Working on my submissions for the Polycount Pack contest:

Suggest that it attack faster and cause less damage per hit, so it's actually a sawing weapon. Possibly with a higher overall DPS to offset the better spike damage of other bonesaws.
How about make it do really terrible damage, but it heals the medic for a certain amount?
Basic idea is instead of doing the "melee dance" where people try to dash in, get a hit, then back away before they get hit themselves.. make the entire point of the weapon to get in someone's grill and chip away at them.
This would be fun and kind of fits with the medic's style. You'd be risking yourself by moving forward to get some shots in, but you could be rewarded by full health if you have some help or catch someone distracted. I don't think the medic needs any more killing power, just some more fun toys that emphasize different tactics.
Saw deals less damage than the normal Bonesaw on-hit, but inflicts "Wounded" HP in damage. "Wounded" HP are sort of like overheal HP, in that they are temporary and slowly diminish, but they count against your maximum HP. So let's say that this new saw does 75% of the damage of the normal saw-- putting it around the 45 to 55 range per swing (ROUGH MATH). Every time you hit the guy, he loses 50ish max HP. If that puts him below his current real HP, he drops to his new cap. Wounded HP loss slowly recovers over time, though slower than the overheal.

I also like it, but it seems like there should be some limit maybe. Like after it gets the person to 50% of max health it just does like 30% or 50% of the saw's damage without wounding anymore, so you could still kill with it but it would be more difficult to use it to get a kill, making its primary use to lower the max health of an enemy rather than just kill them.
It seems like they don't want any fancy effects for the default melee weapons. If anything, they'll buff some aspect of the Medic and have the Ubersaw remove the buff.

I just wanna shoot mans! Stupid people and not just keeping HL2 installed.
They released a bigass update for HL2 that adds achievements, high dynamic range lighting, and a bunch of other stuff. Basically it necessitated a re-download.
I remember when I said, "BLUE BOX CONFIRMED FOR FALL 2010" in the portal thread, and everybody got hysterical and excited while I was away in the restroom.
By the way guys the Engi update is supposed to land tomorrow night.
Given that they released the Steam version of HL2 at the same time as a giant update that's been in the works for years, I suspect they'll do the same for TF2: Release the Engy update at the same time as the Mac version. (Which is listed on staem as "coming soon")
I'm guessing it's either TF2 or CS: Source next. (With CS: Source's new version going live.)
Also I so crafted away my Tyrolean as soon as I got a Pickelhaub.
I found four or five Picklehaubes before I found my first Tyrolean. I ended up crafting all of them away. The only dupes I have now are the Glengarry Bonnet and Fancy Fedora, but fuck the rebuild headgear blueprint.
On the plus side, last night I played TF2 for the first time in months and I'm one reclaimed metal away from having 12 refined.

Hats I crafted: Two spy beards, two Ten Gallons, Demfro, Batter's Helm and some others, I think.
As much as I love the Beanie, Pyro just looks so much better with the Modest Pile of Hat. Soldier's Stash is kind of meh, and the Bonnet is awesome. I have thought about crafting the stash and beanie, but I couldn't bring myself to it. I just need three more scrap metals to make a hat, so I'll craft the result and the Stash if I don't like it.

it is misc, but there's some bug where hats override it
valve must have initially coded it in as a hat, switched it to misc, and forgot to change some code
