That sounds like an entirely reasonable way to celebrate Sonic's 20th anniversary. Green Hill was one of the best levels in Adventure 2, and that game wasn't even built to handle 2.5d.
Doesn't it just sound like exactly what they would do, though? It allows them to use an engine that's reviewed very well on its own, but for a game founded entirely on nostalgia. Fans complain when they try new things, fans complain when they try to "return to form", it almost makes too much sense.
No I would expect them to do something involving a million new characters, some big gimmick, and I dunno... moon levels.
It sounds like something that is entirely all too reasonable for Sega's approach to Sonic.
No he's pretty right actually, SA2 isn't really as great as people remember it being. It's basically the game which started Sonic down this long, angsty road he's only now just gotten out of.
Think I'm gonna goozex Shadow the Hedgehog eventually. It's the only "modern" Sonic game I haven't played.
It's not very good.
I know this, but FFS I bought Sonic & the Black Knight so I feel I have to at least play the damn thing.
Yeah, Sonic & the Black Knight is actually much much worse.
Shadow the hedgehog is basically to Sonic Heroes, what Sonic Heroes was to Sonic Adventure 2. Same basic general game, with a shittier gimmick, and a lot more bugs. By the time Shadow rolled out, the formula had gone from stale to rotten.
Shadow wasn't the worst game. I would probably think of the game more fondly if I wasn't forced to beat it 10 times just to get the real ending. By the 4th time I was already sick of it.
This may sound silly, but I've always dreamed of playing a 3D Chemical Plant Zone. Bring on the nostalgia train, Sega.
I'm starting to feel I should finish up my collection of recent Sonic games. I used to buy them all, but held off on Shadow and Sonic 2006. I was just so disappointed in Heroes. And I had LOVED both Sonic Adventures. Seriously, hundreds of hours logged. Anyway, they're both dirt cheap, so I may as well get them.

I recently (a year ago.) cleared my save file and got the 180 emblems all over again. It's just as good as I remember.
At the start of the music in that trailer, was anyone else reminded of

I don't know, but he did forgo much needed groceries to pre-order the game. Luckily, his girlfriend didn't get mad at him once she saw what the hat looked like.
Anyway, this new trailer makes me feel all warm and cuddly inside. I'll feel even cuddlier once Sega posts a trailer on their channel that runs at a non-choppy frame rate. (Damn you, Gamespot!)
I preordered this today, and my girlfriend got mad because I spent $50 on this instead of groceries (which we need). But then I sat her down and showed her a picture of the pre-order bonus and she was totally on board
EDIT: Also, the dude at gamestop said a bunch of people have preordered this because of the hat.
yeah i pretty much want to preorder only for the hat :?
Are preorder bonuses guaranteed over there? In the UK they're all like "lawl, we'll maybe get a single one, three weeks after the game comes out, and the first person to ask for it after they get it without being told gets it", the cocks.
To celebrate the anniversary of the series, the game will remake many classic levels. From Destructoid:
Said to include a mixture of 2D and 3D environments, it would seem that Sonic Anniversary intends to collect and reimagine the very best stages in Sonic history. Each level will be "updated" for modern consoles, and the game is planned to launch on PS3, Wii, DS and PSP. An Xbox 360 release has not yet been announced, but it's highly improbable that Sega will skip it
...hmmm. I know this is a Sonic Colors thread, but I didn't know where else this would more appropriately fit, and didn't want to make an OP that had to be maintained for a year when there's others who are more passionate about it...

So I've been saying the 20th anniversary game was going to be huge for a while now, and we finally have the first solid details about the game.
It's called Sonic Anniversary (tentative title) and it's a collection of levels from Sonic 1 through Sonic & Knuckles remade using the Unleashed/Colors engine, in full 3D/2D.
Expect Knuckles and Tails to return, who will play like Sonic in Colors, only with their respective powers (flight, climbing, etc). Also expect flavored shields to return.
Wii, PS3, DS, PSP, and likely Xbox 360.
Get pumped.
EDIT: Excuse me, it's a collection of levels from Sonic 1 all the way to Sonic Adventure 2, remade using the Colors/Unleashed engine.
What? I don't care how reputable a source you are, TSR, I call bullshit.
I was just thinking about that, and fortunately we don't have to. He's still called Robotnik all over the place, it's just Sega corporate that keeps using the wrong name.
Folks don't seem to complain about the switch from "Princess Toadstool" to "Peach" or "Aeris" to "Aerith", but for whatever reason the Eggman situation really seems to bug folks.

the gameplay anyway
the cutscenes were second only to 2k6 in how terrible they were
I mean don't get me wrong it wasn't great by any means
but it was at least as good as SA2 I thought

What I played wasn't terrible, either. Just exceedingly average.

Like Mega Man Legends? Then check out my story, Legends of the Halcyon Era - An Adventure in the World of Mega Man Legends on TMMN and AO3!
and then the final level just followed one branch and ignored all the others instead of trying to tie them together somehow

At least it isn't Sonic '06.

Well TSr posted it so we could gather it was probably 99% for sure.
It's cool that this is happening.
For those of you who hate choppy video, here's the official one from Sega Europe.
