Just tried this with my PS2 controller via USB converter.
For some reason the sprint button is triangle and jump is circle. That is awkward. I'd much rather it be square and x. Would have to figure out how to remap them if I felt like bothering, but even though it wasn't ideal it still pretty much confirmed to me that I much prefer keyboard for this game.

This Classic Controller Pro. Is this the Wii CC Pro? Does it plug straight into a USB port or does it need an adapter?
Yeah, the Wii controllers. Connect the Wiimote via bluetooth and have the software emulate keyboard input (because this game's non-360 device support is ballz), and it's beautiful.

Okay so I am rather perturbed.
Finally had some time to play, decided to finish Rapture light world (I'd left off after unlocking The Kid).
Got all the bandages and A+ on every level, was about to take on the boss but figured I'd count the bandages to be safe.
Everything seemed to be in order, and yet I only had 9/20 in the counter.
So I went back to the first warp zone and it showed zero bandages.
WHICH IS BULLSHIT. I did not beat that warp zone without getting both bandages. I don't think I've beaten ANY warp zones without getting both bandages, once I learned they all have two.
And yet it's saying that I beat it, but got zero bandages.
And I am perturbed.
That was the most difficult thing in the game for me so far, behind The Kid's warp zone. Granted once I 'learned' it it became significantly easier, but still. Argh!
Not bothering with it tonight, I tried a couple times and frame lag was killing me, but goddamn it.

There's a key config file in the game's directory - you can assign jump and run to different pad buttons.
Personally, I use my Classic Controller Pro. This pad is effing wonderful.
hi5 fellow CC using homie
All these other poor suckas don't know the joy of using a real G's d-pad.
Indeed. The thought of trying to play anthing on X360's D-pad hurt me to the very fiber of my being, so I got out the Classic - and it's awesome.

I use a Mayflash adapter, myself. Lets you connect two Classics (for that multiplayer goodness with emus and other stuff) to a single USB, and costs like 8 bucks. Easy, simple, and effective.
By the ay, Xzerol, the support is really pretty acceptable once you realize you can just reassign buttons in the config file inside the game's directory. I personally set it to Y=Run, B=Jump, as in the old Marios of my youth. Easier to synch than trigger finger-thumb, too.

Nah, my definition of "acceptable" doesn't involve hand editing a text file (whose filename was originally mispelled), and which doesn't allow you to define which directional axes to use or even all the inputs available (i.e. for opening menus and leaderboards and whatnot). To each his own, though.
You know, the way I complain about this game, you'd think I hate it or something. It's an excellent game which unfortunately is marred by what I feel is just utter sloppy half-assedness on the PC. I bitch because I love.

So I just got this thing because I loved the original Meat Boy and at 3.50$ I couldn't resist getting it.
http://steamcommunity.com/id/dacvin <- leaderboard thing so I can feel inferior for getting through the light world levels. I will never beat The Kid's zone.
I dread the idea of playing this with a keyboard or D-pad
After playing it on the keyboard for a bit, I understood the warning at the beginning of the game.
I've been rolling keyboard without much problems here (though the key placements is a bit weird to say the least). Mostly because I'm too much of a sloth to dig out a controller from my stuff, maybe I should do this and see how it goes.
Just a wired Xbox 360 controller seems to work really well with games these days since most of them are designed with that in mind. The D-Pad sucks but everything else is great.

X-running is fine in Mario, but using your thumb for both buttons in SMB is madness. Especially trying to use some of the alternate characters, where X is not necessarily for running.

hopefully i'll be getting a CCP > USB adapter for christmas this year so i can experience the wonderful as well
And yes, I did, in fact, use the run button when I needed it, and not all the friggin time.
Like, I can SEE what you typed.
I can READ the words even.
But they still make no sense to me.
It's pretty basic
You use the tip of your thumb to press X
Use the area right at the joint (would that be "the ball of your thumb?" I dunno) to press A
You can press and/or hold both at the same time or completely independently
It works fine
What I don't understand is how you're using the trigger. It doesn't seem like it would have enough precision for the ultra-precise timing you need to toggle X on and off for many things in this game, because pressing the trigger is a slower motion than pressing one of the buttons. I could understand using a shoulder button, I guess.

came back, they weren't there
fffffffffffffff
Let's see how long it lasts!
(1-5x btw, 5.63!)
EDIT: Beat a few more, and now my thumb hurts, and I really need to clean out my controller's A button again.
Both sound awkward
Right trigger run for life
Which stages, cause probably. And if they didn't reset the leader boards and fixed Naiji then that's just silly.

Dualshock 3 D-Pad works great for this game. I like the very precise movement controls, also no dead zone.
I'm liking the 360's analogue pad for the movements, I'm not sure how I'd get on with a dpad, my thumb would probably file away to nothing.

works pretty well
I definitely do it Mario-style, X to run, A to jump (on my 360 controller).
I imagine using a good D-Pad would be okay but I wouldn't dare try it on the 360 one.
what is the best gamepad to get for pc gaming?
also what is an option that is cheap?

Oh? I'll have to check my leaderboards again, I thought you hadn't finished everything.
Because that isn't how most of us play it, afaik.
Um, I haven't done the Dark Worlds yet. I made it through all seven regular worlds.
And yes, I did, in fact, use the run button when I needed it, and not all the friggin time.
My game crashes every time I try to load the leaderboards, I don't know why

That's a hell of an update. I like that you have to beat your creations before you can upload them; good show, Team Meat.
he's saying he let go during The Kid's stage
yeah, the flash version of Tower of Heaven did that too (have to beat the level before you can upload it) and i thought it was a good system
but yeah, this'll be a ballin' update
