I use none of the things you've mentioned, and I do just fine. For a light, the shotgun is easier. Just get right up behind them with stealth, and right click a few times. Massive damage.
For heavy, the basilisk is much easier than the rocket launcher.

Eh, depends, you can be a lot more destructive with the RL.
The shotty is easier up to use then the boltgun, but not as effective over distances.

But a newbie shouldn't be trying to snipe, and especially not with a projectile weapon.
Rocket Launcher is NOT a newbie friendly weapon at all. Especially if you play on FF servers, you'll get ppl mad at you. :P plus, its not all that good (imho). I think a minigun and thermal is much better for a newbie. And the boltgun definitely used to be my favorite light weapon, but now its been surpassed by the smartlocks. Shotgun is much better as well, really i think the Boltgun is the weakest of the light weapons in V1. But a lot of these things are my preference, effected by the fact that i am pretty bad at sniping with LR.
I've been generally using Pistols with lights, GL when med, and Basilisk when heavy.
Decking is so awesome now. Still a bitch when you have a couple really good deckers defending the other side, but the new system make the programs much more controllable in Cyberspace. I love it.
The problem with the rocket launcher is that it has too much downtime to go on the offensive, but it's very effective at scaring the other team into not rushing from the defensive side. I used the RL extensively in beta, but I just can't get a good feel for it in v1. Maybe because the Basilisk is pretty decent at ranged.
Damn. Installed Dystopia and finally finished downloading the Source SDK Base only to find that when I start either I get a flash of the menu then a black screen and a blinking cursor. I can, however, hear the quite nice menu music for Dystopia.
edit: Fixed! Time to give my old light+stealth+shotty build another go.
I just have normal source/HL2 problem, the stuttering sound crash every once and a while. Always when i'm about to cap an objective, or i'm the lone man defending one. :P
Also, ABUSE the SWT implant. Rarely anyone uses it, and it's the most if not best, helpful implant of all.
Definitely. I only started using it last patch and it is just incredibly useful- nothing like being able to see people's footsteps through walls.
Absolutely nothing is more satisfying then waiting in front of a door, watching them step closer and closer, only to bash them in the head with a fatman fist, or katana.
Even if they aren't moving, it tells you where they are and where they are shooting?
Pretty much, they have to stand completely still, and continue to do so, without firing anything, at all, if they make even a single step, or shoot a bullet, you'll know where they are.

I find it amusing that dystopia will never be vulnerable to hackers because a wall hack is built right into the game

Nah, it will just make it harder to tell the difference. A wall hacker could have all the advantages of the implant without having it. Plus, aimbotting would be deadly with the ridiculous damage of the laser rifle headshot.

ehh... I figured that people would decide not to go through the trouble since it is in the game.
but more importantly people can compete with hacking players. Thats good.

I used to take the SS just to fuck with all you SWT guys.
I was also the master of EMP/ Cortex Bomb runs into the second hack point on Vaccine.
Team Boltgun Ninja, Go!
i hate being in an an empty server by myself
Those are just slightly reworded from what Dystopia says. It did not work for me until I installed CS:S with it.

You see, because I'm a team player.
