What was that HL short film that was made some time ago where a couple of Resistance dudes are running around in a trainyard? I remember seeing that and thinking it was remarkably good for a fan project.

The problem with game-to-movie adaptations is that the movies are made by Hollywood types who generally have not the faintest, tiniest clue of what actually makes a game special. Even with a budget in the hundreds of millions, Prince of Persia was only a mediocre movie. It was very good for a game movie, but that's about it. It still wasn't great.
Making a good Half-Life movie would require the Hollywood folks to actually play the game and appreciate what is going on. Fat chance of that ever happening.

To be fair, a lot of Hollywood types generally have not the faintest, tiniest clue of what actually makes a good movie special.
I am not very good at SupCom 2. Played a skirmish against a hard turtle AI, figuring that'd take a bit of heat off me.
Instead my base is getting bombed by long range artillery so I start tossing shields everywhere while sending out an air swarm to kill that fucking arty. Air swarm fails, and I'm saving up research points for a nuke silo to get my vengeance. My shields are holding against the scattershot bombardment, and I'm 3 research points from the silo.
"Strategic launch detected"
Shields don't hold so well against nukes, it turns out.
Crushed episode 1 and all achievements, sans the one free bullet. Ep1 is shorter than I remember. It only took like two to three hours tops.
After you've beaten the game once you tend to be able to go faster through it. Knowing enemy placement and stuff like that. I'm pretty sure the second time I played through Portal I cut my time in half. However, that's an extreme example. Puzzle games tend to lead to this more than other genres unless the puzzles are randomized in some way.
I've been in the mood lately to play some sort of sim game or perhaps a new 4X. Is there anything on Steam worth picking up for reasonably cheap?
I already own Civ4 and Colonization. I also own GalCiv2. Not sure what else is good. That Railworks has been on sale a lot. Is that game any good? Is Sid Meier's Railroads any good?

Mostly just looking for suggestions right now.
As a note, Railworks is definitely a sim, but I'd be hesitant to call it a game :P
I think this is really the only way a movie based on anything Half-Life could work. You have to show other people in the conflict, similar to what Blue Shift did, with possibly a few glances at Gordon off in the distance doing his thing.
You can't just have "The Gordon Freeman Movie", because we've all seen that. We've all played it. We need to really see what else is going down in this human/combine war.
On that matter, I'd love to see a film bridging Half-Life & Half-Life 2. "The Seven Hour War" or whatever it was referred to as.

This scene alone made Doom worth watching in theatres. I was pumped.
Yeah, it's been confirmed as fake. But that doesn't mean it isn't cool, though!
That game can't come soon enough. Who on earth stops making their most popular series, on a cliffhanger no less, only to go make two entirely different series before coming back to it? It's madness.

I've also been looking for a good sim to play lately. I've narrowed it down to either Railroad Tycoon 2, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, or the first Tropico game. I've never played Sid Meier's Railroads! before but from what I've read online, the earlier entries in that series, Railroad Tycoon 2 and 3, got better reviews.

Is it actually possible to fix the "Steam servers are too busy" error?

It's be interesting to see how a 1st person viewpoint who doesn't talk would translate to film.
This is one hell of a typo.
I'd be more worried about a the difficulty of silent protagonist in a movie. I, for one, am very glad to know it's fake.
Awesome. Good to know I've never learned my lesson about waking up fully before posting.
Not very well

All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.
It fits because his movies never end, much like the Half Life series.

Wow, I loved that.
And my haste to see the next part got me rickrolled...

seemed cool but I want it on a console. controls messed with my head.

terrible, terrible acting but a decent sense for visual style despite obvious lack of budget.
It does have controller support.
