the problem with having a lot of your mark determined by pre-exam stuff is you get to the end of the semester and go "oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck okay I'll just study for like 2 weeks straight and the exam will be fine" but then whoops the exam is only 50% of your mark and fuuuuuuck you can't go back and fix your previous fuckups

Isn't 50% a lot? I consider the final to be a huge part of the grade if it's 30% or above. Man, I'd be pissed if my grade was more than 50% riding on a single test. I hate having that much riding on that little.

50% is the class with the least riding on the final for me
2 of them are 50%, one is 70% exam, and the other is up to 100% exam (it's either exam, or a weird 1:2 weighted average of exam and homework+midterm mark)

One of my courses I actually forgot about a test worth 10% of the mark, and put off doing the lab report because I had something bigger due, but I get to make up for it with an exam worth 50% of my mark, and composed entirely of 72 multiple choice questions.

Still a couple weeks left of school. Guh. Every one of my classes this quarter are all riding the curve so no one knows what the hell their grade is and won't until we get our final grades in our transcripts.

So until the summer, I have several more homework assignments, I have to redo the entirety of my Comm Theory midterm and describe what/why I got stuff wrong so I can get a 10% chunk added to my final grade, 3 finals and a research presentation with a MATLAB example of the "zoom FFT" function.

That bothers me so much.

It's something you do need to weigh up, and I don't know how much of a hassle transport is for you, but all else being equal it's better to go to the classes. You'll pay more attention and you can ask questions when you don't understand something.

I'd probably pay more attention yes, but it's a 200+ person class and I've never really been one to ask questions. It's a freshman-level bio course that I'm taking as a senior because it's a gen-ed for engineers, so the content isn't really a problem. Just memorizing frustrating BS and looking over old multiple-choice exams.

I'll be going in for the review days and obviously exam days, but other than that it's not worth the extra hour of driving.

my advisor was completely wrong. one of my classes wont transfer and they calculate gpa differently,

so i wasted a semester and 2000 dollars retaking classes that were supposed to replace, but instead of replacing my grade like he said they would, it only raised my gpa .2 points. while my community college grade is still an entire point above the required, measly 2.0 I needed, the gpa they calculated is not

I don't know what to do, this was supposed to be a solution to not being homeless in three months and finally going back to school andi don't know what to do

my view of community college has changed, it's so not worth it,. i am such a fuckup, oh my god.

Have you spoken to an advisor about this, Pillow, or is this the calculation given to you off of the school's student website to track your 'academic progress?' At my school, at least, the website's calculations are always, always wrong and when you go see an advisor they recalculate it the correct way.

I've found this to be the case especially with transfer grades and replacement grades.

So maybe it'll be okay?

I called the uni and they showed me how I could go to my cc's transcript and calculate it the way they did. He was really friendly and showed me where the grade differed exactly, and gave me a website so I can now check which courses from that school won't transfer. Even the way they calculated it, I only needed a few decimal points!

I'm done freaking out now, so yeah, it'll be ok. I'm just not good with plans. I'll get it right next time.

Haven't had a class in 3-4 years. I start Spanish Intermediate 1 tonight at a local community college.

My life is about to be the show Community. I am the Jeff Winger only instead of a fake bachelors, I stopped 4 credits away (but really a 4th level language requirement) in 2006.

I hope my study group has some good characters in it.
