Multiplayer is based in a free-roaming atmosphere, wherein the entirety of the map is available for you and your posse to do various activities, like hunt, take out gang hideouts, etc. See the videoS above for a more detailed look at both the free-roam and competitive multiplayer modes.
CO-OP DLC REVEALED
In addition to the deep single player campaign and robust online multiplayer components of Red Dead Redemption, we are also very happy to finally reveal the game’s co-op mode, which will be released FREE in June simultaneously for both consoles via Xbox LIVE® and PlayStation®Network, respectively.
The Outlaws to the End Co-Op Mission Pack will feature six all-new cooperative multiplayer missions to play with 2-4 players. This will be a completely free download that we will have ready for you to download and play at some time in June.
These six explosive and epic missions will play out across the game world, including:
“Walton’s Gold”
Walton’s Gang have taken control of a mining camp rich with gold. Fight through the camp and load your mine cart with as much gold as you can carry and get out as fast as you can – Walton’s boys have rigged the place to blow!
“The River”
Ride a raft down river, taking out rebel encampments along the way until you reach the rebel stronghold of Nosalida and a final epic battle for the town’s massive weapons caches. Watch out for Gatling gun-equipped enemy rafts.
“Ammunition”
The Mexican Army has the town of Tesoro Azul under siege. Storm the gates under heavy cannon, Gatling gun and sniper fire to destroy the Mexican artillery placements.
Plus three more missions to be revealed in detail soon.
The Outlaws to the End Co-Op Mission Pack will also yield additional multiplayer XP rewards, and brand new Achievements/Trophies to unlock.
Stay tuned for much more information – as well as release information and pricing on two further downloadable content updates, which we plan to release over the summer. Both of them will also be available simultaneously for both consoles.

Also, despite the fact that I've played the hell out of this, I still don't know what the golden guns preorder does.
So what do they do? Besides, be gold.
It is a fun game.
Control scheme is total ass though on PS3. God I wish anything could be remapped.

Aside from shooting being on the mushy triggers (which I agree is ass), what's wrong with the control setup?
Well that's cool I suppose. Thanks.
I've kinda got a bone to pick with this game, because cougars are one of my favorite animals, and this game's really giving them a bum deal.
If the next Red Dead turns snow leopards into godless cowboy killing machines, I'm drawing the line.
Feel free to toss me an invite if someone is doing some free roaming.

I think this is standard on both versions but Camera controls mess me up, I aim the stick up or down for aiming up and down, but in other games I also have the Camera inverted.. here both are stuck to the same
"...only mights and maybes."
That's my biggest beef in the game. The characterization at times is very good, and then at times it's very bad. And because it's very good at times, that makes the very bad times really stand out. I've only just gotten to Mexico, and I can already think of four characters in the game that I've never met anyone like in real life. Like you said, they're caricatures, and they just seem really out of place alongside characters like Bonnie or the marshal.

Problem solved.
I have these. They're multitudes better than the base triggers.
Rockstar games are nothing but stereotyped characters. A lot of those characters are still great characters, but still.
I think you need a new controller. I haven't had my triggers flick on and off at all.
"...only mights and maybes."
also people who wonder how duels work:
LT draws your gun immediately
Tilting your right stick moves your hand closer to the gun and might make the other guy draw first (making him less accurate)
If he draws first, the screen will say DRAW and you should hit LT to get your gun out
At this point, you have to move your reticle to where you want to shoot, mark those locations (up to the number of bullets you have) with RT and, if you pick the right locations, fill up your bar in the bottom right before the enemy does.
The reticle will pulse - when it's small and white is the most accurate time to hit RT and put a mark on. When it's red, it's less accurate.
If you drew first, you'll be less accurate, so each mark will fill up the meter a bit less.
More vital areas fill up the meter more quickly. You can also be dramatic and shoot the guy's gun or hat to instantly fill the meter, leaving them alive, or go for a one-shot kill to the head or (rumored) heart.
It's a rockstar game and a Western that pretty much demands the characters all fall under Stereotype or Caricature.
Yes and yes.
Also next game they totally need some form of falconry represented. Playable, not playable, just throw it in there somewhere.

Couldn't stop grinning when that happened.
Also has anyone else seen packs of them (not just wolves?) go after prey? I saw a pack working together to take down a goat, they even hang around after the kill and start eating it.
i shot a couple and they turned and ran, which was pretty excellent. much more convincing animal behaviour.
Whenever I do that they come back in larger numbers.
The only animal I feel bad about killing so far is the armadillo, no real reason behind it I just do.
And in the second act
And in the third act
And in the last act of the game
All that extra, easily trimmable fat is likely the reason I'll never replay the game. Well, that and the fact that there are a couple of missions in this game that are terrible. Especially one towards the end.
I personally think the animal AI is better than the human enemy AI
"...only mights and maybes."
Bunch of griefing pubbies ('XxXXJeRkFaCeXxX' types etc) jerks wouldn't let us leave Fort Mercer, wasted a whole half-hour before getting to the last hideout. It's like a universal law of Xbox Live that the more X's you have in your gamertag, the bigger the douchebag you are.
I don't want realistic, I just want well written. And I know Rockstar traditionally is not precisely a bastion of skillful writing, but a guy can dream, can't he?
I got around that problem by traveling with a large posse. We took down Fort Mercer while dealing with asshole pubbies, then repeatedly spawn killed the pubbies and votekicked them after we got tired of it. Taught em not to fuck with us.
Shooting, as you mention, but also running (in fact switch the keys around and that would be enough to help considerably). I also keep accidentaly crouching instead of just running, and pressing the right stick down to trigger dead-eye feels awkward.
I fully realise a large part of this is just due to the fact that I'm really not used to playing shooters with a controller, but there's really no reason not to let the user remap functions to whatever suits them best.
