Getting SNES to work with LCD TV

I recently bought some AV cables so that I could get my SNES to work with my new TV. The problem is that when I turn on the SNES the TV still says that there is no signal. I know the AV ports work because I have a dvd player and PS2 plugged into them normally and have no problems with them.

I also know the AV cables I bought work because I tried them on the old TV in the house and it worked.

What can I do now to get my SNES to work on my new TV ?

    what are the av cables?

the old nes cables where RF? and that needs analog tuneing in

is the old tv a CRT and the new a LCD or plasma?

i have herd of lots of problems getting old stuff to work with new tvs.

i know that light gun games dont work.

avforums have some sagestions i think. problems from not working at all to artifacts and colourd bars on teh screen.

looks like its a very common problem

Is the SNES itself working? :P

edit: you said the AV cables you bought worked, I can't tell if this is with the SNES or not.

When I hooked mine up to an LCD I thought something was amiss but it just turns out I needed to clean my carts.

If you have or can borrow a N64 or Gamecube the AV cables have the same connection to the consoles to test them.

Edit: If you haven't played the SNES in a while then Madpanda's advice to clean the game is spot on. Just take a Q-tip with some rubbing alcohol to them and give them some time to dry.

Do you get sound, but no video? A lot of LCD screens have difficulty displaying low resolution images.
