Ugg, I've been getting killed in PvP lately. I've been doing my normal get to four Warp Gates as quick as possible thing, but every PvP I've played lately, I've gotten beaten to Immortals, and by the time I tech up to them, it's too late, he has Colossi.
I really need to work an earlier Robo in to my build, even if it's just for the observer. I think I am just getting a robo too late, regardless.

I've had some success skipping robotech altogether as protoss and going for gateway units + air. If he gets early immortals, you can counter them with a quick phoenix—just grav beam the immortals and then waste his ground army. Later on you get your choice of void rays and carriers. I prefer carriers, but I like to keep one void ray around to send at their nexus while I launch an attack somewhere else. You can also try going directly for a void ray, but they're less useful in confronting an opponent's army.
The big drawbacks are that you need more micro to defeat a standard build and you don't get access to observers right away. On the plus side, you're also less vulnerable to forcefield micro and more able to use that spell yourself.

So I take it your micro is to have the Phoenixes gravaton the Immortals while your ground army cleans up the inevitable stalkers that come with the immortals?

Yeah, that's pretty much it. The problem is that immortals aren't that much more expensive than phoenixes (take the same amount of gas and 100 more mins, although they do take double the supply) and are more useful in general. Don't build extra phoenixes or you'll be lacking in a ground army. Actually just grabbing a void ray might be more useful; I'm not sure.
This is kinda theoretical though as my usual defense against an early immortal push is forcefield or lots of zealots, even if I plan on going air instead of robo.
For the people curious about the MSL, first post here will have a few possible streams when it happens. Just don't bother reading anything posted beyond that, trust me.
And although the official start time is 4am EDT, there will be commentators talking, interviews, KPop, and a whole lot of commercials. 5am is more likely. There will be long breaks between games. So realize, if you want to watch it all live, staying up until 7am would be likely, if not longer. This is if there isn't a catastrophic computer related error, which would make this even worse.

Yah, I try and micro forcefield to help, but I just seem to get overrun. It could also be my macro lagging behind, it's hard to say.

The key is to know that he's coming ahead of time (via observer, phoenix, or a probe at one of the watchtowers).
Then you just wait for half of his army to pass your choke and drop a forcefield. As long as you know he's coming it's really easy and you probably only need one sentry.
I just finished a Protoss v Zerg game (I was zerg) where I tried out denying expansions with an overlord carrying a queen. They would travel from expansion to expansion, the overlord generating creep and the queen hopping out, crapping out a creep tumour, and hopping back in. I also managed to plant some tumours on his mineral line.
The guy claimed his minimap was busted, so I may have gotten lucky with the matchup.
Anyways, I'm in the silver league - does this happen in more skilled leagues? Or is it worthless?
(I'm trying to upload the replay but sc2rc isn't loading)
Let's play some. Seriously. I got ONE response last time.
See my forum name? Yeah, take that, only put a at gmail dot com afterwards.
What kind of games are you playing? If they're large team games I have no interest.

Man, just won one the most dickish game I've played. Was going to try to 2 marauder rush cause I think I saw it in a day9 thing and I forgot that unlike him, I'm terrible at this game. So anyway, I'm about to get my first marauder when I see a pylon going down, so I'm like whatever, I'll stick with the plan and drop his pylon on my way out. I end up getting 2-gated hard and panic a bit, but eventually send my SCVs to another base and float my orbital command off to an island. I try to fly the raxs off but by now he's got stalkers and they die. He finds my non-island base, so I float it off to the other base. At this point I'm thinking, well, I don't stand a chance, but I'll make him wish he hadn't ruined my poor attempt at what is a poor strategy. The missile turrets come up, and 4 stargates go down with an armory for upgrades. 2 tech labs for banshees and 2 reactors for vikings. He tried to push in with warp prisms but got held off by the turrets, and I guess he kinda stagnated. He put down 6 stargates to pump void rays, but I swept in with vikings and dropped a sizeable fleet of them.
Long story short, I kept harrassing with banshees and vikings, he didn't keep up with his economy, and he quit because he wanted a short game. I almost feel bad, but the graph at the end shows that he really had never tried to keep up after thinking he'd won the game, so I almost certainly would've gotten it without the GG.
Watching Day9s blip tv thing a little bit made me decide to buy this game once it comes out. Ive seen starcraft pro matches and i thought i wouldnt ever be able to have fun in a game like this but his explanations make it seem possible.
Gonna need some people to help out once i buy this as the betas over right so ill be behind...

Yeah, I'm so glad this thread pointed me to Day9. I even get useful tips from the stuff he doesn't point out. For example, just seeing how pros place their Supply Depots was really enlightening for me.

The matchmaking system really is total shit at this point, I hope Blizzard realizes that. I haven't gotten a match that wasn't against someone a league or two higher than me in hours. Don't give me the line of bullshit that there aren't other silver league players online.

Day[9]'s enthusiasm for the game is frighteningly contagious. I can come off a bad losing streak, tune in one of his casts, and 20 minutes later I'm excited to try something out again.
Speaking as someone who is completely sucking it up in the current gold league, it is still totally possible to have fun while sucking. And then you can feel good when there's marginal improvement to your sucking.
Every time I fight off a 7 pool or a cannon push or a proxy rax, I feel so goddamn good now. And it's just little things, like remembering to check your natural, and knowing if your opponent's base seems odd in some way.
Unrelatedly, I got completely trounced in a ZvP on Desert Oasis. I saw two gateways go down and assumed a two gate zealot push, so I made a few too many zerglings and a couple spine crawlers. Tech up to Mutas and find out he's supplemented himself with 4 phoenixes and a void ray. Then he made himself a nice little gateway army with a few immortals, supplementing with the odd phoenix and void ray. Utterly removed any map control the mutas might have given me, panicked me into making spore crawlers, and after a blown up expansion and most of my units dying, I GGed out rather than prolonging his win.
When you're bored of the same old team games and you want to dick around, don't decide to find out how bad and useless infested terrans are. Then don't let your partner go infestors which turns into queens.
Just don't do it. Nothing good can come from it.
I wish zerg had more units, if only so there were more "bad" units you could mess around with.

dropped an infested terran on a guy's expo last game
3 scv's dropped dat SOB with zero losses
might have been 4, my camera might have gotten there late
but anyway, the real reason i came here to post: fuck siege tanks
this guy was so bad and i was so frustrated because of the siege tanks that i lost to him... i could have easily teched to brood lords to take care of both the missile turrets and the siege tanks
but it was the fact that it was desert oasis, and he was doing the biggest bullshit, scanning my base with siege tanks in siege mode outside FUCKING up my buildings...

i want to know whose idea it was to make infested terrans 125 mana to cast
sure they're pretty good for about 20 seconds when your entire army consists of overseers, buuut

No chat channels? Not even private chat channels?
...
but you can only be in one clan
soooo it is balls and a half
Battle.net: Fireflash#1425

So it follows the WoW model. One guild with guildchat.
But in WoW you can just make channels that all your friends can be on all willy-nilly like, which is what people are looking for here.

Why yes, I will in fact place a turret, bunker, and siege tank in this one spot and deny your main all day on the cheap.
Maybe even float a rax a bit over for near permanent vision of the area.
I hate desert oasis and I'll take it out on you, that's why.
So would it actually worth it registering on youtube/digg/twitter for something like this? Do these things work?
I'm being sincere, if it has a 1% chance of working I'll do it.
