So yeah, I finally completed Mass Effect 2 for the first time last night ^^ 30 hours played in total, and I loved every minute of it.
As with the first game, it was the end that was the highlight.
Worked for ages getting my entire crew (including Zaeed and Kasumi) loyal. Was quite difficult with Zaeed, had to abandon those poor colonists so he could get his mark. Felt sort of wrong with my Paragon-Shep, but the mission had to take priority.
Got every upgrade for the Normandy that I could, and spent a good few hours trawling the galaxy for resources and upgrades for the team. Actually sneaked back home and did some sneaky, possibly illegal mining on Jupiter and Saturn :P
Oh, and Shep got his freak on with Tali :P
We eventually came to it, the Omega-4 Relay, flew in and the most glorious cut-scene unfolded. Myself, Grunt and Legion killed the Occulus in the cargo bay, the shields and armour held in the debris field, and we pulverised the Collector Ship sent to destroy us. The Normandy crashed on the Collector Base, all hands still alive and kicking.
Then it came to the hard parts, the splitting of your team. The team that in the past 30 hours I had come to love and respect (yes, even Jacob). I didn’t want anything to befall these brave men, woman and mono-genders. But the decisions had to be made.
I sent Legion to hack the Collector terminals and doors, and I asked Garrus to lead the second team (much to Miranda’s annoyance). I decided that Tali and Grunt would come with me (mirroring my ME1 team of Tali and Wrex).
We fought through the Collector assaults, twice almost missing the gate triggers, but we pulled through with the whole team surviving. We discovered the kidnapped Normandy crew, saving Dr Chakwas but not the peculiarly touchy-feely Yeoman Chambers.
Again big decisions time. Someone had to take Chakwas and the survivors back to the Normandy. I picked Zaeed. He could chew through anything with grenades and bullets to get the job done. I wanted Jacob and Legion with me for the second part, with Samara leading us through the horrific seeker swarms. Felt like I had to kill Harbinger-possessed Collectors every five seconds, but again we made it.
Oh and bravo on Bioware for drama. Made it through the second section, met up with the team again, only for Garrus to take a shot to the gut in the last second. I honestly cried out and panicked, but Garrus is a tough old bitch, and just stood back up and nodded.
And so we came to it, the final push, where we had to split into one team to blow the base, and one team to fight a rear-guard. I chose Tali and Samara for my team, as Tali’s drones attracted Collector aggro fantastically, and regardless of shields or barriers Samara’s Reave would cut through ‘em. Big speech from Shep, tears welled, chests puffed and the final fight unravelled.
Fought across floating platforms and killed Harbinger another good few dozen times (dozy bugger kept attacking Tali’s drone, you’d think he’d learn) and arrived at the central chamber for the big reveal.
A Human Reaper. OMG! A Human goddamn Reaper.
Blew its umbilical pipes, killed Harbinger some more and started to plant the bomb. Our good friend The Illusive Man finally showed his hand in wanting to preserve the base, but that’s a no-go for Paragon-Shep. We plant the bomb and prepare to rejoin the rearguard.
Then the bloody Reaper gets up and starts shooting.
Awesome boss battle follows, awesome, awesome, awesome!!!
Kill the Reaper on the first try, flee the scene to the Normandy, another awesome cut scene. The Collector Base explodes, the Normandy’s TL kicks in and we jet off.
Entire crew survived! Yes!
Shep is full Paragon! Yes!
He tells the Illusive Man he isn’t a Cerberus Pawn and now Shep is calling the shots! YES!
Cue credits and tears that it’s over.
TL: DR – ME2 is AWESOME!!!
Man, I love this game!

You don't actually have to forsake the colonists if your paragon's high enough; you can still save them and get his loyalty. Try it with a new game. You get to Shepard punch him!
I kinda dig shaved chicks, but I would also enjoy seeing what Jack would look like with hair in ME3.
That would cover up some of her tattoos and that is COMPLETELY unacceptable.
Plus I'm not really seeing a reason why she'd stick around for ME3. I guess it's time for the Mass Effect thread to start talking about who's going to make the cut for ME3?
Maybe this time we won't be limited to one character per race except humans.
(gotta hit those quotas).
Actually doing a run on insane right now. Is it just me or are the geth just that easy? The difficullty level has some weird spikes going on. My old man who doesn't play vidoegames had a go on Tali's recruitment mission and was just chewing through them, and fairly suprised when I pointed out it was the hardest difficulty, but then you get to the first part of the collector ship.

