Finding a place in Washington DC

So as the people in [chat] know, my plans to stay in DC have been recently dashed by a certain creeper. Which is incredibly unfortunate, because I have an internship that begins on June 1 and I am in serious trouble to find a place in time. I don't have a lot of money, which is why I chose to eschew the dorm option at George Washington ($2700!), and I am an Iranian girl, so my parents are heinously unreasonable about me living in houses with guys. Also, I'd like to at least be somewhat safe, where ever I am staying.

Thus making the search, last minute, in a tizzy, for a place almost goddamn impossible. I have been searching around Craigslist and sending a million emails and I'm getting almost nothing in return. I know it's only been a couple of hours but I'm really desperate--and poor! Ideally, I wouldn't like to spend more than $1800 on the living situation as a whole, but that's difficult enough in DC without my parentally imposed, ridiculous requirement. My internship runs from June 1-July 15.

I was hoping there were PAers in the greater DC area or within DC who could help me find a place? Or at least give me advice beyond craigslist? Because I have been on that site all day sending emails like a motherfucker...

A thread on the same subject from last week. Most of it applies the same. You're unlikely to find a place for under $700 anywhere near your internship.

Thing is, I have...the place I found before was $550/month (although the guy was a dick) and I've been finding all these listings for roommates:

    http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/roo/1746463645.html

    ...to name only a few

but the issue is the men and I have no idea how to reason with my parents because the last time I brought up living with men in the house my mom called me a whore. So. :?

Go with the dorm. Take out a loan from your folks and get a job to pay them back.
Finding short term housing is a class A headache.

I already have a job...it's just minimum wage.

I have a feeling that I am going to have to end up going with the dorm option, but it is going to bankrupt me...it's also a 50 minute walk from the Cannon House building, with no metro stations nearby.

That Class A headache is quite terrible at the moment

I'm not saying there aren't places that cheap. It's just really unlikely that you'll get them, (or get them without problem as you've seen), especially after you're so close to your deadline. All you can really do is keep scouring craigslist and hope, but be ready to spring for that dorm or something similar, or buckle down and take a place your parents don't approve of.

My wife did an unpaid internship in DC while we were living in LA. She stayed in an all-girl dorm called Thompson Markward Hall. (Google Map) As you can see from the map, it's right on the hill, across from the Hart Senate office building. Looking at the website, it looks like you get your own private room and they feed you two squares a day (breakfast and dinner). It's $900 a month, but your situation is exactly why this place exists.

    Edit

And it's .5 miles from the Cannon House office Building.

Heh, I was the person who started the previous thread. I ended up lucking out with an old friend of the family, but one of the places I was considering was a dorm at Catholic. They are out of singles, but they did have doubles left as of Monday (and of course they would pair you with a female). They are $27 a night, so it would come out to $1215for your month and a half, and it is close to the metro and 3 stops from Union station.
