of necessary?

The older ones in my opinion had pretty steep learning curves. You'd have a couple weak pitiful critters and obvious ways of taking them out then BAM! Khezu! Well, him for me. THis ones a lot better. Also the nunchuk and wiimote i didnt really try as i did hear alot of "SUCKS!" and i do really like the classic. got the pro btw. Hey, if you dont like it, return it or trade in. That or rent it. (is it rentable?)

G rank was something unique to Freedom Unite and its wealth of content plus no separation between online and off. It's never been in any other MH game and it really isn't likely to appear again unless they build another 5-6 iterations off of Tri's engine.

It might be an interesting bit of DLC, since it would be useless to anyone who hasn't already sunk a ton of time into the game.

Rules: The recommended maximum size for sigs is 500x80 pixels (four lines of text) total, and most sig images should be kept below 50KB
Please remove your sig, it's way too huge in filesize and breaks the height rule as well.
The learning curve is moderate in the sense that it's by a monster-by-monster basis. Still, once you learn to circle around a monster and dodge attacks, that's more than half the battle. :P

Fuuuck. Even with my magic farming set, I've only had one Lagiacrus Horn+ drop between last night and today of hunting high rank Laggy.
At least I carved a deep dragongem off Ceadeus today. Selene Helm+ is almost mine.

I'm far, far away from the Helios+ set, since it requires so many damn Lag parts, and for some reason farming Lag is secondary to everything else.

Heh, you should talk to krod about his quest for lagi horns, we murdered them for days and only got a few horn+s, and now I'm in the process of needing more myself. Should be on later tonight, work is dragging on longer than usual, too many issues

Ouch that sucks. Stryker and I should be around from about 5:30pm till 9:00pm eastern tonight. Tomorrow night he and I should both be able to stay on much later if we don't catch you tonight.
So I downloaded Unite for my PSP yesterday and played it some last night.
Slowly getting used to the "claw" and am having a blast with it. The only negative is these horrible looking bands / bars across the screen that look like.. well I'm not sure. That may be a side effect of the downloaded version or something.
I took down a Giadrome using the starting G.Sword and it felt as good as downing my first G.Jaggi in Tri. Still getting used to the slight differences like the Farm, Kitchen, etc but I'm sure it will all become second nature soon enough.
Currently planning on getting a full Giaprey just to get rid of this 1 defense per piece starting set. Or would you recommend something else?

hmm i might be on towards the end of that, depends on if i leave early to pick up the car from the shop or not.
being able to have free reign with the wii since my wife is finishing her dissertation means i can get on earlier than i normally would

I started with Giaprey. It's pretty easy to solo the next rung of monsters with it to get some better skills on newer armor. I had no problems with Kut-Ku in my Giaprey armor.

Do you happen to have a PSP 3000? If so, then yeah, it's the PSP screen itself, not the game. Not a big fan of the interlacing that the screen has, but you get used to it. I've got both a 2000 and 3000, and I still use my 2000 now that I've fixed the joystick.

In your item pouch, select your item, select give, then select the quantity if applicable and the player you want to give it to. You will enter a "giving" animation where the other player needs to move over to you and press A.
You can ONLY trade Rare 3 and under items, so many components cannot be traded.

Just one armour piece away from full Barioth gear; this set gives some great skills. Evade +2 and Marathon Runner? Yes please! But now I need 2 more Claws and 2 more Shells, both things I've had absolutely no luck getting...
anyone notice the lack of nice people? if they're lower rank, they're selfish and needy. high rank usually snobby. this guy, hr 67 or so, doing some gathering. i come to the city, the hr limit is none, and EVERYONE WELCOME. i post, wait, he comes back, checks the board and keeps o walking. I figure, okay, he doesnt want to do ura, let him post. he posts some + gathering thing and runs out. i like the forum server though. you guys are all pretty nice and helpful.

Bear in mind that unless this was on the recruiting server, I don't think you can even set HR limits.
What it comes down to is that if a person(s) in a town are HR 31 or higher, they probably don't want to run low rank quests because they don't really get anything from it. If I for whatever reason run a low rank quest, there is an excellent chance that I won't bother even taking a single item from the reward screen because there are almost no materials available in low rank quests that have any meaning to me, it'll just be "sell all" for an amount of money that is likely insignificant to me by now.
In short, while he probably could have said something, joining a town with HR31+ people and posting a low rank quest is usually considered somewhat rude.

Any hints/tips for the newb?
I would play offline until you get the 2 star quests and learn the basics like how to capture a monster. Then hop online and never look back.
While Online is way, way more fun than offline, it can't really be stated how much "finishing" the offline stuff will help later on.
Between Ceadeus parts, and having three upgraded ships for farming Scatterfish, having a fully upgraded farm to mass produce materials...
Damn it, Deviljho. Gimme your gem. I want the Vengis Greaves, dammit!