Well, Geth with Tali and/or Legion are a breeze.
It's just hack, wait for them to kill each other, hack, wait again, hack, etc.
Yet, it is funny how fun that is. Speaking of Overlord, I'm taking Legion with me.

Man Geth are not just that easy. ME2 Geth would murder the fuck out of those punk ME1 Geth.
Once you get a few levels up, ME2 Geth are pretty damn brutal.
I dunno. There's only a few areas I have problems with them, and in all cases I'm getting pinned down by the grunts (often from multiple sides, like right before the end of Tali's loyalty mission) while flamethrowers or similar baddies run up in my face.
...and, beat! That was a good two-and-a-half hours. Got two achievements out of it too.
Loved the elevator music gag. The hub area was very pretty. The solo fights were rather unexpected though, and I died a few times in the last battle. My poor engineer isn't meant for absorbing bullets! The hammerhead platforming sections were cute, and thankfully hammerhead combat was kept to a minimum. Loved those space cows too!
It would appear that I am physically incapable of playing a game that does not have both "mass" and "effect" in the title, so ME1 insanity run is a go!
...How the hell do you kill the krogan at the end of Liara's rescue mission? This shit is crazy hard!
Maybe you bring Zaeed and Jacob on a few missions, then see them chatting in the mess in between at some point.
Zaeed isn't big on "chatting".
Zaeed in the mess, lovingly stroking Jessie, as he eats mashed potatoes
Reminiscently mumbling about their past adventures
Zaeed in the mess, telling Garrus about all the times his team died and he got out, feeling great about it.
Garrus's left eye twitches furiously.
Calamari for dinner, eh? This takes me back... have you ever had 'Krogan Calamari'? They sell it fancy, but it's meat from a Thresher Maw. Usually a little gamey, unless you can bag a female, but forget that.
One time, I was part of a crew that tried to hunt a Maw for the meat. Dangerous work, but it pays well. You can get a thousand credits a pound from the right planet. We killed a juvenile on the third day out in the wilds of this desert planet. Took us a few hours to strip the carcass, and nobody on this crew had hunted Maws very much, so they didn't know that if you killed a juvie, you better goddamned well be outta there within the hour.
Sure enough, the mother showed up and started eating grown men whole. Ol' Jessie and I weren't about to take that shit laying down, so we put enough rounds into this beast to kill a platoon of krogan, but that's the thing with females. They're bigger, and if you kill the baby, she gets pretty goddamned pissed off. It wasn't until I put some explosives on a corpse and threw it to her that the bitch finally went down.
By that point, I was the only one who made it out alive. I gutted the female as well as I could, put it on the ship, and used that money to start the Blue Suns. Best goddamned hunting trip of my life.
after wasting over two fucking hours fucking around on games for windows live trying to get red faction: guerilla to work, yes yes a thousand times yes

Well, some people say squad cyro works then you switch back to inferno while your partners freeze people. That is somewhat effective now that I've used it myself.

I only used toxic or polonium rounds on my insanity run of ME1. Kept constant enemy immunity under control.

That's a solid idea, but most of my difficulty currently is surviving long enough to get into cover. I've gone back to a save prior to entering the mission because I feel like I need better gear. It'd be nice if there was a decent exploit to get SPECTRE weapons right at the start. Well, without doing a new game+ of course.

All right, Overlord DLC downloaded. Only had to buy 400 MS points to do it because I had 170 left over.
Of course, now I have this random 10 MS points I still can't get rid of, and I don't know that I ever will.

This cheeses with the AI a little, but makes it quite doable.
1) See that sniper in the back? DO NOT TOUCH HIM.
2) Chase that Shock Trooper to the right behind one of those thingies. Kill him.
3) Pop out of cover and nail the other shock trooper. STAY OUT OF THE FIRING ARC OF THAT SNIPER.
4) Rain death upon the krogan. He's a pain in the ass and will stay under cover; you'll have to figure out how you can nail him without getting shot (and killed if this is reasonably early) by that sniper. Might take a few times of running around before you get it. If he starts charging, turn around, smack your run key, and make for behind one of the pylons. Or smash him with a lift or a throw. In a pinch, a powerful enough singularity (from an adept) might stop him; anybody else's he'll just ignore.
5) Once he's dead, NOW you can turn around and deal with that annoying sniper.
Once all the geth are dead, the krogan shifts to RAR VANGUARD CHARGE mode and shit gets real; by keeping that last sniper unharmed, usually he'll be content to plink you and throw some biotics.

I was all on a satellite and the Geth were all "Beep-bleep-boop" ("It's Shepard! Stop him!")
