Maybe I'm a bad mage (entirely possible), but there was a Tranquillen quest to explore a cave\mine full of trolls that absolutely kicked my butt and instantly made me stop playing that character. My belf pally left that zone at about level 15 to quest in The Barrens.

Eversong and the Ghostlands are a good leveling area for Horde side, starting out. And I agree about the music for Eversong. The Blood Elf theme is pretty good.

There's also that small island in the Ghostlands where night elves are docked, that island has some unique music going to it. It's the only place I've heard it at.

I liked Hellfire Peninsula, because you rediscover the Mag'har and get to do cool 5 mans where you learn about Magtheridon and how the Fel Orcs have him trapped in there, etc. I agree it's ugly as shit, but it's also really easy to wipe out 5-10 quests at a time if you do them in the right circuits. Now with heirlooms, I usually get my characters 58-62 or 63 before I get the 90/90 achievement, and I don't mind doing it. I'm on my 6th character going through the zone.

Ewwwwww, the Barrens. Ghostlands was good to get you to level 20 pre heirlooms, and probably about 22 now. Pre heirlooms the blue weapon you get at the end of the quest to kill the elite guy down at the end of the dead scar was bad ass too, but that's not important anymore. Also, I've been through Ghostlands on over half a dozen characters and I don't remember a troll cave. There are a couple quests over by the hawkstrider retreat that have you kill trolls, but I don't think there's a cave of them? It's also 6:30 in the morning and it's been a while, so I could be misremembering.

I think that Durotar/Barrens is easily the worst zone to level in.

It looks pretty, but there's so much mindless running.

It's a burial chamber. Gotta set some embalmed trolls on fire. Escort quest too.

Was that area ever hard, though? I remember making an orc hunter back in TBC and leveling in that zone. I was even able to solo the final quest for the blue reward. This was before heirlooms or anything.

The items you can get on level 80 characters to pass on to low level characters that give bonus exp gains and the stats on the items go up as the character levels.

They make low level character several times stronger, and then even out as you progress. Makes levelling less of a chore.

I was just saying that I didn't find that zone painful at all before there were such things. Though I was a hunter, which is the most solo friendly class.

In listening to the music from the WotLK intro trailer, my thoughts now turn to Cataclysm and if we'll get a motherfuckin' trailer before autumn.

I have every confidence in their ability to roll out something amazing.

I have been joking around with people saying it's going to come out on 8/9/10 but that is a Wednesday in September. That is before Blizzcon but about a month after Starcraft so I really don't know.

I played a few hunters because I was curious how they worked and got a pet and so on to level 10-15 before I would get a pet it has the most painful and steep learning curve of kiting after it's easy

When I was leveling my mage it was late TBC. Same with the pally. At least on the pally, I know I was doing it wrong since I was trying to level as prot. I believe the mage was frost. All of these are tempered with the 'I was probably doing it wrong' stance.

The only bad thing about Zangar is that the quests weren't as well laid out as HFP or other TBC zones. Like they don't spiral outward from hubs necessarily, there's a lot of running around wildly. But they're easy, and it carries you for a bit in levels.

It's also blue and easy on my eyes.

For me, it's mostly the alien mushrooms and the awesome ambient music that does it for me.

Although, most of WoW's music, especially in the expansions, is fucking amazing.

I'm hesitant to refer to the entirety of the music as being amazing (let alone fucking amazing). A lot of the music is just kinda there, and few tracks stand out to me as being good.

I think my favorite songs from vanilla WoW are actually the tracks you'd hear running up and down the Barrens. It's very passive music and kinda just fits that mood of "Yeaaaaaaaaah I'm gonna be here for a while."

Before Blizzcon is a good release date for Cataclysm. Maybe on 8/9/10 (which is August, not September, since I'd assume they go by Month/Day/Year), as it's a Monday (Tuesday night game releases are common).

But I doubt they really want to go THREE Blizzcons going "Hey look! Our next expansion is...almost sort of kind of nearly about ready to have the finishing touches planned!"

Not everyone works Monday to Friday.

I wrote 8/9/10 as most people* do the day the month then the year * most people are outside of the US
It will be rather interesting if it's not out before Blizzcon I am not going because I can barely afford it but still I would go to see the awkward questions of Why and the answers given in person

The funny thing is most minimum wage jobs in the states have time clocks that work on 24 hour time, so more people know the time conversion by reflex than you'd think.

To be honest IMO at low levels especially Mages feel 'harder' to level, especially on quests where you can't reliably single pull, because you die so damn easily to adds. Especially tight quarters like that burial chamber area you mentioned. You really should try to quest an alt all the way through Ghostlands if you never have though. I remember when I came back to the game for good a few years back and made the char that would become my main(BE Paladin), and just how epic it felt working my way down the dead scar and eventually fighting Dar'khan, a lieutenant in the Lich King's army. =) Ah, to be a newb again.

But most of the BE quest givers are bitches/dickheads. At least that was my overall feeling. I get the Orc's and their militaristic quest giving attitude, and the UD's conniving but subtle way of getting you to do things. Heck, the Cows are pretty decent quest givers (fuck mulgore leveling though!). The BE's just rubbed me wrong. The best thing about their questing was, imo, it was designed with running in mind. Things are for the most part, pretty close to Tranquillen. As opposed to The Barrens where you need to run for 5 minutes to get the harpies, 5 minutes back to turn the quest in. Oh, what's that? You need me to go back there and kill some more harpies? :?

When I get my pally to 80 (and relatively geared), the last character I'm leveling this expansion is the rogue. Cata has a goblin warrior and a troll druid in my future.

Being a dickhead is just part of the low level BE lore, really. They're arrogant and highly intelligent magic obsessed elves after all. =) Shit, my Paladin started out using the light because they imprisoned Mu'ru and made him help them. I think throughout the course of TBC the BE story advances in a nice way, to where we are now with Liadrin leading the Blood Knights into a new era of actual paladinhood and the BEs becoming a bit more humble as part of the horde.

It may be part of the low level lore, but I don't want to deal with them.

I try to roleplay (in my head only) my characters, and I didn't want my pally to be a bitch. I wanted her to be a helpful, nice Blood Elf who happens to be mechanically inclined. She would reject the haughty and arrogant ways of her people to be an example of someone who is willing to give up everything to follow their goals. Her parents have disavowed her because of her association with goblins and their explosives (heh).

It may not hold up to some of the more intense RP'ing, but that's the base for her.

I totally get the nice guy thing, in fact I prefer that type of attitude too, but just know that whether you liked it or not, your BE Pally was party to imprisoning Mu'ru and torturing him in order to be able to cast Holy Light on yourself. :P
